Chris Gethard Presents Is Continuing Their Marathon Livestream on Twitch

In the ongoing quest of finding things to do during these weird times, might we suggest something that you haven’t look to yet because you’ve probably spent a lot of time binging on Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime etc. etc.

A few months back Chris Gethard returned to his public access TV roots to highlight his favorite comedians and also give them a platform to make a show the way they want with Chris Gethard Presents. They’ve already featured such wondrous talents from all around NYC as Sam Taggart & Max Wittert, Megan Stalter, Mary Houlihan, Monroe Martin, Christi Chiello.

You can watch clips over at their YouTube channel OR you could watch the full episodes as they were intended to be watched during an ongoing (even as we typed this out and posted this) marathon over at Twitch. They’ve got episodes streaming back-to-back throughout all hours of the days today and tomorrow (and maybe even more).

Chris Gethard Is Returning to Public Access TV for Chris Gethard Presents

If there’s one thing you can expect from Chris Gethard, it’s truly to expect the unexpected. From The Chris Gethard Show to Beautiful Anonymous and everything in between, Gethard’s career in and around comedy has been quite the amazing winding road that no one, except maybe for Chris, can see what’s up ahead.

So, another such move comes with Gethard returning to his public access TV roots at Manhattan Neighborhood Network, though not to revive TCGS. Gethard will be, instead, having a platform to showcase his favorite performers every week (in similar fashion to him handing the TCGS slot to The Special Without Brett Davis) simply called Chris Gethard Presents.

Chris can fill you in on the details here.

As we hinted at above, it’s both a surprising and a not-so-surprising move that is altogether still very intriguing given Chris’ track record for doing what’s daring. Certainly, public access allows for more of that than linear TV.

Chris Gethard Presents will premiere Wednesdays at MNN HD starting Jun. 26th at 11PM EST, which will be conveniently 8PM PST over in LA. You can stream it for FREE here.

Chris Gethard and company, as well as live callers, are underway with their election special marathon, back at their old public access home on MNN, that will run until 9PM PDT. It’s the start to plenty of much needed comedy coverage of the election that will happen today.

You can watch The Chris Gethard Election Day Special right here right now.

We’re pretty sure that any other comedy election day special isn’t going to be 12 hours long.

That being said, thank goodness that Chris Gethard, the TCGS crew, and comedians Conner O’Malley, Tim Dillon, Jo Firestone, Shannon O’Neill, Maeve Higgins, Langan Kingsley, Brett Davis, Connor Ratliff, Lorelei Ramirez, Ana Fabrega, Kenny DeForest, Jackie Jennings, Murf Meyer, JD Amato, Will Miles, and much more will be giving the lovely alternative to whatever nail-bite inducing coverage is happening elsewhere.

From noon to midnight EST on November 8th, The Manhattan Neighborhood Network Election Special will air at MNN and MNN.org.

Apparently, Brett Davis Just Got His Show “The Special” Stolen from Him

UPDATE: Brett Davis wrote a recent blog post in regards to this article in order to clear up any confusion:

As much as I would like to claim this situation as a stunt, unfortunately it is not. To be clear, the contract Jesse and I signed would NEVER be legally binding, but they knew that. I was screwed by Joe and Edmond, two producers of The Special who, unfortunately are the legal owners of the show/timeslot. MNN requires Manhattan residents to be the in-name producers. thus, even though The Special has my namesake, I was never the producer on file. EPs Chris Gethard and JD Amato were given an honorary Executive Producer title, but more to honor their work at MNN, but they have very little to do with the show itself.

I’m not too worried. The new Special already had a rough start. They passed the show on to Steve Whalen this week and the feed cut out. Next week and moving forward, the show will be in the hands of a noted drug user.

Thanks again for your sympathy in this situation, but I’m a Comedy Central “Comic To Watch” and i have an upcoming project with a big name attached, so I will be fine. I will be making a big announcement at The Macaulay Culkin Showthis Sunday night at Shea Stadium regarding my future in NYC, and I hope you can come see it live.

Whether it’s real or fake, this is probably one of the crazier things that has happened on a comedy series in the last several years.

Following the footsteps of The Chris Gethard Show at public access channel MNN is a tall order, but The Special without Brett Davis was doing pretty well in stepping up to the challenge over the last several months. Brett Davis (who, to be clear, did host the show as various characters who aren’t Brett Davis) tapped into the same experimental comedy vibe as Gethard, but did something entirely different.

However, this past week of The Special saw a bit within the universe of The Special break the fourth wall and take the show away from Davis. This particular episode put up a faux contest for a new host of another show, Cosmos, with one of the contestants being Jesse Camp, formerly of MTV fame. Camp won the contest and the contract he signed on camera was said to be legally binding and notarized and signed by Davis as well. Yet, the contract was not for the faux contest, but actually for the ownership of the whole Special show itself, which then transferred to Jesse Camp.

