Remember Brody Stevens Always Through New Audio Doc Series “Positive Connections: A Brody Stevens Oral History”

It has been more than a couple of years since the tragic passing of perhaps one of the best comics’ comics there ever was (and also just a great comedian separate from the label) Brody Stevens. His presence and influence still very much can be felt and honored throughout The Comedy Store, comedy in LA, and well beyond. Just yelling the phrase “positive energy” or a rising wind-up of the word “Yes!” snaps many comedians minds back to Stevens prowling on stage to be a singular comedic force, unlike any before him.

To honor his memory, esteemed comedy journalist and co-director behind the amazing 9/11 comedy documentary, Too Soon: Comedy After 9/11, Julie Seabaugh has put together an oral history of the life and times and comedy of Steven Brody Stevens that includes candid interviews with the likes of Chelsea Handler, Jeff Ross, Howard Kremer, and more. Positive Connections shows itself as very personal, yet thorough journey through Stevens’ indelible time as a comedian, leaving an unforgettable impression on almost every comedian that ever saw him or even talked to him before or after a show.

All four episodes of this limited series are streaming today on Sirius XM’s Raw Dog Comedy, channel 99, and are also available to stream whenever you’d like on the SXM app.

Comedians cheer as Just For Laughs decides radio channel will stay 100% Canadian | CBC News

Many Canadian comedians get great exposure and income from royalties off of play of their stand-up on things like SiriusXM Canada, especially because of the fact that there are mandates by the Canadian government that guarantee a certain percentage of airtime for Canadian artists on Canadian broadcasting.

That ecosystem was potentially going to get upended under a new deal between Just For Laughs and SiriusXM Canada that would allow non-Canadian comedians to be featured on “Canada Laughs”, a 100% Canadian comedy channel. Fortunately, the “Canada Laughs” channel will stay 100% Canadian after the uproar that was raised this week from comedians around the world and the set up for royalties will remain the same.

That affects many of the Canadian comedians that live here/frequently spend time in LA and this decision that was just reached will allow them to keep a steady income stream and reach an audience that they might have not gotten any other way.

So, in short, phew.

SiriusXM Has Agreed to Two Year Deal for “The Craig Ferguson Show”

For our money, Craig Ferguson was one of the best interviewers in late night and him getting a show to do essentially do whatever he wants for two years is a great thing.

During weekdays, Craig will host a two hour live show from 3PM to 5PM PST starting Monday, February 27th.

Ferguson has a knack for making conversation interesting even when guests weren’t bringing a lot to the table. He also had hysterical rapport with the likes of Steven Wright, which is comparable to the chemistry that Conan O’Brien and Norm MacDonald have.

We’re absolutely looking forward to a freewheeling Craig coming back on his own terms.

The stand-up of “comedy greats” throughout the decades will be featured on this new SiriusXM Comedy Greats channel. It’ll span the comedy of Richard Pryor and George Carlin to Joan Rivers to Eddie Murphy to Jerry Seinfeld to Louis C.K. to Amy Schumer and plenty more.

The channel will also feature countdowns and stories from the likes of current greats like Bill Burr, Bill Hader, Marc Maron, etc.

Look for Comedy Greats on SiriusXM on Aug. 13th.

Hopefully, if you don’t already, you’ll get some comedy albums after hearing any of this.
