The imprint label of Literally Figurative Records launched by Jonah Ray with AST Records is on its way forward with its first taping and it should be a doozy.

Not only is this first taping going to be the announced series of 7", but it will be recorded live at one of the most popular living rooms in the LA comedy scene, The Comedy Living Room.

Tues. Nov. 11th, Sean O Connor, Paige Weldon, Kyle Clark, Alex Hooper, Rhea Butcher, Matt Mira, and Jim Hamilton will get to lay their jokes down on vinyl and you can catch this moment in comedy history and what promises to be an overall great night of comedy for free.

Just make sure you RSVP to Literally Figurative Galaxy of Stars; A Live Album Recording.

RiffTrax Launches New Site; Will Be Doing More “Total Riff Off” For National Geographic

If watching all the Mystery Science Theater 3000 that you possibly can on Vimeo isn’t enough movie riffing fun for you, then you’ll be happy to know that many of the MST3K guys, now the stars of RiffTrax, have redone their entire website to make it easy to find, get, and enjoy their riffs to your favorite bad movies.

The National Geographic Channel is also having RiffTrax back this December after a successful run on April Fool’s Day, riffing, as they do, over animal footage.

That should be enough to satisfy your movie riffing fix.

“Rick & Morty” Working on a Simpsons Couch Gag

October 23, 2014
Uncategorized

(via Den of Geek)

The iconic “Couch Gag” in the opening of The Simpsons has become its own show of sorts with hundreds of variations and plenty of series crossovers including one with Game of Thrones, another one with Robot Chicken, one by Hayao Miyazaki, and one by Don Hertzfeldt.

Now, the best new animated series to hit TV, Rick & Morty, is getting their own Simpsons couch gag in an upcoming episode according to a NYCC announcement.

That only makes our mind wander as to what Rick Sanchez would do with the power plant, taking on Mr. Burns, etc. Surely, a portal to another dimension will be involved.

A New Try at Adapting “I.Q. 83” Brings on Steve Carell and Charlie Kaufman

The Arthur Herzog novel I.Q. 83 has been in the process of being adapted for the big screen, but has stayed in “development hell” for over a score of years. Various adaptations of the story of how a virus that dumbs people down (perhaps a sort of prequel to Idiocracy) haven’t been able to get the project moving forward much.

However, with the addition of Steve Carell starring and Charlie Kaufman writing a new adaptation over at Paramount, there might be hope yet. We’d be thoroughly taken aback if the two of them can’t get this to work.

Earlier this year, Showtime landed something big when they ordered the dark comedy series Happyish that was going to star Philip Seymour Hoffman.

As you probably know, Hoffman passed away tragically not long after Showtime picked up the series.

Steve Coogan has now been appointed in filling the role that Hoffman was set for and given just his recent work on Philomena and Alan Partridge, he’ll fill in quite nicely.

Netflix Orders 70s Animated Series “F Is For Family” Created by Bill Burr and Mike Price

While the label of being the next Louis C.K. has been put on Bill Burr from time to time, Burr has insisted that, as nice as that is, he’s not C.K.

In the sense that he’s expanding from being one of the most beloved stand-ups currently working today to creating and starring in shows, Burr is certainly moving in the same direction that C.K. has and we have no doubt he’s going to be great at it.

He already has a pilot ordered by FX, Pariah, and now, Bill has just scored a series order from Netflix for an animated 70s family comedy he co-created with The Simpsons’ Mike Price that will be titled F Is For Family. Burr will also be voicing the head of the family along with a great cast of Laura Dern and Justin Long.

In case it isn’t clear, we love everything about this.

In a TV landscape with plenty of channels rebranding, this seems like a pretty good step forward for the launch of Pop.

Given how much intentionally bad horror movies have reemerged as a fun subgenre, we’re a little surprised that there aren’t more horror comedy series in development/in production/being released.
