The BBC Is Throwing Its Very First BBC Comedy Festival

The British Broadcasting Corporation has long since been a home for UK TV comedy as evidenced by the original version of The Office from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant debuting on BBC Two seemingly eons ago.

To continue in their comedy lineage and tradition and looking forward to their future, they’re throwing their very first BBC Comedy Festival in Newcastle next month from Wed. 11th May to Fri. 13th May. BBC’s Director of Comedy, Jon Petrie punctuated the announcement, “We are excited to be coming to Newcastle, the BBC’s first City of Comedy, to celebrate comedy in all its forms and to outline BBC Comedy’s vision for the genre in 2022 and beyond. We are committed to nurturing, developing and collaborating with comedy enthusiasts across the UK, to ensure comedy remains a staple part of our British culture.

With a focus on panel discussions and “in conversations”, this does seem to be geared for people in comedy, but rest assured there will actually be brilliant live comedy to be thoroughly enjoyed by those in attendance. Lined-up on the schedule include appearances from Charlie Brooker, Greg Davies, Jamie Demetriou, Megan Ganz, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Romesh Ranganathan, Stephen Merchant, Tim Renkow, Kat Sadler, Adjani Salmon, and Holly Walsh – plus the casts of BBC hits – Ghosts and The Outlaws.

If you’re in and around the UK a month from now, you’ll probably want to get in on this. We’ll keep you posted on passes/tickets.

Mythic Quest Season 2 Gets Its First Full Trailer

Mythic Quest is one of a growing number of series that is legitimizing Apple TV+’s place as a streaming service in the streaming wars. Taking the energy and verve of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and putting it into a video game studio has been a more than refreshing departure from the litany of fish-out-of-water sitcoms that get marched out and subsequently cancelled every TV season.

Even taking on a “very special episode”/dramedy tone for their quarantine episode, creators Rob McElhenney and Megan Ganz have conjured up a lovable cadre of very flawed misfits (some are lovable in spite of their shortcomings) in Mythic Quest that we’re genuine want to follow into whatever chaos they rustle up.

Thankfully, season 2 is just around the corner (May 7th on Apple TV+) and you can get your first full taste of what’s to come here.

FXx Orders Animated Post Apocalyptic Buddy Comedy “Cassius and Clay” Starring Kaitlin Olson, Lake Bell, and Susan Sarandon To Series

It’s being pitched as a female-led post-apocalyptic buddy comedy a la Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, which also makes us think of the sort of show that would have happened had Thelma and Louise survived.

FXx’s latest comedy will be the animated Cassius and Clay from Archer’s Adam Reed and Megan Ganz whose written for both Community and Modern Family with a great cast in Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Lake Bell from Childrens Hospital, and Susan Sarandon. The three of them would be a cool bunch in a number of different scenario, but a post-apocalyptic setting should be especially fun to watch. Also, they have a guest cast that includes none other than Jeffrey Tambor and Stephen Root.

It’s set to debut sometime next year on FXx and we have yet to figure if there will be any sort of connection or reference to Muhammad Ali’s former name.

FX Orders Animated Post Apocalyptic Western Comedy Pilot “Cassius & Clay”

As far as we can tell, it sounds like Westworld meets Thelma and Louise meets Blazing Saddles or future Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid as an animated comedy.

Lake Bell and Kaitlin Olson will voice a badass bandit duo that goes back and forth between staying in and out of trouble, but ultimately getting into trouble anyway in a world that’s both post apocalyptic America and popularizes saloons again. Other characters will be voiced by the likes of Jeffrey Tambor and Susan Sarandon (AKA Louise).

Megan Ganz and Adam Reed from Community/Modern Family and Archer respectively, wrote the pilot that we’re curious if it’ll explain the reference to Muhummad Ali’s original name.

Still, this sounds intriguing on so many levels that we hope it gets picked up just so we can see what it would look like.
