Hope you’re ready for an encore, because #SDRR is coming back for Season 2! pic.twitter.com/g7MRGWPuUP

Announced today, FX has renewed Denis Leary’s rock comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll for a second season.

Looks like Denis will get to his flowing rocker locks for another year.

Here’s Your First Look at FX’s “Baskets” from Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K.

Jan. 2016 will see the premiere of Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K.’s highly anticipated Baskets, a FX series that follows someone desperately trying to become a world class clown, but is really struggling to get there.

Here’s a brief glimpse of Baskets and what it’s like for aspiring clowns that perhaps might be not attaining their goals of supreme clowning.

Consider he has two other shows he’s producing, continuing to do stand-up, and probably more projects that are unannounced, it’s surprising that he doesn’t take breaks from his shows more often.

Announced at FX’s day at the TCA press tour, Louis C.K. will be taking more time off from his award winning series Louie.

As to if and when a sixth season will happen, there are no details. However, C.K. will have plenty of other stuff coming out to make up for it.

FX Orders “Better Things” From Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. to Series

This is the third series that C.K. will have going on the network.

While not an actual spin-off, Better Things will follow Pamela Adlon as someone not named Pamela in the same sort of way that Louie follows C.K. though Adlon’s occupation will be acting.

With Louie, the upcoming Baskets starring Zach Galifianakis, and now Better Things, FX could have almost have Adult-Swim-like-programming block for CK produced shows.

It won’t be much longer before potentially your favorite functionally dysfunctional couple, Jimmy and Gretchen, return to FXx for the second season of You’re The Worst.

Just see what sort of trail of havoc they’re going to wreak in this season 2 trailer, then look for the premiere on Sept. 9th on FXx.

“China, IL”, “The Comedians”, and “HAPPYish” All Got the Ax This Week

We’re pretty sure this isn’t how the rule of three in comedy is supposed to go.

Adult Swim, FX, and Showtime all cancelled comedies on their networks this week. As the next pilot season is rolling around, this is the first wave of cancellations. We can only hope won’t be as bloody as the last round of cancellations where many freshman shows got axed.

China, IL made it to third season at Adult Swim, but The Comedians, and HAPPYish only made it to the end of their first season at FX and Showtime, respectively.

Perhaps, it won’t be before too long before we see what’s next for Brad Neely, Billy Crystal, Josh Gad, and Steve Coogan.

FX Has “Married” Return and “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” Premiere Tonight

10PM Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll series premiere
10:30PM Married season 2 premiere

A new hour comedy block is back at FX with a new Denis Leary series, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll where rather than the firetruck and fire house that he used to man on Rescue Me, he now takes the stage as a band’s embattled front man donned in leather and big hair.

Following that series premiere, Married, one of FX’s three comedies that chronicle different stages of life/relationships (the other ones being You’re The Worst and Louie) returns for its second season.

Like we said above, catch both tonight.

FX’s latest comedy series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is just around the corner following a dysfunctional band getting back together at the wishes of the lead singer’s daughter.

Leading up to the premiere, they’ve put together a faux documentary telling the story of their band, The Heathens and why rock stardom just escaped their grasp because of Denis Leary’s character, Johnny Rock.

Watch parts one, two, three, and four, then check out the premiere on July 16th at 10PM on FX.

While having appeared online through various means already, Gethard and C.K. will have their latest work broadcast to millions that have the Internet, but would rather watch something on their cable package.

So, tonight catch The Chris Gethard Show on Fusion at 10PM, then Louis C.K.’s latest stand-up special Live From The Comedy Store on FX at 11PM.

FX Orders Animated Post Apocalyptic Western Comedy Pilot “Cassius & Clay”

As far as we can tell, it sounds like Westworld meets Thelma and Louise meets Blazing Saddles or future Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid as an animated comedy.

Lake Bell and Kaitlin Olson will voice a badass bandit duo that goes back and forth between staying in and out of trouble, but ultimately getting into trouble anyway in a world that’s both post apocalyptic America and popularizes saloons again. Other characters will be voiced by the likes of Jeffrey Tambor and Susan Sarandon (AKA Louise).

Megan Ganz and Adam Reed from Community/Modern Family and Archer respectively, wrote the pilot that we’re curious if it’ll explain the reference to Muhummad Ali’s original name.

Still, this sounds intriguing on so many levels that we hope it gets picked up just so we can see what it would look like.

FX Has Ordered Comedy Pilot Starring Jenny Slate and Ari Graynor From Obvious Child’s Gillian Robespierre and Elisabeth Holm

Obvious Child’s Jenny Slate, director Gillian Robespierre, and writer Elisabeth Holm are reuniting once again.

Ari Graynor and Jenny Slate are set to co-star in FX’s newest comedy pilot, co-created by Robespierre and Holm, that follows them on a road trip across the country. If you’ve seen Obvious Child, you know that there’s probably way more bubbling under the surface than just that broad premise and we’re excited to potentially see what that is.

“Louie” Can’t Find a Place to Poop

April 17, 2015
Uncategorized
fx, louie, louis c.k.

Here’s a pretty good example of how a stand-up bit can inspire, rather than be transposed into a sitcom scene.