Though it makes the reality of all of this questionable, the contract had 100% REAL CONTRACT JESSE IS THE NEW HOST! printed in bold on it as well.

According to Brett in a blog post, this all happened without his prior knowledge and was probably a result of him traveling to Los Angeles and having very good meetings that would move his comedy career forward. Rather than take legal action, he has opted to just sever ties from the show. Already, Brett has changed his Twitter handle to @BrettDavisRip and has tweeted unfavorably about the show happening without him.

Somehow, this very much looks like some sort of storyline that would exist in the crazed fictitious world of professional wrestling. In fact, there are a few episodes of The Special that riff on pro wrestling tropes and take them to a much more darkly comedic place.

Unfortunately, as amended above, Brett has parted ways with the show.

Taking into account that Brett started the conceit of The Special by being “murdered” in the first episode, then consistently playing different characters every week that fill in for Brett, it’s easy to imagine how this could be all an elaborate way for Brett to possibly depart from the show or a complex “meta-hoax” that allows Brett and The Special to push the boundaries of their own boundary pushing show. It’s also worth noting that Brett is the latest winner of The Andy Kaufman Award and describing this all as Andy Kaufman-esque wouldn’t be off base at all.

We want to believe this is all an elaborate long-con sort of a bit, but, for now, it’s proceeding forward in a real way as there are already promos for The Special with Jesse Camp online. Don’t be surprised if Brett steals his show back in an equally crazy manner.

In any case, you can clearly see from all this madness that you should be following what Brett does very closely.

Classic bits from the MNN show will be played on Fusion next week.

While the premiere of the brand new Chris Gethard Show at Fusion isn’t until May, Fusion is going to start to air recut portions of episodes that put The Chris Gethard Show on the map in the first place.

Such things include Night of Zero Laughs and We Will Predict Your Future.

See what you potentially have been missing in one of the best public access shows of all time starting Thurs. Apr. 23rd at 8:30PM.

The Special Without Brett Davis Is Definitely Keeping The Great and Weird Streak Alive at MNN

The Special Without Brett Davis premiered a month ago at MNN in place of The Chris Gethard Show and, after a month, it looks like they’re keeping the bonkers spirit of that late night spot going, but, at the same time, making it all their own.

With the premise of Brett Davis “being” dead and having to have subsequent “different” hosts from vastly different walks of life, The Special Without Brett Davis has gotten to go really off the rails in a really great way.

How off the rails you ask? Well, just watch how wrestling champion Bobby Blayze deal with a terminally ill kid that’s not your typical terminally ill kid and what happens when a bass player in a band of bass players/cult followers gets interrupted during a cult ceremony that’s probably NSFW.

By the way, all the full episodes are on YouTube right here because you know you’ll want to watch them.

Welcome “The Special without Brett Davis”, The Replacement of “The Chris Gethard Show”

As Chris Gethard and The Chris Gethard Show are headed to actual cable TV thanks to the good folks over at Fusion, there was a vacant slot for late Wednesday nights at what’s now probably one of the most famous public access networks, MNN.

Not one to let the slot fade away, Gethard has handed the keys to Brett Davis and his “The Special without Brett Davis”. Just having watched the first episode with guests Jake Fogelnest and Joe Pera, we think you are all going to be happy with Davis and company as TCGS’ replacement. They definitely keep the funny and the bizarre of this time slot going and we can’t wait to see what they’re going to pull off in the months to come.

We’re not going to reveal anything else, so just go watch it already.

If you want to attend a taping (if you live anywhere in NYC, we highly recommend it), e-mail thespecialwithout@gmail.com.

The Chris Gethard Show Is Headed To Fusion

The mystery cable network that might have just won the comedy lottery for The Chris Gethard Show is Fusion.

Last year, Gethard announced that he and his show were going to a cable network, though he wouldn’t say which one.

Now, Fusion has brought him into their fold, which is getting more and more impressive comedy-wise. No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins, a docu-comedy special from Al Madrigal, and now, The Chris Gethard Show.

Gethard details more on the move from MNN to Fusion at Splitsider.

Chris Gethard to Continue Sandwich Night Annually at MNN

Though it would seem that the fate of The Chris Gethard Show hangs in the balance of being in development at Comedy Central, Chris Gethard has vowed that he will return to his roots at The Manhattan Neighborhood Network to host a Sandwich Night, a holiday celebration Gethard created himself.

Knowing this, Sandwich Night could become the Festivus for Thanksgiving.
