While in conversation with David Steinberg last night at the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, Larry David was hounded about the future of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

David already has his upcoming Broadway play Fish in the Dark on his plate and admitted that he isn’t quite sure where he’d take the series, but he’s not closing the door on Curb yet. To Steinberg and the crowd, David commented, “I haven’t given up the hope.”

Though it’s sort of off-brand for HBO, if Curb Your Enthusiasm intended on returning for another season, a crossover episode with The Comeback might be a good starting point.

With the premiere of his HBO stand up special Love at the Store just around the corner, Jerrod Carmichael wanted to make sure people watch it give something back.

So, he sponsored a PeeWee football team, which is a great thing for a community. He even went as far as buying them jerseys that just so happen to “coincidentally” tie into his special.

Watch Jerrod’s marketing savvy altruism at work plus a great Steve Rannazzisi cameo and be sure to watch Love at the Store Oct. 4th at 10PM on HBO.

HBO has set the return for The Comeback with Lisa Kudrow for November, which isn’t too far away, if you think about it.

Well, if there’s more teasers like this one, perhaps it will be less than hundreds of hours until the brand new season premiere of The Comeback.

Jemaine Clement Clears Up All Confusion on The HBO Show He’s Writing with Taika Waititi

(via Vulture)

In a recent chat with Vulture, Jemaine Clement, after the Internet (us included) thought it might be the return of Flight of the Conchords, finally lays out what exactly he’s working on for HBO.

He and Taika Waititi, who are having a nice run with their movie What We Do In The Shadows are writing an anthology series where each episode will be completely different from each other except for the players that will be cast.

The 4 episodes that were ordered only have a script commitment and have a chance that they won’t be made.

So, now that you know that, cross your fingers that all of this comes to fruition.

Rob Brydon and Michelle Gomez Join HBO’s Dark Geopolitical Crisis Comedy “The Brink”

The Brink starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins has just added Rob Brydon who we hope you have seen on The Trip or The Trip to Italy and Michelle Gomez who we’re sure you’ve seen on Doctor Who to the cast for a few episodes.

While there are plenty of parallels in the premises of both, there’s no trailer, teaser, premiere date, or any other such thing to clue us in as to how much The Brink might or might not be like the most famous dark satirical geopolitical comedy, Dr. Strangelove. The addition of Brydon and Gomez as a couple, while certainly a welcome one, only make us more intensely curious as to what The Brink will end up ultimately being.

Flight of the Conchords’ Bret and Jemaine might be back at it again and you might be able, in the same turn, stop holding your breath.

According to a recent interview with Jemaine Clement, HBO has commissioned four episodes of a new comedy from Jemaine. It’s unclear if it’s going to stem from the world of the series of Flight of the Conchords or if it’s going to be something different, hopefully still with delightfully funny tunes and jams.

Whatever it ends up being, we’re glad that Clement is up to something that we’ll be able to readily watch in the States and we hope it makes to HBO soon.

Even though there has been plenty written on how great/hilarious/informative/effective/etc. Last Week Tonight has been, YouTube is of course a den where haters and trolls of all shapes and sizes of usernames can make themselves heard in a capacity of some kind which include digs on John Oliver and his show.

Watch it here and note the transparency that Oliver observes on his satirical news show versus real news.

Outside of a digging deep into an issue that’s far too overlooked or explaining a controversial, divisive one, Oliver had the week off on Last Week Tonight and decided, in his absence, to leave us a video where he takes on a piñata.

Verbally and physically, piñatas, or at least the one he takes to with a colorful blunt force object, may never be the same.

Network development slates seem to be getting on a musical comedy train. Just this week HBO and Fox have bought musical comedies from Peter Knight/Jason Winer and Bruce Eric Kaplan respectively.

Knight and Winer’s project will be a contemporary family comedy with original songs and Kaplan’s will follow three generations of women here in LA. Both have potential to be great, especially since many of miss the days of Flight of the Conchords.

Let’s hope these projects will make for an intriguing pilot season.

