Veronica Osorio and Yassir Lester Cast in Fox Comedy Pilots

March 19, 2016

(via Deadline)

Two particular favorites of ours are starting to get their due.

The workplace comedy set in a NJ plastics molding plant starring Judy Greer will have Veronica Osorio, who has been a delight in numerous sketches over the years as well as a role in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, as a series regular playing a former assistant to Greer’s Jane, who is the head of HR.

The Phil Lord and Chris Miller time travel comedy pilot will feature Yassir Lester, who we’ve enjoyed as a stand-up and one of the funniest people on Twitter even before The Comedy Bureau started (on top of now writing for The Carmichael Show and Girls). He’ll get to play opposite star Adam Pally as an ideal professor whose world becomes less ideal when time travel is factored in.

High concepts and great casts including some of fantastic people that we’ve been following for awhile make us hope dearly that both shows go to series.

Patton Oswalt to Star in Comedy Pilot from Laura Steinel Opposite Judy Greer

This is dream casting as far as we’re concerned.

In this comedy pilot from Laura Steinel, Judy Greer will play the head of HR at a New Jersey based plastics molding plant (presumably something along the lines of what you might have seen in the movie Joy, but more above board) and have to deal with an idealistic new company head in Patton Oswalt.

This may sound a bit like The Office or Parks and Recreation, but set in a plastics. We’re totally fine with that, especially because Oswalt and Greer are starring.

Fox will finally be joining the ranks of late night once again, this Saturday, March 12th, with a brand new sketch show, Party Over Here.

Alison Rich, Nicole Byer, and Jessica McKenna along with the guidance of The Lonely Island and Paul Scheer are going to bring what seems to be a more fast paced, fourth wall-breaking version of sketch to television.

Get your first look at what they all have up their sleeve here.

…Lauren McGuire, Yamara Taylor, Carl Tart, and Rachel Lee Goldenberg are the additional writers/directors/cast of Party Over Here on top of The Lonely Island, Paul Scheer, and Nicole Byer/Alison Rich/Jessica McKenna.

That’s some of UCB and Funny or Die’s best that make this new late night sketch series at Fox even more enticing.

(via Deadline)

Though it’s going to air on Saturdays, it’s not going against SNL.

Party Over Here, which is also the name of The Lonely Island’s production company, will be the new late night sketch show that will run on Fox’s schedule. For years, Fox didn’t have any late night programming to really speak of and let their last sketch series, Mad TV, live in the shadow of what all its cast did after the show ended (i.e. Key & Peele).

This time around, Fox has plenty of comedy fan buzzworthy talent in the ranks of Party Over Here. Not only are The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer) executive producing the series, but Paul Scheer is directing and the aforementioned Nicole Byer, Jessica McKenna, and Alison Rich, who have all gained comedic notoriety on their own over the last few years, are headlining the cast.

The series is set for a Sat. Mar. 12th premiere at 11PM and will very notably not air against Saturday Night Live. Party Over Here will only be a half hour and also not broadcast live.

All of those moves are probably for the best.

It’s going to be called “TV’s Funniest Animated Stars: A Paley Center for Media Special”

Mickey Mouse to SpongeBob SquarePants to The Simpsons and several other legendary cartoon characters will be the focus of a Fox TV special put together by The Paley Center for Media. The likes of H. Jon Benjamin, Nancy Cartwright, Mike Judge, Seth Green, Pamela Adlon, Tom Kenny, Yeardley Smith, and more will chat about their various animated characters that they’ve helped put on the map.

Hopefully, they’ll do some sort of bit with some of the characters like Human Giant did all those years ago with t-shirt cannons.

Fox Is Developing Comedies From Ed Helms and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg

(via The Hollywood Reporter/Deadline)

It would seem nowadays that broadcast networks need their shows to have star power producing pilots and scripts even before they consider picking it up to series.

