Tom Hanks and Bill Murray Will Be Final Guests on Letterman Before Finale

May 15, 2015

Of course the final guests are Tom Hanks and Bill Murray.

The finale episode of The Late Show with David Letterman doesn’t have a line-up of guests, which we guess is to keep us all in suspense as to whether Dave will have a big star-studded salutation to late night as is customary or do something else altogether.

Still, the two days leading up to Wed. May 20th are sure to have plenty of moments that will be memorable for years to come with Hanks and Murray, two of the best late night guests that ever were. There will also be musical performances from Eddie Vedder and Bob Dylan.

Hanks and Vedder will be on Monday night’s show and Murray and Dylan on Tuesday.

Any takers on what Murray will be wearing in his final appearance or if he might take a jackhammer to the stage again?

And “The Late Late Show With James Corden” Begins With a Cool New Set, Clever Segments, and Sincerity

As far as we can tell, James Corden is off to a good start at The Late Late Show.

The premiere episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden aired last night and gave America a good showing of what Corden, bandleader Reggie Watts, and this new era of late night is all about as far they’re concerned.

These two segments of how Corden “got” the Late Late Show host gig and how he runs through this thorough retrospective of Tom Hanks’ career kick the show off to a fun, yet clever premiere.

</p>

Right off the bat, you’ll note the set doesn’t trying to relive some late night talk show sets of yesteryear, but instead is quite dark in its color palate and delightfully all over the place. See the checkered floor that Reggie and his band Karen play on.

Oh yeah, Reggie’s wonderful band is named, for now, Karen according to this interview with The A.V. Club and Reggie will seemingly get to bring some of the Comedy Bang! Bang! flavor to network television as shown by the one question he asked Hanks.

They definitely employ other things that slightly eschew traditional late night tropes like Corden’s monologue leaning more towards his predecessor Craig Ferguson’s style of being in the moment and coming from the heart. James also doesn’t sit behind the desk for the interview, interviewed both Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis at the same time sort of like The Graham Norton Show, and even had slick black cards instead of the traditional light blue that talk show hosts used to stay on point throughout the show.

Of course, this is just the premiere episode and all of this could end up changing, but it’s clear that, whatever happens, James will be completely genuine about it as you can see with his closing ballad.

You can watch the whole premiere here and see it all in its entirety for yourself.

“The Late Late Show with James Corden” Sets More Guests

The first few episodes of the new Late Late Show with James Corden will have Tom Hanks, Kevin Hart, and more

Following that, they’ve scheduled more guests to include Rob Corddry, Thomas Lennon, Tig Notaro, and more.

CBS announced an upcoming list of said guests this morning:

David Beckham, comedian Rob Corddry, Simon Cowell, Courteney Cox, Jon Cryer, Claire Danes, Michael Douglas, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Harmon, Thomas Lennon, Katharine McPhee, Megan Mullally, Matthew Perry, Freida Pinto, Tig Notaro, Gordon Ramsay and Kerry Washington.

Additional performances include George Ezra, Noel Gallagher, OK Go, Olly Murs, The Ting Tings and Jessie Ware.

That’s a good run of guests, but we are curious if Hanks will end up being like Bill Murray is to Letterman or Amy Poehler is to Seth Meyers as a first and frequent guest.

Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, and Kevin Hart To Be Among First Guests at “The Late Late Show with James Corden”

The Late Late Show with James Corden is almost a month away from its debut. Not only will you have Corden and Reggie Watts taking the helm of the show, but, just announced today, Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, and Kerry Washington are slated to be guests on the first week of the show.

We fully expect to see some sort of remote segment, sketch, or bit with Hanks and Ferrell. Maybe something with invisible juggling and vintage typewriters?

Tom Hanks To Write a Book of Short Stories

November 3, 2014

(via Vulture)

It would be hard to imagine that a collection of short stories from the mind of the one ever-gregarious Tom Hanks wouldn’t have a bit of humor of in it, if not a whole row of funny stories.

Not that there is any evidence that he’d write about such experiences as taking a picture with a fan who pretended to be passed out at a diner or perhaps a first person account from the point-of-view of Wilson, but that wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility, considering how obsessed with the magic of typing on vintage typewriters.

He is setting to write an entire book of short stories soon and we’ll see exactly what Hanks has coming through that typewriter ribbon.

Fox Adapting 1988’s Big Into TV Series

Enlisted’s Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce have been tapped to develop the hit comedy Big starring Tom Hanks into a comedy series for Fox.

There’s no word on who would star or how much they’ll stick to the original movie (i.e. a kid could be turned into an adult by a Zoltar machine), but there’s potential here especially if they get someone like, perhaps, Chris Pratt to star.

2) The Reggie Watts Show Pilot. Hopefully, it’ll stay up this time.

3) We’re leaving Portland today, but we had a great time here.  Catching No Pun Intendo at Ground Kontrol, a comedy show at a video arcade, and the Suki’s open mic only scratched Portland’s lively and growing comedy scene.  If anyone reading gets a chance to go (even if it’s not time for the Bridgetown Comedy Festival), please comedy in Portland.  Now, we’re back on our way to LA where we’re spoiled comedy wise.

4) The Everything is Festival at Cinefamily is streaming live in case you’re broke, a cheap skate, or can’t your budget approved.

3) What Megan Amram thinks an episode of “Games of Thrones” is like without having ever seen the show.

“Enter JAIME LANNISTER, an important member of the 92,924,024-person cast. He has just finished elaborately sexing a glimmering satyr with his shimmering be-amuleted penis. P.S. There are 356,753,103 satyrs in this show. They are half-horse/half-sexy horse.”

4) The march for the Onion getting a Pulitzer via their own grassroots organization AFAJP continues with the celebrity backing of Arianna Huffington, Tom Hanks, and Mario Batali. I wonder what Literally Unbelievable will makes of this.
