Campaigns For “Super Troopers 2″ and “Con Man” Crowdfund Impressive Millions

April 25, 2015
Uncategorized
alan tudyk, con man, crowdfunding, millions, nathan fillion, super troopers

$3.156 million and $4.42. million to be more precise.

As of yesterday, the Indiegogo campaign for the Super Troopers sequel finished with $4.42 million raised. That’s more than double than what they were initially going for.

In fact, going by how fast they raised the initial amount, they had made stretch goals that went all the way up to if $10 million were raised. They just stopped short of the $4.5 million goal of having live bears in the movie.

Earlier in the month, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man series raised an also very impressive $3.156 million after also racing to $2 million in record time.

Though it’s not the start of big projects raising millions via crowdfunding, this is certainly going to encourage way more of it.

Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman Trade Places on “The Late Show”

Apparently, David Letterman has never been a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Jerry Seinfeld makes the most of what will likely be his final appearance on The Late Show by turning the table, or rather, the desk, on David Letterman and interviewed him.

Of course, Letterman is still the same as he’s been for all these decades whether on the couch or behind a desk.

For curiosity’s sake, Jerry also gets a one-on-one lesson on how David impressively sprints out on to the show.

We have a feeling that if there’s some sort final episode tribute, Jerry will probably be there once more.

MTV Trying a Late Night Talk Show Again with “Middle of the Night Show”

April 25, 2015
Uncategorized
big breakfast productions, brian murphy, college humor, late night talk show, mtv

College Humor’s Big Breakfast is developing MTV’s latest late night talk show that will trade a sound stage and audience for a bedroom.

The Middle of the Night Show makes its twist on the late night talk show format by getting rid of desk, couches, sound stage, audience, etc. and, instead, goes to the bedroom of guests while they are sleeping and waking them up to have them host a show from their home.

It seems like some sort of cross between this Rihanna prank on Jimmy Kimmel and The Late Late Show episode where Corden did an entire episode in someone’s house and Matt Oswalt’s Pre Dawn Show.

College Humor’s Brian Murphy will co-host as they’re trying to catch celebrities in the middle of their REM cycles and need someone to guide the show along.

Supposedly, the celebrity host that will be woken up to do the show will have no prior warning as to exactly when the crew will come in. If that’s true, we’d imagine that there would be a few episodes where the crew and Brian will set off an alarm.

James Corden Plays Matchmaker For Complete Strangers

Corden really played his genuine card as a late night host really well here.

The latest venture of James Corden the new Late Late Show is trying to make a love connection between two complete strangers. It’s a simple enough concept, but Corden’s curiosity, charm, and sincerity make this segment more than just an episode of Blind Date.

Watch how he pairs the two, then sets up the date, and ties a lovely bow on the whole remote.

Are you the type of person that tends to just read news headlines rather than the whole story and likes one joke to go with it AND wants to be able to post it to your social media feeds with incredible ease?

Well, Funny or Die has got something for you as you’re probably a millennial.

Rather than following AP’s Twitter feed, you can get the Funny or Die News Flash app that gives you all of today’s news in an quick and easy format that also includes their award winning brand of sarcasm.

They show a headline as well as a late night monologue style joke, then link to the whole actual story. Find out more here and download the Funny or Die News Flash App from iTunes here.

Some ‘Swinging’ Might Be Afoot in Trailer for “The Overnight”

April 24, 2015
Uncategorized
adam scott, jason schwartzman, judith godreche, patrick brice, taylor schilling, the overnight

By swinging, we do mean sex.

In Patrick Brice’s The Overnight, Adam Scott and Taylor Schilling play a couple who just moved to LA with their son and Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godrèche play another couple who welcome them very graciously, perhaps a little overly so.

A welcome dinner turns quickly into something suggestive of some of the hotter scenes of Vicky Cristina Barcelona in another hit Sundance comedy.

Watch the trailer here and mark down the release date for Jun. 19th.

ABC To Skew New “Muppets” Towards Grown-Ups

April 23, 2015
Uncategorized

(via EW)

Looks like No, You Shut Up! won’t be the only TV show with puppets intended for older audiences on the block anymore.

ABC is reviving The Muppets, but are giving the franchise a 21st century makeover that will act more like a single camera mockumentary (hopefully appealing to more adults) than the previous versions of the show. This new Muppets will also delve deeper into the lives of The Muppets beyond what Kermit and Ms. Piggy have going on.

We’re not sure how far they’ll go with this “adult” idea, but it’s not completely off base as shown by series like Adventure Time that appeal to a wide range of ages.

You’re going to want to probably rearrange your binge watching or just make more time for it altogether.

Hulu has just signed a big deal with Turner Broadcasting that will give them exclusive online streaming rights to a whole bunch of series from Adult Swim and Cartoon Network.

You’ll get to stream episodes and full seasons of anything from Adventure Time to Robot Chicken to Dexter’s Laboratory to Aqua Teen Hunger Force to Black Jesus to NTSF:SD:SUV to The Venture Brothers to Rick and Morty and way more.

