Please Enjoy Short “Zigman vs. The Spacecraft” Where Being a Super Hero All the Time is Kind of Tiresome

April 12, 2021
News
brain dead, demorge brown, jonny look, randy liedtke, reebok, short film

No matter what type of super hero one may be, the reality of having to be super all the time is taxing, maybe even impossible?

That is more than clear in Jonny Look‘s latest short film, made specifically for the launch of Brain Dead x Reebok’s latest sneaker, that follows Zigman (DeMorge Brown) and his companion (voiced by Randy Liedtke) who will not take even a little bit of a break from being on the job of saving the world, no matter what the “crisis” may be. The balance between nostalgic otherworldly-ness (going back to 90s style Power Rangers) and the grounded minutia of everyday life is that off-beat sort of wonderful you get from Jonny Look.

Give it a watch and enjoy Zigman vs. The Spacecraft here.

Not only is this a marvelous short from  The Dress Up Gang (NOTE: TBS continues to keep their show on their shelf even though this is an even better time to put their entire brilliant series out on some sort platform) starring DeMorge Brown that is so playfully strange and offbeat, but it has absolutely nothing to do with COVID-19.

Enjoy 5 minutes and then some of DeMorge being an absolute joy and The Dress Up Gang nailing the weird minutia of daily life with A Day with DeMorge here.

There is an entire brilliantly funny season of a Dress Up Gang TV series that has yet to be seen and one can only hope that one day the general public will get to revel in how it’s potentially even more “about nothing” than Seinfeld.

In the meantime, you can and very, very much should enjoy the chill, offbeat, silly vibes of The Dress Up Gang’s delightful Christmas Special “Post Holiday Blues: A Christmas Special” here.

DeMorge Brown is a treasure in case you didn’t know (just see this Fruit Bats music video that made our top 100 list last year). The way he inhabits any character he plays is pretty revelatory and always funny in the best, most unexpected ways possible.

Such is the case, yet again, with this latest piece where he takes the stage as a celebrated, yet enraged poet Ephraim Elizabeth King.

So, without further adieu, please watch and delight in this performance here.

In anticipation of a new song from folk rockers The Fruit Bats, a “documentary” short film that takes a behind-the-scenes look into the making of their single “Getting in a Van Again” was made by slick director Jonny Look.

You might take notice that the “Emotional Engineer” and manager are played by TCB faves DeMorge Brown and Elisha Yaffe.

Truthfully, even if you didn’t know you needed another fantastic rock mockumentary in your life, we think that Getting In a Van Again is something that you’ve been waiting for.

Please, please, please enjoy it without any further explanation that might ruin any of the magic that lies ahead here.

Also, if you’re digging the music, go get into the Fruit Bats here.

It’s often said of Miles Davis that he changed jazz many times. Along with his trailblazing artistry, Davis was often just as challenging off stage as he was on stage.

A particular interview dreamed up and starring found by DeMorge Brown from a Swiss jazz program known as “Der Plattenteller Mit Jürgen Zeit” shows how much of an iconoclast Miles Davis could be.

Watch the very far out interview here.

Based on a great personal essay by Matt Dwyer, DeMorge Brown and Jennifer Ruiz made this wonderful short film adaptation of “Life.”

It lays out how Matt and likely a lot of other folks would deal with life if it were embodied in a single person that you’d run into at a bar.

Watch it and hopefully feel slightly better about life, both the person and concept.

Watch and understand who wants Trump’s version of making America great again.

Esteemed film critic Elvis Mitchell has made a name for himself for years through his insights on cinema at NPR and KCRW. With that, his voice, look, and persona capture a certain spirit of dry, high brow film theory discussions.

For Channel 101, DeMorge Brown sent up Elvis Mitchell in a faux interview series called ScreenShots with Elvis Mitchell that is, well, what it’d be like you were watching an Elvis Mitchell interview while tripping on acid.

Even if you’re not familiar with Mitchell or Channel 101, you can agree that more one-on-one interviews should be as otherworldly as they are here.

More festival line-up announcements need to go like this.

In a similar fashion to SF Sketchfest’s line-up announcement video, The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival had fun playing with the idea of announcing the line-up as a mother played by Lauren Lapkus would tell you what’s going to be on the dinner table or other weirdly out-of-place scenes with the likes of Dave Theune and Demorge Brown to be discussing what acts will be playing a giants arts and music festival.

Watch the announcement video here. Then, you can get more details on Outside Lands, which runs from Aug. 7-9, here.
