There are so many things to enjoy about Solomon Georgio first recorded hour of stand-up, Homonégro Superior, fresh off the presses from Comedy Central Records.

There’s Solomon very unique perspective as a gay man who also immigrated to the U.S. from Ethiopia. There’s Solomon’s poise and confidence. There’s also Solomon’s handy distillation of his life, in all facets, into whip smart, sharp, splendid observations and stories. You might have noticed all of this from his half-hour special, which just aired on Comedy Central this week.

In any case, you can (and should) get and enjoy Homonégro Superior here.

ATTN: All Comedy Bureau faithful:

We’re putting an APB for six individuals (well, one’s a duo, so seven technically), all comedians, that you need to keep a close watch on. Said individuals have been “operating” under the radar, but, we firmly believe, will be “at-large” very soon.

These “Comedians of Interest” are as follows:
Anna Seregina
James Austin Johnson
Ahmed Bharoocha
Candice Thompson
The Walsh Brothers
Eric Dadourian

To aid in this endeavor, we have compiled “secret recordings” of the six in question to show why you absolutely need to keep a close eye, ear, etc. on all of them on Comedians of Interest Vol. 1 with the gracious collaboration of AST Records.

Here are two sample tracks, so you can see how inevitable their escalation (in comedy) will be.
James Austin Johnson-“I’m From The South”https://soundcloud.com/aspecialthing/im-from-the-south-james-austin-johnson

Candice Thompson-“Chronically Single”https://soundcloud.com/aspecialthing/candice-thompson-chronically-single

Again, listen carefully and you’ll hear why you need to have her on a list of comedians you need to keep a close eye on everything that they do (i.e. go see them live, listen to their podcasts, watch all their videos, etc.)

Also, again, you can pre-order/buy Comedians of Interest Vol. 1 from AST Records here.

Derek Sheen consistently holds up his reputation to process this world that’s almost too crazy to cogently make fun of and weave a hysterical tapestry of life’s oxymoronic tendencies.

He did it on his last album Tiny Idiot and he does it yet again with Disasterbation, which has a true life story entitled “Hitler Fatigue”.

Here’s a taste of the album from another track that details Derek finding a silver lining after a horrific car accident.

Please get Disasterbation as it’s out now from Stand Up Records.

If you like jokes extra dry, we’d urge you to take a listen to The Matt Goldich Guarantee, the very album release from one Matt Goldich that has one of the driest deliveries around in the world of stand-up comedy.

Matt combines cleverness and sharp writing together and plates it, if you will, in a minimalist style with the serving of every joke.

Get a taste of of what we’re talking about from Matt’s set on Late Night with Seth Meyers from this week, then go get The Matt Goldich Guarantee here.

We’ve said many times in many ways that Dana Gould is kind of a gold standard when it comes to craftsmanship in stand-up comedy.

The precision that comes with both Gould’s writing and performing are top notch in all aspects, making it all seem kind of effortless. Also, Dana is a master of navigating dark subject material without it seeming exploitative or done for pure shock value.

His latest record Mr. Funny Man is another hour exemplifying all of the above, just as Dana has been doing for years and years and years.

With all of that said, we urge you to get Mr. Funny Man that was just released today.

The Comedy Bureau, an LA comedy institution that has served the art form of comedy and Los Angeles since 2010, has handpicked “secret” recordings of their “comedians of interest” and release them to the public on an album through the venerable AST Records. More specifically, these 6 acts contained within this record are comedians that TCB believes have not gotten nearly enough of the attention they deserve. They are hysterical, original, innovative, and should be watched be very close by all. Knowing this, commit their names to memory: Anna Seregina, James Austin Johnson, Ahmed Bharoocha, Candice Thompson, The Walsh Brothers, and Eric Dadourian.

-Jake Kroeger, Director of The Comedy Bureau

You can (and really, really should) get Comedians of Interest Vol. 1. It comes out on Friday, October 20th, but is available for pre-order now here.

At this point, a good amount of you now probably know Dave Anthony as one of the more accomplished and revered podcasters around with Walking The Room, The Dollop, and The LA Podcast Festival all under his belt.

