Shez Cassim Still in Jail in United Arab Emirates for Parody Video

Shez Cassim and his friends have been in jail in the United Arab Emirates for making a parody video for several months.

Only know have they been sentenced to a year in jail, though whether those months will count or they’ll have to serve their full sentence and get deported back to the U.S. has yet to be officially seen.

Whatever government arm that’s in charge of public relations for the UAE must be taking the holidays off.

Before The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, there was no premium service for eHarmony, but as Ben Stiller made up a premium eHarmony service for the movie, they decided to go make that a real thing.

Life imitating art imitating life for a quick funny introductory scene?

Weird Al Yankovic Settles Multi Million Lawsuit Against Sony Music

Apparently, Sony Music had not being giving Weird Al Yankovic his due for what he was owed from various uses of Yankovic’s content.

Amidst several allegations, the music video for “White and Nerdy” was big on YouTube for Sony Music and Yankovic saw little money from that.

Looks like we’re all still figuring out how to make a feasible online content model that’s fair to artists and lucrative enough for investors/companies.

‘The Simpsons’ Sam Simon To Receive WGA’s Valentine Davies Award

One of the developers behind The Simpsons, Sam Simon, is getting honored by the WGA with the Valentine Davies Award.

We don’t know if the WGA or Sam would be into it, but it would be pretty great if the award had his Simpsons Halloween nickname that they give the whole cast and crew during their Halloween episode.

‘Zoolander 2’ Could Happen When Ben Stiller Has Time to Do It Justice

A deservingly seminal comedy for many in this generation, Zoolander has stood the test of time in many DVD shelves of twenty and thirty somethings across the country.

Well, it may be time for a sequel when Ben Stiller gets a little more time away from stuff like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Red Hour Films, all the web videos he pops up in, and much more so we can all imitate whatever look Derek Zoolander comes up with next.

Jackie Kashian Taping First Hour Comedy Special at Acme in Minneapolis

Though we get spoiled with her comedic awesomeness here in LA, Jackie Kashian is going closer to her roots in Minneapolis, MN at The Acme Comedy Company to record her first hour comedy special.

It’s right after Christmas on Dec. 26th and 27th, so it’s the perfect balance from doing all that obligatory family stuff on the Christmas and Christmas Eve.

If you’re in or around or can get to the Acme Comedy Company on those dates, we ask that you don’t miss this taping.

Lionsgate Developing a BriTANick Movie

It’s true that a full fledged movie studio is getting behind the guys who made the short film Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses.

Lionsgate is in development with Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher better known as BriTANick to make a feature length film.

We know this probably won’t happen, but it would be pretty great if they adapted Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses into a two and a half hour epic.

David Koechner To Create & Star In Variety Sketch Comedy Pilot For NBC

We’re thrilled that NBC has tapped David Koechner for a variety sketch show pilot and we think it’ll inject some much needed vigor and excitement into NBC’s development slate.

However, we’d be curious how this would pair with SNL if this got picked up.

Details on The Chris Gethard Show Pilot for Comedy Central

A Q&A with Chris Gethard and company revealed some key details on the upcoming Comedy Central pilot for The Chris Gethard Show including the fact that he would love to fight Pete Holmes, it will be a half hour, it won’t be taped at MNN, show would hopefully air live, if the pilot isn’t picked up, then they’ll apparently wrap up TCGS for good, and more.

So, let’s cross our fingers or indulge whatever ritual you think maybe works to get this on the air (or if you’re a Comedy Central exec reading this, just make the appropriate call after the pilot to make sure it goes to series so The Chris Gethard Show can live on).

Former NBC Chiefs Courting Leno Post-Tonight Show

There’s been a lot of talk, for years actually, of what will happen to long time host of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno.

Well, as his departure nears in February of 2014, transitioning to Jimmy Fallon, there has been interest in such places like CNN, though it would seem the parties interested seem to all be former NBC chiefs like Jeff Zucker and Jeff Gaspin.

Nothing is set in motion, but it’ll be interesting to see what Leno does if he ends up moving to cable.

Cartoon Network Sets New ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Special Featuring Ringo Starr

Some of you might know that there was a time before Adult Swim where Cartoon Network was making cartoons that were leaning in the direction of shows for a wide range of ages as opposed to just kids.

Amongst them, Powerpuff Girls was one of their most popular and is now going to be coming back near the end of Jan. with a special that will feature the voice of Ringo Starr.

So, January/2014 along with everything else that’s premiering is shaping quite nicely already.

2014 can’t come any quicker despite all of us wanting to see what John Oliver is exactly cooking up over at HBO. Oliver is already setting his pieces in place for his show by having another Daily Show cohort join his ranks in head writer Tim Carvell.

In other words, we’re probably going to get something close to Oliver hosting The Daily Show this past summer or something possibly even better.
