Transparent, Veep, Anomalisa, and Master of None Get Golden Globe Comedy Nominations as Well as Joy and The Martian

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association continues to have a broader definition of comedy than anyone else during awards season.

There are your favorites as well as the favored upstarts in the field of this year’s Golden Globes nominees. The consistently praised Anomalisa and Master of None, heavy returning favorites Veep, Silicon Valley, and Transparent, comedy superstar Amy Schumer for Trainwreck, and brash newcomer Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend all got nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. There were even some noms for work that should be getting more love from more awards, but, somehow, isn’t. This includes Lily Tomlin’s turn in Grandma, Melissa McCarthy for Spy, and Hulu’s Casual from Jason Reitman.

With all of that said, films and shows that are being considered in different lights, mainly dramatic rather than comedic, have found their way into the comedy nominees, like they usually do, at The Golden Globes such as Joy, The Martian, The Big Short, and Orange Is the New Black. Certainly, Joy, The Martian, and The Big Short weren’t touting themselves as comedies in trailers and promotion and Orange Is the New Black has shifted to dramatic consideration with other awards. We’re not exactly sure why the distinction for comedy is so noticeably different with HFPA, but it does possibly allow for some notoriety for work that wouldn’t really get recognized otherwise.

So, here are the comedy nominees for this year’s Golden Globes.

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer’s Movie Will Center on a Flight Attendant and a “Mess” of a Sister

amy schumer, entertainment tonight, flight attendant, jennifer lawrence

That’s not much to go off of, but it’s still very enticing.

So, we’re imagining Jennifer Lawrence’s character in American Hustle dealing with Amy Schumer as flight attendant who is her sister. We’re in for that.

Lawrence briefly described the project in a recent interview on Entertainment Tonight and you can’t help but think of what great shouting matches will happen in this movie.

When asked about male co-stars, she also added that there aren’t really any boys in it.

We’d be surprised if this movie doesn’t get fast tracked soon.

Amy Schumer’s Mother/Daughter Set For Mother’s Day Weekend 2017

Well, that just might be the right amount of being “on the nose”.

As Trainwreck was a rom com for those tired of so many of the rom coms of decades past, perhaps Mother/Daughter starring Amy Schumer will be the Mother’s Day movie for those tired of a traditional Mother’s Day, yet still secretly wanting to recognize the importance of mothers.

While it’s definitely awhile from now and perhaps might be shifted in the next year, Mother/Daughter’s premiere date is on May 12th, 2017.

As of late, many of the best SNL host monologues are stand-up comedians just doing a set.

Amy Schumer kept that tradition alive and well last night.

Watch her monologue/set here, which should be a good primer for her HBO special next week.

Amy Schumer Has Sold Her Book for $8-$10 Million

(via EW)

At this point, what isn’t Amy Schumer working on?

Yep, Amy Schumer has a book coming out.

Already this year, she’s had a hit summer R-rated comedy, hosted an awards show, won a plethora of awards herself along with accompanying critical acclaim, opened for Madonna on tour, has an HBO special coming out later this year, and is working on a screenplay with Jennifer Lawrence.

For many folks in entertainment, that would be years worth of very accomplished work, but Schumer isn’t stopping with just all of that. She has just sold a book for a paycheck to the tune of $8-$10 million. The details of the book are scarce at this point, but it would hard to imagine it be a sort of book that wouldn’t keep her 2015 win streak going.

It’s already been a banner year for Schumer and we guess we have to make that banner a little bit bigger.

Amy Schumer is set to join the esteemed group of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sacha Baron Cohen, Matt Stone & Trey Parker, Ben Stiller, and Betty White for winning the British Academy for Film and Television Awards/BAFTA’s Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy.

We’ll be curious to see what Amy has in store for 2016 that might possibly top her 2015.

It’s like they’re trying to break the Internet or something.

After becoming close friends quickly this summer, Schumer and Lawrence have spent much of their time recently trading pages or a movie that they’re writing together.

Thus far, the only thing known about this movie is that Amy and Jennifer will play sisters. Given how much star power/bankability the two have, we imagine that a studio will pick up this very soon.

We are already trying to imagine how the panel interview would go with Musk and Colbert in two weeks.

The premiere of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is just over two weeks away and in addition to George Clooney, Jeb Bush, and Kendrick Lamar, you’ll know also get to look forward to Amy Schumer, Elon Musk, Scarlett Johansson, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Toby Keith, Stephen King, and Troubled Waters being guests on the show.

As you all are, we’re curious about the latitude that Colbert will employ with his wit and persona. This line-up of guests should make for a great display of how Colbert will establish that.

Kicking off on October, Amy Schumer will host on Oct. 10th, then Tracy Morgan will host the week after on Oct. 17th. The season premiere will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, which should prove for three big weeks for the long running sketch variety show.

Amy Schumer, Louis C.K., and Denis Leary To Be Final Guests on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”

Jon Stewart is going to have a ball on his last week.

Next Monday will be the start to Jon Stewart’s final days as host of The Daily Show. As such, he’s having three comedians, Amy Schumer, Louis C.K., and Denis Leary, all of whom he loves having on the show and subsequently had some of the best interview segments during Stewart’s Daily Show tenure.

That’s three guests, but Jon has 4 episodes left coming to an end on Aug. 6th, which means that there’s probably something special for a finale. It’s probably not an interview with Donald Trump over pizza, but we can always dream, right?

We’re not saying that you weren’t planning on it, but you should probably check out The Daily Show next week.

Inside Amy Schumer received more than a few Primetime Emmy nominations yesterday. Amy Schumer got to mark the achievement, which comes in a concentrated period of her career chock full of achievements, milestones, and accolades for Amy, when appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

The great thing is that she’s pretty much the same Amy that America has come to love and applaud over the last year or so.

When she seems like some of the character she portrays…

…or trying to do bits at the Time 100 Gala…

…or hanging with her longtime friends at the premiere of her movie, Amy is quickly becoming an American sweetheart for 2015.

Also, we’ll say it once more: Go watch Trainwreck. It’s great.

In making the rounds to promote her new movie Trainwreck, which you should go see this weekend because it’s pretty damn funny, Amy Schumer stopped by The Tonight Show to roast Fallon’s now infamous finger, the newly attained level of fame she’s gotten from starring in her first movie, and how that’s allowed her to pull a really sweet prank on Katie Couric.

Not that it should surprise you, but Schumer is becoming quite the go-to late night guest.

While on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Mike Birbiglia talked the ins-and-outs of being in Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck, which is, apparently, a little like getting a hotel bill after watching a bunch of porn in your room and then having an older sibling be better than you at whatever you’re best at.

Also, make sure to watch Trainwreck this weekend. You’ll laugh really hard at how Birbiglia is used in the movie.

More junket interviews should be like this.

At least one of the press junket interviews for Trainwreck has been conducted by someone who isn’t asking the same dull non-interesting questions that comprise most press junket interviews while also being funny.

Kurt Metzger, who writes on Inside Amy Schumer, got to conduct a “completely serious” interview with his boss Amy Schumer and her Trainwreck co-star Vanessa Bayer.

Like we said above, press folks should take a few cues to have more fun at junkets.

Watch it here, then be sure to watch Trainwreck (we saw it and it was great) this Fri. at a theater near you.