We’d like you to know (or give you a friendly reminder) that Dave has been and is still a great stand-up that has only sweetened with more nuanced, commanding, and complex favors over the last few years (perhaps because of his podcasting experience).

You can hear so for yourself off his new album Hot Head recorded as part of an internationally touring show Dave recently did. The album recording was specifically done in Sydney, Australia and showcases Anthony’s obsessive attention to the darker, oft overlooked details of life and his ability to unwaveringly give them an enjoyable dressing down.

Shane Torres’ “Established 1981″ Makes Dark Places Seem Kind of Charming

From both his own name and the name of his album as well as the album’s cover, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that Shane Torres’ Established 1981 might be an hour of honest comedy tapped directly from Shane’s life that may snake its way through dark subject matter.

For this debut album, Shane indeed goes through stories and observations of a life that has been run through the ringer more than a few times. However, Shane has an unmistakable air of optimism in his comedic perspective, which left us with a smile on our face and the notion that maybe, things/life/etc. might be OK (eventually).

Get a taste of that here as he discusses a victorious way to quit your job.

Shane Torres’ Established 1981 is now available off of Comedy Central Records.

It’s a collection of “secret” recordings at various “hidden” locations in the LA comedy scene of the comedians that you need to most be on the lookout for.

We’ll be releasing details (as well as an album release show/party that coincides with our 7th Anniversary) over the coming weeks.

For now, we can only tell you that Comedians of Interest: Vol. 1 will be released to the public on Friday, October, 20th.

Often in comedy, people mistakenly assume that just being honest makes for the best comedy. Honesty is a great source and motivator for comedic material, but comedians still have to do plenty of work and exhibit a high level of craftsmanship to make honest stories from their life into refined bits of comedy.

Mike Bridenstine indeed draws from the well of his own life, whether it be being married to a black woman as a white man or witnessing one of the greatest bull fights of all time, but has also spent many years working on those stories like a fine aged whiskey on this debut album, The Hungry Wolf Hunts Best.

You should also note that Mike recorded this album on a single night with no edits like you were there. Such things are increasingly rare in comedy albums these days, but this hour from Bridenstine seems to be all the better for it.

The Hungry Wolf Hunts Best comes out this Friday, August 11th from AST Records, but you can pre-order it on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play now.

P.S. these promo videos for the album are pretty sweet.

Dana Gould’s Latest Album “Mr. Funny Man” to Come Out This Fall From Kill Rock Stars

When considering what goes into the craftsmanship of stand-up comedy, Dana Gould is, without a doubt, one of the art form’s best practitioners. His past three albums are absolutely required listening for any comedy fan.

We’re pretty sure his fourth album, Mr. Funny Man, will be required listening as well. As Dana has just announced it, look for it later this fall on Kill Rock Stars, a label that has a pretty stellar record in terms of comedy albums (Esposito, Braunohler, Karmel, Kondabolu, etc.) over the last few years.

Kate Willett may work a bit “blue”, but she brings a certain intelligence, craftsmanship, and vulnerability in talking about sexuality on stage that evolve such a simplistic description based on how racy some people might find her material.

She’s sincere and completely willing to dissect her life, including all the peaks and valleys. In that regard, the title for her brand new album “Glass Gutter” is perfect because Kate is set on a mission to ensure equality between genders at all levels no matter if they’re high or low.

Here’s a bit off the album accompanied by a clever reenactment.

You can (and should) get Glass Gutter off of iTunes right now from Rooftop Comedy.

Following Up a Whole Album About Death, Sean White Makes a Great Case for Anger and Loneliness with “Angry & Alone”

Exactly two years ago, we told you about Sean White’s bold debut album Dead & Gone that centered on death, both in his experiences with it and conceptually. Bold though it may be to essentially do a comedy album on death, Sean delivered and carved a really great hour.

This latest album, Angry & Alone, continues Sean focusing in on concepts through his own dark comedic lens. In a way, Sean delivers a hilarious new hour that makes a great case for the usefulness of anger and the value of being alone. His personal experience and carefully made observations make the pair of anger and isolation seem kind of fun and unique to himself as opposed to the many angry, lonely comedians that are out there these days.