Louis C.K. has had a bit or two about getting older and having to poop and on last night’s episode of Louie there was a whole scene delving right into that topic.

Unlike many comedian based sitcoms that often take stand-up bits and put it right into a scene almost word-for-word, this need to poop while escorting his daughters around gets embellished with more details and nuance as a scene.

The result, as you might expect with Louie, is pretty great.

You got a preview of his flowing mane on The Daily Show over a year ago and now you get to see it action.

Denis Leary is an aging rocker in his new series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, but still very much in the wheelhouse of the Denis Leary we’ve come to know through stand-up, Rescue Me, and otherwise.

You can get your first look of the show in these two clips to show you what we’re talking about.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll doesn’t premiere until Thurs. July 16th on FX, so we’re sure a full length trailer is on the way soon.

The series premiere of The Comedians starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad airs tonight at 10PM and the fifth season of Louie premieres right after at 10:30PM.

So, The Comedians will be leading in Louie, which is only slightly intriguing since, but most of you, we’re guessing will be probably watching both later.

Louis C.K.: Live From The Comedy Store premieres May 28th and “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” and season 2 of “Married” premiere July 16th.

FX gets the first TV dibs on Louis C.K.’s latest special “Live at The Comedy Store” that will make its TV debut almost two months after the season 5 premiere of Louie.

Following that, Denis Leary’s new comedy and hair in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and the second season of Married will round out FX’s comedy schedule for a while.

Between this, Netflix’s upcoming comedy, Veep and Silicon Valley returning, etc., the only time you might have freed up is those few months between Letterman leaving The Late Show and Colbert taking over.

After that, feel free to sing Brother Louie out in public until premiere night.

Looks Like Jenny Slate Might Be Starring in Her Own Comedy Pilot at FX

It seems to be the word on the pilot season street is that Jenny Slate will be scaling back her role on FX’s Married for a FX comedy pilot starring her and being written by Gillian Robespierre and Elisabeth Holm. All three last worked together on the indie romantic comedy hit Obvious Child.

As TBS and TruTV have stepped up their game in their recent development slates, respectively, with Samantha Bee’s satirical news show and Those Who Can’t, we certainly hope that this pilot becomes official soon.

Here’s The First Teaser Trailer of “The Comedians” with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal

In FX’s upcoming “The Comedians” Billy Crystal and Josh Gad are set to clash generationally as comedians on a sketch show. That might seem a little reminiscent of the premises of Mulaney or even Studio 60, but The Comedians seems to be going for a more, FX single-cam grounded comedy vibe (i.e. Louie, Married, etc).

See for yourself in the first teaser trailer that was posted today.

The Comedians premieres on FX on Apr. 9th.

“Archer” Reruns Coming to Comedy Central

Of all the ways that you can currently watch Archer on FX and stream it online, you’re going to get a new way to catch the hit animated espionage comedy series.

Starting some time in May, reruns of Archer will air on Comedy Central.

So, if you don’t like changing the channel because you’re really obsessed with Comedy Central’s programming slate including Broad City, This Is Not Happening, new hour long stand-up specials, etc., then you’re in luck and will get to watch Archer soon.

FX Will Premiere “The Comedians” and Season 5 of “Louie” on Apr. 9th

This spring, FX will see a whole hour block of series focused on the lives of comedians.

The series premiere of The Comedians with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal playing two comedians bridging generational gaps in comedy and the premiere of the fifth season of Louie will kick off Apr. 9th at 10PM.

Note that, Louie will only have 8 episodes for this latest season, which seems like the season order of a freshman show. However, The Comedians will have Mel Brooks, Jimmy Kimmel, and Rob Reiner as guest stars in their first season (via Variety).

This still makes us curious how comedies are split between FX and FXx.

FX Getting a Louis C.K. Special and a Pamela Adlon Pilot

With FX’s very successful partnership with Louis C.K., it only makes sense that they’re continuing to double down on projects with him.

Already, they’ve ordered “Baskets” to series that has Zach Galifianakis going to pursue his dreams of being a clown.

Now, they’re going to get to show his latest stand-up special and have him also direct a comedy pilot starring Pamela Adlon. The pilot “Better Things” sounds like it will pair quite well with Louie since it follows a single mother/actress dealing with three daughters and, maybe, sex and also has Adlon who plays one of the few actually recurring characters on Louie.

We will be looking forward to all of this.

After a solid month of hibernating with streaming shows online, your favorite shows are starting to come back live on air straight to your TV, assuming you still have one.

Tonight, Archer and Portlandia return for their sixth and fifth seasons at FX and IFC, respectively, at 10PM. This should make for a fun night spanning the weirdness of Portland and the weirdness of outlandish espionage.

Make sure to catch/DVR/watch online at a later date.

That Rap Comedy Project from Donald Glover Finally Got a Pilot Order at FX

(via Deadline)

A couple of TV seasons ago, it was announced that Donald Glover was developing a music industry centric comedy series at FX.

Nothing was heard about the project for awhile, but, luckily, FX has ordered a pilot of Glover’s “Atlanta” this week. It’ll focus on the rap scene in Atlanta, GA and the crazed life that goes with it.

If this goes to series, it’ll be fun to compare Atlanta and Empire on Fox.
