Pick of the Day: 9th Annual High and Mighty: Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour! (in LA) 11/22

News
dynasty typewriter, high and mighty, improv, jon gabrus, thanksgiving

Halloween is done and dusted and we’re on to the thick of the holiday season with Thanksgiving approaching fast. That actually means a lot of things for comedy, but one of the main things is Jon Gabrus’ annual High and Mighty: Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour, a true blue hour of 6 friends doing 60 shots of beer each and then letting the most hysterical Turkey Day ridiculousness unravels on stage.

This 2023 edition will be the 9th year that Gabrus and company endeavor on downing a lot of brew in just an hour’s time and will be doing so in the lovely walls of Dynasty Typewriter on Wed. Nov. 22nd at 7:30PM. It’s such a rip roaring good time that a livestream will be available as well (7:30PM PT/10:30PM ET). In-person tickets for Jon Gabrus’ annual High and Mighty: Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour are $20 and live-stream are $15 and you can (and should) go start in on the holiday gift buying by snagging a pair here.

Pick of the Day: Thanks But No Thanksgiving (in NYC) 11/20

We sincerely hope that, at this point in time, especially with all the reckoning that we all were supposed to be going through with racism in America, that you know the history behind Thanksgiving isn’t the idyllic picture that you were very likely shown when you were a kid.

That said, there’s a comedy show coming up that’s being put up by all Native American comedians on Lenape land at Union Hall. Brian Bahe, Dash Turner, Tai Leclaire will put on this non-Thanksgiving holiday variety show that will still be a great time, but free of any whitewashed American Turkey Day make-em-ups.

Thanks But Not Thanksgiving: A Native American Variety Show is set for Sat. Nov. 20th at 7:30PM ET at Union Hall. Tickets are $10, $12 on the day of.

Also, the event says “One free horse per audience member.” You should go for a lot of reasons, but one of those reasons should definitely be to find out if you actually get a horse of some kind.

Get tickets here now.

Pick of the Day: Convoy’s 14th Annual Thanksgiving Feast Show 11/25

Thanksgiving is upon us and the need for food on a day that’s pretty much dedicated to pretty much being everyone’s cheat day. Still, plenty of folks are short on or without food and, especially because of the pandemic and new lockdown restrictions, are in dire need of support, more so than ever before.

That’s why Convoy, one of LA’s best improv groups for several years & long running UCB house team, is doing their annual Thanksgiving Feast Show in support of the LA Regional Food Bank. Alex Berg, Julie Brister, Alex Fernie, Deborah Tarica, Suzi Barrett, Oscar Montoya, and Todd Fasen will all be assembling for a special virtual edition of what will be their 14th Annual Thanksgiving Show on their Twitch channel, twitch.tv/convoyimprov/, on Wed. Nov. 25th at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Forget all the holiday specials that are airing/streaming and get in on an actual Thanksgiving themed show on Thanksgiving Eve.

FYI, they’ll be taking donations for LA Regional Food Bank here, but you can go ahead and donate right now if you’d like.

Pick of the Day: Cameron Esposito: Home for the All-The-Days Thanksgiving Special Edition 11/25

News

Well, it looks as though Thanksgiving is going to be have to done, like almost everything else this year, remotely, if at all. Continuing to be in quarantine/lockdown, it’s very likely that you won’t be able to dig into turkey and fixings with your family or friends like you would in the before times.

Yet, there’s still hope for some Thanksgiving week as Cameron Esposito will be a Thanksgiving Dad to us all with a very special virtual stand-up show with some TBA special guests, presented by Dynasty Typewriter. Esposito’s candor and warmth are the perfect recipe to bring feelings of joy, mirth, and togetherness at a time when those are in short supply.

Cameron Esposito’s Home for the All-The-Days: Thanksgiving Edition is set to stream on Wed. Nov. 25th at 5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET. Tickets are only $10. Go make this Thanksgiving just a little better and get tickets here.

Also, this could be proof-of-concept for a Desus & Mero food review show? Enjoy it here.

Well, It’s Thanksgiving Again, Which Means We’d Like to Once Again Share The Dollop’s Special Thanksgiving Episode

If you’re feeling a bit nihilistic/existentially debilitated on Thanksgiving today, we like to share, once again, The Dollop’s deep dive into the first and much less picturesque second Thanksgiving.

It’s a new Thanksgiving tradition that we happen to really enjoy here at TCB (especially since we’re not fans of the holiday season in general).

Give it a listen/another listen to pair perfectly with today’s nationwide feast here.

It’s a national holiday, which leaves us with little to do here at the offices of The Comedy Bureau (though we are still here for some reason).

(also we’re thankful to all of you that support us so we can support you and, as a whole, make comedy in LA and beyond better)

In any case, join us in our new annual tradition of hearing about the not so nice 2nd Thanksgiving from Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds on The Dollop.

Then, for a dessert/palate cleanser, enjoy a new, sweet trip down memory lane with Rick & Morty’s Mr. Poopybutthole.

May your Thanksgiving be tolerable.

Host and creator of the old MST3K Joel Hodgson and new host Jonah Ray will be going through the marathon together and bring together all sorts of cross sections of MST3K fans and followers of Jonah Ray’s ever-increasing, impressive body of work.

This year’s MST3K Turkey Day Marathon will kick off at 9AM PST on ShoutFactoryTV.com!

Whomever you voted for or whether you voted or not, many Americans are heated at each other, to say the least.

Some time to cool off is definitely needed (even though we all have to come together at some point) and perhaps a Selfsgiving might be a better option for Thanksgiving this year.

Watch Above Average explain what Selfsgiving is here.

Conan O’Brien found that guy in his audience last week and this is what he had to say for himself.

Happy Thanksgiving (we guess?)!!!

When roommates go out of town for a few days, it’s hard to simply say goodbye, or shake hands, or even hug. You live with them and there’s some sort of weird bond, usually, unless you happen to hate each other to each other’s core.

So, Dead Kevin shows how they say goodbye to a roommate leaving for only a few days and maybe you can follow their model, that is if you’re agile enough.