Jerrod Carmichael’s First Hour Special ‘Love at The Store’ Premieres in Oct. on HBO

On Oct. 4th at 10PM, HBO will not only be airing the first special from the hysterical Jerrod Carmichael, but they will be actually airing the very first stand-up performance from Jerrod on TV ever.

It’s amazing that Jerrod will be make his televised stand-up debut on an HBO special presented by Funny or Die and there’s a very good reason for that. What we saw at the taping is what we’ve seen here in LA for years with Carmichael having such an ease and command of the stage at the same time, delivering his hard hitting jokes a relaxed subtlety.

Here’s a promo for the special titled Love at The Store, taped live at The Comedy Store, directed by Spike Lee.

As your various social media feeds have been most likely filled with some sort of pictures or articles about what looks like a war zone in Ferguson, MO over the killing of the unarmed Michael Brown, one would hope that such a biting, satirical comedy news program as Last Week with John Oliver would cover this story to hopefully ease some of the confusion and bring levity, of any degree, to the matter.

Well, last night, Oliver did just that in his main segment. Watch it here.

So, Netflix Surpassed HBO This Past Quarter in Subscriber Revenue

The online streaming giant Netflix has been making a lot of waves over the last couple of years with their entrance into producing their own content. In fact, after resurrecting Arrested Development, Orange Is The New Black, and more, Netflix has just, in this past quarter, surpassed HBO in subscriber revenue.

While that doesn’t exactly mean that Netflix has grown bigger than HBO, which has more of an established brand, more original content, and, overall, more accolades and money coming in, it certainly does mean that Netflix (and online streaming in general) is absolutely headed in that direction.

Maybe, a stand alone HBO GO will be up for subscription in the not so distant future and we can all watch Silicon Valley, Veep, and Girls without using our friends and loved ones’ passwords.

The geckos that Russia sent into space to observe while mating, then lost contact with have been found. John Oliver issued a call to arms for the whole world to urge Russia to #GoGetThoseGeckos on Last Week Tonight and now those geckos have apparently been found.

#WeGotThoseGeckos is now official as you can hear from Oliver himself, even though how responsible the hashtag was for their recovery is up for debate.

On top of Gillian Jacobs and Natasha Lyonne already guest starring on season 4 of HBO’s Girls, the guest star list has just added director and occasional actor Spike Jonze.

There aren’t much details as to Jonze’s character, but we’d only hope and cross our fingers that there’s some sort of joke/reference about Her in there.

Russia’s been up to a lot lately, but, for the lack of its homophobia or relevance to Ukraine, you might have overlooked Russia losing contact with a space vessel that was housing mating geckos for observation.

That’s why John Oliver on Last Week Tonight (as well as a plenty of celebrities like Julia Louis Dreyfus and Patrick Stewart) says that the least humanity can do is to tell Russia to “Go get those geckos!”

HBO is pushing forward with their comedy branding by doing a sports mockumentary, specifically of the legendary tennis tournament known as Wimbledon. Andy Samberg and Kit Harrington will star as rival tennis players and Fred Armisen, Lena Dunham, Karen Gillan, Michael, Sheen, and more have also been cast.

This is being billed as an one-off comedy event at HBO, perhaps similar to those Greatest Events in Television History at Adult Swim.

John Oliver Apparently Making Thai Government Feel Uneasy

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has been blazing quite a trail ever since its premiere on HBO, not pulling any punches with any of its segments or jokes. As a result, POM Wonderful, a marketing company responsible for an ad for Oregon’s healthcare website, the FCC’s Tom Wheeler, and more have actually and very publicly responded to Oliver’s jabs at them.

The latest in this group reportedly happens to be the Thai government that doesn’t at all appreciate John Oliver’s jabs at Thailand’s Crown Prince. Vice reports that the junta that’s currently in power is “paranoid” about a segment that lambasted the Crown Prince.

Do note that there are laws in place in Thailand where you could go to jail for any such mockery of the royal family.