On top of that, the deal includes some live action series from the TBS and TNT, which will include the upcoming Angie Tribeca from Steve and Nancy Carell.

All of this starts next week on May 1st. The only thing better than this announcement would be if they got Will Forte as Ted Turner to announce it live somewhere.

Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” To Be a Musical Comedy, Sort Of

April 23, 2015
Uncategorized
hail caesar, the coen brothers

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

This might be more ambitious than what they did with O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Coen Brothers’ upcoming “Hail, Caesar!” will follow a day in the life of a studio “fixer” in 1950s Hollywood and will also include going in between many productions and their various musical numbers. The actual main story won’t be a musical, but will have several different musicals within in it.

The problems that the “fixer” is there to see will apparently be serious, but the juxtaposition of those lavish musical numbers from Old Hollywood should provide the type of signature dry humor of The Coen Brothers.

We can’t wait to see what The Coens got up their sleeve this time. Maybe, they’ll run into Barton Fink?

Kumail Nanjiani Haunted By Jokes on “Silicon Valley”

The number of times NBC has to bleep out the word “dick” is past midnight is pretty funny just by itself.

Kumail Nanjiani stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers this week and explained how many of the jokes he makes on Silicon Valley get often quoted to him in inappropriate real life situations, which, given the content of the show, is a lot of the time.

The moral of the story here is that you don’t tell the world’s greatest dick joke without it following you wherever you go.

Amazon Orders “Highston” Comedy Pilot From Bob Nelson

Screenwriter Bob Nelson is making the jump from indie hit Nebraska to the open TV pastures of Amazon.

Amazon Studios is continuing to rack up their talent pool that already includes Jill Soloway, Woody Allen, and now Nelson.

Not only is Nelson writing “Highston”, but the ever-industrious and mischievous Sacha Baron Cohen will be producing it, and the Little Miss Sunshine team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are set to direct.

Needless to say, we’re incredibly intrigued to see how all these folks mesh together on a coming-of-age comedy online.

It’s not as easy to put comedy tastes into an algorithm as it as music. As that’s the case, Pandora will now be highlighting certain comedians, which we think is the better route for listening to comedy.

They also made great pick starting with Nate Craig.

Six weeks ahead of its release, you can stream Nate Craig’s brand spankin’ new album “Eggshell” exclusively on Pandora as part of their new Pandora Comedy Spotlight program. It’s like NPR’s wonderful First Listen, but done for comedy.

So, with all of this in mind, we urge you to listen to Eggshell here, then, if you can, go to Nate’s party celebrating the occasion in Venice tonight.

This definitely tops the other recent casting announcements.

Thus far, Zoolander 2 has Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson returning in their roles, but they also have Billy Zane who appeared in a cameo returning as well as the additions of Kristen Wiig and Penelope Cruz.

Now, Fred Armisen is in the mix according to Ben Stiller and his Instagram’s.

We don’t know what character he’s playing, but we can definitely see him perhaps as someone avenging the defeat of Mugatu or the son of the evil DJ.

The running gag of any long time host leaving their show is what they’re going to do afterwards as if they don’t have any sort of money whatsoever to fall back on for awhile.

Jeff Garlin picks up that torch here.

After some clever anti-promotion promotion for his TV show, The Goldbergs, Garlin spent the majority of his interview on last night’s Daily Show offering one of his best friends, Jon Stewart, a spot on his aforementioned show.

The offer, however, isn’t to play one of The Goldbergs. Watch it all here.

One more round for (part of) the Parks and Rec gang?

Parks and Recreation creator Mike Schur and co-executive producer Alan Yang are back together with Aziz Ansari AKA Parks and Rec’s Tom Haverford for 10 episodes of a new series at Netflix.

Plot details are scarce, but the cast will feature Jon Benjamin, Noel Wells, and Eric Wareheim and Smashed and Spectacular Now director James Ponsoldt will direct.

No premiere date has been set, but the series is already in production.

It’s things like this that are making Netflix considered to be worth more than CBS, Viacom, and Twitter.

“Comedy Bang! Bang!” Gets Ready to Say Goodbye to Reggie Watts as He Is Bringing His Signature Goofs and Musical Genius to “The Late Late Show”

Thus far, Reggie is staying Reggie over at CBS.

In the middle of this fourth season of Comedy Bang! Bang! at IFC, Reggie Watts stepped down as bandleader and Scott Aukerman’s sidekick in order to take on his current gig as bandleader at The Late Late Show with James Corden. His final Comedy Bang! Bang! episodes are coming up and a farewell video or sorts was made to commemorate him in, of course, absurdist CBB style.

As you can see from what was supposed to be a remote segment about the NBA Playoffs on last night’s Late Late Show as well as his 4/20 song, Reggie is settling into his network gig just fine.

In fact, seeing how he and his band Karen have done over the last couple of weeks, they have the potential to be the greatest band in late night if they keep headed in the direction their headed.