Here’s a small morsel to show you what we’re talking about.

Though some of you may know Jim Tews as a cat whisperer of sorts that wrote Felines of New York, we’d hope that you were able to catch and enjoy him doing stand-up in and throughout NYC (and elsewhere) over the last couple of years like we have.

Tews, while unassuming in his persona, exudes a polite, subtle charm. This first album “I Was in Band” gives a great introduction to Jim and really shows off his knack for molding great comedy from his sensitivity to the world around him.

I Was In Band is out now from Rooftop Comedy and available on iTunes and Bandcamp.

Polish, presence, craftsmanship, a great knack for when to really kick up his showmanship, and a keen sense of observation of the world and himself are what we’ve got to enjoy altogether in Ron Babcock for quite awhile here in LA.

It’s almost surprising that This Guy. is his first release as Ron has plenty under his belt with stand-up, but that just makes this album all the more satisfying. He put together an hour that flows together seamlessly and executed it with the precision of someone who is more likely on their third album.

So, you can get This Guy. on iTunes now as it was just released from Sure Thing Records today.

Also, we love all the fake covers that Ron made for his album that you can see at the bottom of his homepage.

Hari Kondabolu's New Material Night Volume 1 by Hari Kondabolu

For years, Hari Kondabolu has done full length sets under the moniker of “New Material Night” that has allowed Hari room to breathe, play, develop, evolve with bits, concepts, premises, riffing, etc.

Usually, no such sets find its way to the light of day because comedians generally prefer a few coats of polish on an album.

However, Hari is one of the most relevant, funniest, and all around best voices in comedy right now (give Waiting for 2042 and Mainstream American Comic a listen if you haven’t already) a and really can make you appreciate the artistry of stand-up when he feels like showing the seams.

With all of that in mind, we’re excited (as you should be too) that he is releasing his own bootlegs from his New Material Nights from the past few years.

You can start off with Hari Kondabolu’s New Material Night Volume 1 that’s now available off of Bandcamp for $5.

Note: “It was recorded on an iPhone & fellow comedian Sean Keane’s camera on Dec 5th, 2013 in the now defunct “Dark Room” in San Francisco’s Mission District.”

Jackie Kashian’s latest hour of stand-up, I Am Not the Hero of This Story, is wire-to-wire fantastic. It’s a culmination of Jackie being mastered at all the skills of stand-up comedy including writing, personal voice, delivery, presence, timing, etc. and then focusing in on the zeitgeist from an incredibly personal and human perspective.

As much as it had us slapping our knees laughing through some really dark passages (including a chunk about the Armenian Genocide), this latest album has a very sincere air of hope, making it something really special.

Here’s a taste of the album.

I Am Not the Hero of This Story is out now from Stand Up! Records and you can get it off of iTunes.

For years, Carmen Lynch has carefully honed her brand of comedy that’s both a bit bubbly and a tad dark, but charming all the way through.

Her very first release, Dance Like You Don’t Need The Money captures that spirit that many have only gotten to see in small chunks for her various late night sets that she has racked up over the years. Throughout the hour, Carmen balances all her bits dealing with being personal, open, and honest about things including vaginas and giraffes with a jaunty wit.

Myq Kaplan’ Latest Album “No Kidding” Might Be His Best Hour of Stand-Up Yet

Over the years, we hope you might have been as lucky as we have been in seeing Myq Kaplan evolve as a comedian. His latest album, No Kidding, is, thus far, the pinnacle of that evolution.

Starting from his early years with impressive feats of verbal and linguistic acrobatics, Myq has now worked his way to presenting a very colorful, dazzling tapestry of who he really is a person, comedian, and artist. He has got a big following in the autistic community, defends not having kids, and explores the virtues of certain drugs. That’s just the tip of the ice berg that you get off of No Kidding. Of course, there are still plenty of threads of top shelf wordplay and clever callbacks that tie that tapestry together.

This might just be, as we mentioned up top, his best hour yet.

No Kidding was just released today off of AST Records (recent Grammy Award winners by the way) and you can get it on iTunes or on CD.