Thus, Fox is really stacking their comedy development slate with high profile, high concept projects this season. Just this week, they’ve added Weird Like Us from Ed Helms and Max Werner and Citizen Floyd from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on to their docket.

Weird Like Us will follow the family dynamics of parents that go against the grain of society that end up raising kids that decide to join that very grain. Citizen Floyd has much fewer details as it’s only noted to be a workplace comedy with suspense and some political elements.

As far as Fox’s live action comedies go, we can see how these two series would pair nicely with Last Man on Earth.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Are Developing a Time Travel Comedy at Fox

Anyone getting the feeling that any sort of announcement that is time travel themed was being held up for Back To The Future Day?

Now that Phil Lord and Chris Miller have got being the Last Man on Earth covered, Lord and Miller are on to potentially make the next great time travel comedy, which has kind of intrigued Hollywood both on the big and small screen since Back To The Future, over at Fox. For reference watch Midnight in Paris, Safety Not Guaranteed, possibly even Lord and Miller’s own Clone High.

Family Guy’s Julius Sharpe has written this project, In Time, which centers on the time travel adventures of friends trying to alter their present to their benefit.

There’s a put pilot commitment right now, but we hope this turns into a series order really soon.

Fox Developing Undercover Cop Comedy from Key & Peele Starring King Bach

It would seem that the worlds of sketch comedy and Vine meet at a single camera sitcom at Fox.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele undoubtedly had a lot of things come across their desk as well as their own projects after finishing up with Key & Peele. It turns out it didn’t take them long at all to move on to their next project as they are now producing a new project at Fox with one of the writers from their show, Alex Rubens.

Vine megastar King Bach (AKA Andrew Bachelor) is set to star as an undercover cop that will tap into the King Bach persona that’s gotten Bachelor over 14 million followers.

We’ll be curious to see what comes of all of this as well as if Jordan and Keegan will be in front of the camera in some capacity.

Jack Black Is Back Developing a Comedy Following a Struggling Musician with Dwight Yoakam at Fox

In case you don’t remember, Tenacious D was once a great series about a struggling rock duo.

Jack Black seems to be at his best when comedy and music are intertwined in whatever he’s working on like Tenacious D or Festival Supreme.

That’s why we’re glad to hear his latest project is a single camera comedy at Fox that he’s working on with Dwight Yoakam, an accomplished country musician who had a pretty great turn as a doctor in Crank.

Written by Alex McAulay and called Belles and Whistles, it’ll follow a dad moving to Nashville to be a country star.

We’re definitely excited about the possibilities here as something that’s plenty of parts Tenacious D the series with a tad of Nashville could be what’s happening here.

That’s right, Bob’s Burgers is getting a seventh and eighth season over at Fox and continues the veritable animation empire that Fox has been having for well over a score of years now with The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.

Now we’re curious if this means there could be more burgers for another Bob’s Burgers cookbook.

Fox and ABC Both Have Sitcoms About the Lives of Rappers Heems and Nicki Minaj in Development

Both were announced this week and would make for an intriguing rivalry if they both went to series.

Fox is developing a series based on the life of Heems, formerly of rap group Das Racist, and how he lives with his folks in Queens, NY that’s cleverly titled Eat Pray Thug. Similarly, ABC is committed to making a pilot for a series based on the life of rap superstar Nicki Minaj and how she came to this country from Trinidad and Tobago.

Given the success of Empire, seeing the life behind the music, especially when it comes to rap and hip hop, is really in right now. Don’t be shocked to see more sitcoms set in this world coming up this pilot season.

Peter from The Mindy Project and Toby from The Office are working on a spy comedy.

Fox’s latest addition to their comedy development slate will be a spy comedy from Adam Pally and Paul Lieberstein, written by Paul and Jon Gabrus. There aren’t much details as of right now, but the possibility of Gabrus starring makes us think of something along the lines of Paul Feig’s Spy.

