‘Modern Family’ Will Get an 11th and Final Season at ABC

Without question, Modern Family is one of those era defining sitcoms and, as such, its exit after this 11th season might signal the end of an era. What’s interesting is that if you think about the pilot of Modern Family all those years ago, it seems to be kind of like The Office set within a multi-generational family. In a few ways, it got to be a multi-cam and single camera comedy at the same time, a very rare feat to pull off.

Of course, it became its own beloved show and garnered critical and commercial success over several seasons, but we’d be curious to see what sort of lasting impression it will leave on the next generation of sitcoms that will have a similar run.

Maybe that next long-running show will end up being The Good Place and it’ll be a new era of extremely high concept comedy with heart. Unfortunately, only time will tell, but you will at least get one more season of Modern Family in the meantime.

ABC Renews Modern Family and black-ish, Orders The Mayor and The Gospel of Kevin to Series

Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

ABC is sticking with its bread and butter by giving Modern Family a 9th and 10th season and black-ish a 4th season.

With that main part of the comedy brand covered, ABC will now be taking on some more high-concept comedies with The Mayor and The Gospel of Kevin that both pit unlikely, selfish lead characters into having save the people around them. To peak your interest, The Gospel of Kevin has Jason Ritter starring and The Mayor has Daveed Diggs, who you probably know from Hamilton, on board as an executive producer.

Interestingly enough, this does seem like ABC likes to have a white and black version of certain TV comedy formulas.

Modern Family’s Danny Zuker Imagines What a Trump White House Correspondents Dinner Speech Might Be Like

Modern Family’s Danny Zuker Imagines What a Trump White House Correspondents Dinner Speech Might Be Like

Since Trump will not be attending this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner probably because he gets his ego and feelings hurt enough on a daily basis, Danny Zuker, writer and EP on Modern Family, has done us all a favor and whipped up a version of Trump’s speech might be like.

Here’s a fun excerpt:

“Melania couldn’t be here tonight because she’s already been in the same room with me this month and a deal’s a deal! I’m kidding. We’re very much in love. Thank you. It’s very physical and tender. (Hold for the audience to say “awwww” for five minutes.)”

When reading it, you might think it might be overdoing it, but then we’d urge you to revisit Trump’s “performance” at the Al Smith Dinner and see how potentially close to reality this piece could have been.

The Goldbergs (Season 4 Premiere) 8PM
Speechless (Series Premiere) 8:30PM
Modern Family (Season 8 Premiere) 9PM

Looks like ABC has their own version of NBC’s old comedy block Must See TV and it looks pretty formidable.

It looks especially more stout for all the positive reception that Speechless has been receiving.

A Bunch of Shows Got Renewed Today Including Fresh Off The Boat, Black-Ish, The Goldbergs, The Middle, Modern Family, and Teachers

ABC seems pretty happy with their comedy slate.

Save for The Muppets, Dr. Ken, Galavant, and Last Man Standing, ABC has announced the renewal of the rest entire comedy line-up today. That includes Modern Family for its 8th season, The Middle, also for its 8th season, Fresh Off the Boat for its 3rd season, Black-ish, also for its 3rd season, and The Goldbergs for its 4th season.

Considering how quick the ax is brought down on series at other networks these days, this is a pretty big milestone for the broadcast network.

Also, TV Land’s freshman series Teachers will live to see a sophomore season.

Maybe this is a sign of the tides of cancelling new comedy series is changing? We certainly hope so.

ABC Is Developing a Meta Family Sitcom from Modern Family’s Danny Zuker

October 14, 2015

abc, danny zuker, family show, meta, modern family, put pilot

(via Deadline)

It’s being touted as a Larry Sanders Show for family sitcoms, which is a welcome change of pace.

Veteran sitcom writer Danny Zuker not only works on Modern Family, one of the most critically and commercially successful comedies on TV right now, but is now developing his own sitcom that shows a TV family and the not-so-rosy underbelly of that same family in real life called Family Show.

While you get to see a bit of that on shows like BoJack Horseman, seeing a high concept like that at ABC, where Modern Family happens to also be, is very intriguing to see.

Luckily, it has a put pilot commitment and we’ll get to see what Zuker is cooking up.

As you’ll see, there are plenty of the reasons that each one of these shows with these folks at the helm are successful.

Some Versions of ‘Modern Family’ Around the World Have A Few Big Differences From The Original

Currently, Iran, Chile, and Greece have or are working on their own versions of ABC’s hit sitcom and perennial award winning series Modern Family.

In Iran and Chile however, same-sex marriage is not legal and thus, Cam and Mitchell are not adapted into the Iranian and Chilean versions of the show titled as “Haft Sang” and “Familia Moderna” respectively. Even more perturbing is the idea that producers for Haft Sang have not gotten rights to adapt Modern Family.
