We’re assuming that this Channel 5 announcement that a Tim & Eric library (which will include Dr. Steve Brule, Tom Goes to the Mayor, and new show SCUM) means all of the episodes of all of those shows will soon be available to stream somewhere on AdultSwim.com.

We’ll have to wait and see, but we’re pretty sure a good amount of your binge viewing time will go to this once it comes out.

Drew Michael Has a Trippy Trailer for His HBO Stand-Up Special

July 25, 2018
Uncategorized

For quite some time, Drew Michael has been on the darker side of comedy and we have quite enjoyed it (especially his album Funny to Death).

So, this minimalist, yet trippy trailer for his upcoming HBO special doesn’t come as a total surprise. However, it does leave us curious as to what lies in store for the hour stand-up special since stand-up-turned-comedy-impresario Jerrod Carmichael is directing, there is no audience, and there seems to be a secondary character played by a girl going through a roller coaster of emotions.

See for yourself here. Drew Michael premieres on HBO on Saturday, August 25th.

As a comedy horror series, Stan Against Evil is already at certain level of funhouse chaos, especially having had two seasons under its belt.

From the looks of this season 3 teaser unveiled at Comic-Con, they’re raising their own bar on how bonkers they want to get including sentient puppets and their own version of Mulder and Scully. We’re on board for all of that and more.

See for yourself here, then look for the season premiere on Halloween on IFC.

Andy Sandford’s Shameful Information Showcases Some of the Finest Joke Writing Around

Whenever we watch Andy Sandford, we can’t help but think how Andy makes his jokes as funny as they can be. Whether they be extended stories or classic set-up/punch style jokes, Andy meticulous tinkers with how his bits are written and delivered to their funniest point.

Shameful Information, Andy’s just-released special, exhibits Sandford’s exquisite craftsmanship that’s so enjoyable that you probably won’t even think about how an hour has passed by the time it’s done. Andy taped the special at Star Bar in Atlanta, his hometown, giving a much more genuine feel than you’d might get with a special performed in a gigantic theater. On top of all of that, Andy closes it with one of our all-time favorite jokes about inner city kids watching Abbott & Costello’s Who’s On First.

Also, we’d like to note that this special was recorded pre-2016 election and, for what it’s worth, there is a wondrous air devoid of the unmistakable cynicism of the current moment.

So, you can (and should) get and watch Shameful Information on iTunes right here.

2 Dope Queens Will Be Getting Another Round at HBO

There will indeed be four more 2 Dope Queens specials with Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson coming to HBO. We can only imagine what Williams and Robinson will have up their sleeve after successfully swinging for the fences with the first four 2 Dope Queens specials.

We’re more excited for this than most stuff we heard about from Comic-Con.

Matt Groening’s New Netflix Series “Disenchantment” Gets Its First Full Trailer

Amongst the wave of things that were unveiled during Comic-Con this weekend, Matt Groening’s newest series, Disenchanted, debuted its first trailer.

It’s the ultra clever comedy you’ve come to expect from the creator of The Simpsons, this time set in a fantasy world in the past. Though, as was the case of the distant future of Futurama, plenty of jokes will be plenty to relevant to the present day real world. We didn’t get to see much of it in the trailer, but we hope that there will be lots of signage humor in Disenchanted.

See all of this for yourself here and look for all episodes to start streaming on Netflix on Friday, August 17th.

Every so often…

…there comes a time…

…when UCB here in LA wants to do a very ambitious immersive comedy show…

…and use all the rooms at their disposal (specifically at UCB Sunset)…

…to give you one hell of a comedy experience!

That time is… this Saturday, July 21st when Cheap Ass Comic-Con presented by the Unfinished Target at Sunset and Western.

UCB has done a few of these over the years and they’ve always been otherworldly and so damn funny. So, don’t miss this latest one where they do a send-up of Comic-Con (also, it might be a great way to get an approximation of the Comic-Con experience without spending a whole lot of money and going to San Diego).

They’ve got three times that you can go this Saturday, 7PM, 8:30PM, and 10PM all at $12 a pop.

We highly recommend to get your tickets to catch this (probably) one time only Cheap Ass Comic-Con.

Dan Harmon EP’ing Rap Album by Comedian (and Big Harmontown Fan) Rob Tanchum

Dan and Harmontown Comptroller Jeff B. Davis will be on the album that started by Rob Tanchum recording and releasing his own song referencing Dan’s own freestyle raps on Harmontown. The album itself has a concept that seems like a fresh scheme from Rick’s lab.

The record sees Tanchum play a depressed loser from Earth, who is abducted by alien scientists, played by Harmon and Jeff Davis, who probe his unconscious mind and extract a concept album of self-loathing, id-driven rap songs.

August 21st is when Disturbed, Depressed, and Inadequate comes out via Starburns Industries’ SBI Press.

This sure looks like one of those rare, but wonderful cases where dreams do come true.

Netflix Will Soon Have Its Own Sirius XM Comedy Channel

For those that don’t have access to Netflix (or a friend or family member’s Netflix password), but somehow have a Sirius XM subscription, you’ll soon be able to listen to stand-up, talk show programs, and other original programming from Netflix, perhaps the dominant hub for stand-up these days.

When it comes to the “original programming”, we’re curious to see if this will become a proving ground for some projects, show ideas, etc.

There’s no start date as of yet, so we will have to just wait and see how all of this pans out.

Boots Riley Makes a Hell of a First Impression as a Writer/Director with His Bonkers Satire “Sorry to Bother You”

With that knucklehead Trump in office, satire is now more than ever presented as just satire with all the humor wrung out of it. That’s not to say that it isn’t good or effective, but there’s a reason that Black Mirror and all of it’s contemporaries are doing well at this moment.

Arguably, you could watch Sacha Baron Cohen’s Who Is America? and just look on sadly at the America that we collectively let happen as Cohen shoves that proverbial mirror over and over in our faces.

On the other hand, there’s Sorry To Bother You.

Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You, a feature debut from a multi-hyphenate artist, has so much panache and color and surrealistic elements that it’s ferocious satire is pretty damn enjoyable. In fact, there are echoes of early post-Monty Python Terry Gilliam throughout, which make it’s a message of systemic classism and racism even more accessible.

Think Office Space meets Brazil meets Get Out with The Coup (Boots Riley’s band) thumping in the background.

In any case, you should go see Sorry To Bother You while it’s still in a theater near you.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Mark Normand’s style, writing, cadence, persona, etc. are kind of perfect for the demanding nature of doing stand-up on a late night talk show.

His tight writing, structure, and transitions (and the fact that he dons a suit) calls back to a sort of a classic tight 5 on Carson (this set just happens to be a bit over 5 min. FYI).

In any case, you should enjoy Normand’s set here.
