FX Supports Tracy Morgan, Says “His Show Will Be Waiting For Him” When He Recovers

Despite Tracy Morgan’s severe injuries and long recovery ahead from a horrific car accident this past weekend, FX will still move ahead with his show set to premiere on FXx when Morgan feels ready he can go back to work.

Tracy is currently in stable condition, but the show’s schedule is probably going to be pushed back a few months, if not several.

Levity Entertainment, which is behind several the chain of Improv  and Funny Bone comedy clubs across the country as well as representing several big time comedic performers.

With this move, Irving Azoff Madison Square Garden Entertainment would help to expand a chain of comedy clubs with Levity’s name on them.

We’re definitely curious to see how all of this rolls out.

Josh Brolin and George Clooney Set to Co-Star in The Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar!

The Coen Brothers latest comedy Hail Caesar! is enlisting one of their favorites, especially when it comes to comedy, in George Clooney who was in Intolerable Cruelty and Burn After Reading. Josh Brolin will also be joining in for this 1950s Hollywood period piece focused on the fixers that protect celebrities.

Not that it would be otherwise, but we have a good feeling about this.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Taking to Food Trucks For Emmy Campaign

Most “For Your Consideration” campaigns by shows and movies consist of billboards and perhaps some interesting, innovative mailers. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is stepping it up by taking over a whole food truck and giving out food to Emmy voters.

Glad to see one show, and a funny one at that, is getting innovative for their award campaign.

Comedy Central Renews Review, Inside Amy Schumer, and TripTank, and Orders a Bunch of New Series

As far as we’re concerned, Comedy Central really has stepped up its programming over the last couple of years and did a great job in re-imagining and expanding their brand.

So, it comes as great news, but no surprise to us that they renewed Review and TripTank for second seasons and Inside Amy Schumer for a third season on top of ordering Another Period with Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome and Idiotsitter with Jillian Bell and Charlotte Newhouse to series.

They also have ordered six new web series for CC:Studios: 6 Guys 1 Car, 300 Sunnyside, New Timers, Pie Guys, Roustabout with Kurt Braunohler and Team Tiger Awesome.

It’s a pretty great time for Comedy Central right now.

Armando Iannucci, Mike Schur, Jenji Kohan, Mike Judge, Jenni Konner, Chuck Lorre, and Marc Maron Have a Fascinating Chat

The Hollywood Reporter gathered together comedy showrunners Mike Schur from Parks and Recreation, Jenji Kohan from Orange Is The New Black, Mike Judge from SIlicon Valley, Armando Iannucci from Veep, Jenni Konner from Girls, Chuck Lorre from Two and Half Men (and so many more), and Marc Maron from Maron to chat for awhile about being a showrunner for a comedy series in 2014.

The results are pretty intriguing and enlightening. At one point, due to the modifier asking the entire group a number questions that they qualified with an exemption of Lorre’s shows, Chuck Lorre asked, “What am I doing here?”

A Great Explanation on Why It’s Hard To Enforce Copyright and Trademark Law Against Joke Thievery

James J.S. Holmes and Kanika D. Corley, both involved in media and entertainment law, wrote a pretty thorough explanation as to the difficulty of making a case against joke thievery for The Hollywood Reporter.

You’ll find that it’s so much harder than hearing someone tell the same joke as you to have any legitimate claim to copyright or trademark infringement.

UPDATE on Ant-Man Director: Peyton Reed Chosen, Adam McKay Will Help Script

We just reported the possibility of Ant-Man being directed by David Wain. Another director in contention was Peyton Reed, who was just announced as the replacement for Edgar Wright. Reed whose name might not be as recognizable as Wain’s has a wide and varied directorial filmography including Yes Man, Upright Citizens Brigade the TV series, Bring It On, Mr. Show, The Weird Al Show, and more.

In sort of a twist, Adam McKay, who was a possible choice for Marvel as a director, will now help write the script.

David Wain in Running to Replace Edgar Wright on Ant-Man

Marvel Studios is scrambling with getting a new director for Ant-Man ever since Edgar Wright walked away from the project. Since then, Adam McKay was in talks to take the gig, but then couldn’t find time in his schedule.

Now, David Wain might be up for directing Ant-Man. If he takes this on, this would be Wain’s first time directing a comic book movie and probably one of the most intriguing pairings between director and a comic book movie in recent memory.

Bryan Cranston Adapting ‘Dangerous Book for Boys’ as a Comedy Series for TV

In addition to producing a web series at Crackle, Bryan Cranston is furthering his role behind-the-scenes with adapting Conn and Hal Iggulden’s The Dangerous Book for Boys as a comedy series, hopefully for TV. Based off the book, the series would follow three boys trying to raise themselves imaginatively without a father.

So, this might be somewhere, tangentially, in the realm The Kings of Summer or Moonrise Kingdom with Cranston at the helm. So, we’re on board.

Feral Audio adds another great comedian and podcast to their roster in Kumail Nanjiani’s brand new X-Files Files. As you might guess, Kumail breaks down every episode of the X-Files with a guest.

Already we’re hooked on the idea, but this is even better if you’ve heard Kumail’s joke about his love/hate relationship with the X-Files.

Considering how many jokes have been done on the subject of male genitalia throughout the history of comedy, it’s a bold statement to claim that any single dick joke could be the best one.

HBO’s Silicon Valley makes a case for a damn good one. And, to answer your question, yes, it involves complex mathematical equations.
