Rich Fulcher Narrates Bobby Fischer vs. Boris Spassky for “Drunk History”

October 9, 2015
Uncategorized
bobby fischer, boris spassky, cold war, drunk history, jake johnson, rich fulcher, taran killam

The story of chess prodigy Bobby Fischer playing against Russian chess champion Boris Spassky is already incredulous without embellishment, especially the type coming from a person who is under the influence of some substance.

So, it only stands to reason that a silly, drunk Rich Fulcher would tell one of the best versions of the story accompanied by Taran Killam as Bobby Fischer and Jake Johnson as Boris Spassky while he seems like one of the drunker narrators that has been on Drunk History. This should serve as a great appetizer or dessert for watching Pawn Sacrifice.

Watch how Fischer beat the Russian chess grandmaster as well as how Rich made it through the story.

Have you been missing The Coen Brothers’ more humorous side as of late?

If so, you’ll been happy to know that their wonderfully dry comedy streak seems to run all through the trailer of their latest offering, “Hail, Caesar!”.

Boasting a stellar cast of Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill as well as lavishly done up set pieces of Hollywood’s classic Golden Age, Hail, Caesar! looks to be everything we were hoping it would be.

Watch the trailer here.

Greg Barris and Bridey Elliot Could Be an Odd Couple for the 21st Century in “Roommates”

October 9, 2015
Uncategorized

If there was a dire time that would drive dissimilar roommates into the same living situation, it would probably be now.

Greg Barris and Bridey Elliott end up in such a situation where they’re different genders and vastly different in age in their new web series, aptly named Roommates.

Watch the first episode here and see how you can see how they’d be the more true-to-life, modern update of The Odd Couple.

Jack Black Is Back Developing a Comedy Following a Struggling Musician with Dwight Yoakam at Fox

(via Deadline)

In case you don’t remember, Tenacious D was once a great series about a struggling rock duo.

Jack Black seems to be at his best when comedy and music are intertwined in whatever he’s working on like Tenacious D or Festival Supreme.

That’s why we’re glad to hear his latest project is a single camera comedy at Fox that he’s working on with Dwight Yoakam, an accomplished country musician who had a pretty great turn as a doctor in Crank.

Written by Alex McAulay and called Belles and Whistles, it’ll follow a dad moving to Nashville to be a country star.

We’re definitely excited about the possibilities here as something that’s plenty of parts Tenacious D the series with a tad of Nashville could be what’s happening here.

Here’s a Trailer for Anthony Jeselnik’s Latest Special “Thoughts and Prayers” Coming to Netflix Next Week

For his latest hour special, Anthony Jeselnik decided to test himself by taping it in a very politically correct town like San Francisco. Having seen Jeselnik alive, well, and still toeing the line with his villainously clever material after he finished the taping, we’re thinking that it went pretty well.

You can see for yourself in a trailer for Thoughts and Prayers here, then, in full, on Netflix on Oct. 16th.

Vimeo Announces an Aidy Bryant Short Film and a Stand Up Special from Bianca Del Rio on Its Original Programming Slate

Amidst the din of online content, Vimeo, where High Maintenance got found, is getting its content wheels turning.

SNL’s Aidy Bryant will be writing and starring in a surreal short film where she works in a fabric store and is dreaming of finding love.  Drag queen and comedian Bianca Del Rio is also getting a stand-up special, which will be a first for Vimeo as well.

Given the company’s penchant for top shelf content, we’re really curious to see what they got cooking.

Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo Now Consults on HBO’s  Silicon Valley

Mike Judge is ensuring the satirical nature of his show Silicon Valley hits as close to home as it possibly can.

Dick Costolo, who ran in the sort of tech circles that the show sends up on every episode, now has plot and story run by him for authenticity purposes at the Silicon Valley writers’ room. In a way, it’s as almost if he’s a Neil DeGrasse Tyson for the shows portrayal of tech corporate culture.

Just like people can’t believe the source material that Another Period is actually based on, we’re sure Costolo will also bring something that shows life is stranger and probably funnier than fiction.

Yes, that’s an Ali G reference.

Sacha Baron Cohen along with his company partner Andrew Newman have started their own production company Spelthorne Community Television that will, as you’d expect, develop bold and ambitious comedy.

Right now, they’ll be based in the UK with a bit of a stake from UK network Channel 4, but don’t be surprised, given Cohen’s success in the U.S., to see series from Spelthorne Community TV stateside in the not so distant future.

Now we’re curious if this means there could be more burgers for another Bob’s Burgers cookbook.

Jason Reitman’s “Casual” Has Now Premiered on Hulu

Keep in mind that Hulu doesn’t release all the episodes all at once, which might actually make your day a little easier to plan for watching Jason Reitman’s latest work, Casual.

It’s been years since Reitman’s last comedy, but we’re more than excited that he’s back in the genre as Thank You For Smoking, Young Adult, and Juno still stick with us. Also, the idea of a Jason Reitman series at Hulu is an intriguing idea all on its own and a sign of the increasing shift of well-regarded filmmakers going to TV.

So, without further adieu, get into the first two episodes of Casual here.

Watch a good round up of Billy’s latest work here, then watch the season 4 premiere on Thurs. Oct. 8th at 10:30PM on truTV.