Fox Makes Put Pilot Commitment for Horror Dramedy Set in Furniture Store Adapted from Grady Hendrix’s “Horrorstör”

If anything, we’re glad to see that Fox is still riding high on high concept comedy after Last Man on Earth.

Grady Hendrix’s novel which centers on a large scale Ikea-esque furniture store that’s haunted is being adapted into a series with the likes of Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Chuck), Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich), and more involved.

Fox has ordered a put pilot meaning we should be able to see something of how this amalgam of genres in an atypical setting is realized. Hopefully, that’ll happen sooner rather than later.

Jason Sudeikis, Cheryl Hines, Tim Meadows, and More Join Johnny Pemberton for “Son of Zorn”

The live action/animated hybrid series from Chris Miller and Phil Lord has quite the cast.

It was already exciting hearing about Miller and Lord developing their next high concept comedy at Fox involving an animated “fantasy warrior” dad dealing with home life, especially his son played by Pemberton.

Now, it’s even more exciting to hear that Jason Sudeikis, Cheryl Hines, Tim Meadows, and Artemis Pedbani have all attached themselves to the project, Son of Zorn.

At this point, we can only hope this gets picked up to series just so we can see what Miller and Lord have cooked up that we’re guessing is somewhere between Clone High and Last Man on Earth.

Alec Sulkin and Julius Sharpe’s Workplace Mystery Comedy “Where Are They Now?” Sold to Fox

Uncategorized

Sulkin and Sharpe might be on to something here.

Though the title conjures up images of all those forgotten celebrity series, Where Are They Now? will focus on the disappearance of the employees of an Internet company and the subsequent investigation. Normally, that would be the plot of one of the many hour long procedurals on TV, but this is, interestingly enough, going to be a half-hour comedy.

Alec Sulkin and Julius Sharpe have a commitment for a single camera put pilot at Fox and let’s hope it makes it to the point in the development process where we can see what they got cooking.

Due To Unlicensed “Simpsons” Duff Beer Being Produced, Fox Decides to License and Make Duff Beer a Real Thing

Life imitated art so well that it ceased to an imitation.

Apparently, folks in Chile were bootlegging their own Duff Beer as depicted as the beer of choice in The Simpsons.

Wanting to make the best of the opportunity, Fox has decided to license the beer that was being brewed, rather than shut it down, effectively making it official Duff Beer, and plan to distribute it throughout South America and Europe sometime next year.

Fully expect to see people trying to not claim Duff Beer when coming back from trips overseas in 2016.

Harry Shearer Will Now Be Returning to “The Simpsons”

So, you can stop you’re speculating who does the best Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders voices.

After several weeks of what we can only imagine was a bunch of negotiating, Harry Shearer has signed the deal that will bring him back to The Simpsons cast for two more seasons and the option for two more seasons after that, just like the rest of the cast.

So, potentially, The Simpsons could stay in tact as is for 30 seasons.

Now, we’ll be curious to see if this makes it into the show through some clever, self-referential joke with one of the many characters that Shearer voices.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord Are Developing Animated/Live Action Hybrid Series Starring Johnny Pemberton

June 17, 2015
Uncategorized
chris miller, fox, johnny pemberton, phil lord, pilot presentation, son of zahn

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Yep. We’re on board for all of this.

Hollywood golden boys Chris Miller and Phil Lord are onto the next step of their fast growing comedy legacy (Jump Street, LEGO Movie, Last Man on Earth, and more) with a pilot presentation of Son of Zahn at Fox.

The animated will be juxtaposed with the live action in a story where an animated Barbarian father has to deal with coming home to the suburban life where a very real and hilarious Johnny Pemberton will play the son. We’re thinking that it’s probably somewhere along the lines of a much more clever, sharper, and heightened version of Thor not having his powers on earth in the first Thor movie.

Either way, we hope it gets past all the pilot stages just so we can see what Lord and Miller have got cooking.
