Richard Linklater Is Making a Bill Hicks Biopic

We bet this will focus a good deal on Hicks coming up in Texas, perhaps specifically at the Comedy Stop in Houston where Hicks made his bones.

This is one of two biopics that Linklater, a filmmaker famous for working in pretty much any genre of film, has in the works. As such, we’re intrigued to see what angle, both story-wise and style-wise, Richard takes.

Richard Linklater’s Next Film Will Be Adapted from Maria Semple’s “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” Starring Cate Blanchett

Richard Linklater’s Next Film Will Be Adapted from Maria Semple’s “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” Starring Cate Blanchett

Following up Everybody Wants Some, Linklater’s next work will continue his thematic focus on the transitioning between stages of life on how complex and, often, funny they can be.

This time, however, the Maria Semple novel he’s adapting from centers around a fiercely independent architect and mother that goes missing all of sudden. With Blanchett starring as the titular Bernadette (as well as a supporting cast of Kristen Wiig, Billy Crudup, and Judy Greer) and Linklater at the helm, we trust that this will undoubtedly be something to look out for.

Richard Linklater Is Making Sequel to Hal Ashby’s The Last Detail with Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Carell

Richard Linklater Is Making Sequel to Hal Ashby’s The Last Detail with Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Carell

Amazon Studios will be footing the bill here and, in doing so, is continuing their push to be a prestige studio.

The Last Detail was a dramedic adaptation of Daryl Ponicsan’s novel of the same name by Hal Ashby back in 1973. Ponicsan wrote a follow-up in 2005 called The Last Flag, which is being adapted now by the very capable hands of Richard Linklater with Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Carell in talks to play the roles originally played by Jack Nicholson, Otis Young, and Randy Quaid.

Those sequel fatigue might be more and more palpable for the big screen, Last Flag Flying might be one sequel worth getting on board for.

Everybody Wants Some, Richard Linklater’s spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused looks like it will be every bit as fun based off this new red band trailer.

On top of whatever you’ve already got concocted for April 1st, you might want to add seeing Everybody Wants Some on its limited release date to the list. The release expands wide on April 8th if you are indeed to busy pulling pranks then.

Jumping from the celebrated grand experiment that was Boyhood, director Richard Linklater is returning to his comedy form with his next offering, Everybody Wants Some.

It may be following a different gang than Dazed and Confused, but you definitely get a vibe of an 80s version of Dazed and Confused (title cards notwithstanding) in this trailer.

Look for Everybody Wants Some in theaters Fri. Apr. 15th.

Richard Linklater’s New Comedy “Everybody Wants Some” to Open SXSW

While there was the Gamergate influenced panel debacle, at least SXSW is kicking off the festivities with something big.

Everybody Wants Some, which has been touted as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, will premiere at the very opening of SXSW. Linklater is going back to the 80s in, fittingly for the festival, Austin, TX and following a college baseball team dealing with growing up.

If ever there’s a director that could make such a premise something amazing, it’ll be Linklater. If you want to catch the premiere at SXSW, free up your March.

Richard Linklater’s Untitled Baseball Comedy That’s a Spiritual Sequel to “Dazed and Confused” Set For Release in Spring 2016

It’ll be out on Apr. 15th, 2016 to be exact.

This highly anticipated next film from modern shapeshifting auteur Richard Linklater is going to be a comedy set in college in such a way that’s a sequel of sorts to Dazed and Confused from over 20 years ago.

While at one point it was called That’s What I’m Talking About, it’s now just an untitled baseball comedy, but we hardly think that’s going to make anyone think twice about going to see it next year.

Richard Linklater Has Just Finished Shooting What Will Be a Sequel of Sorts to Both “Dazed and Confused” and “Boyhood”

Richard Linklater, director of Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight, School of Rock, Slacker, and much more, is no stranger to bridging the gap between genres and being conceptual with his films like no one has before.

It might be eye-catching to read that his latest film “That’s What I’m Talking About” will follow up, in different ways, where Dazed and Confused and Boyhood left off, but it certainly shouldn’t come as a total surprise. The film centers around a college freshman balancing college life (i.e. party, party, party) with being on the college baseball team.

While that’s a little vague, Linklater has done plenty with far less of a premise and we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an “alright, alright, alright”-style line that people endlessly quote from That’s What I’m Talking About.

Nickelodeon Orders a “School of Rock” Series

The rock comedy that had Jack Black as an unorthodox music teacher, School of Rock, is now becoming a TV series at Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon ordered the series from Paramount TV and have yet to attach someone to play Dewey Finn, Jack Black’s character in the movie. Still, Scott Rudin and Richard Linklater, the director of School of Rock, are set to executive produce, which should instill faith as to what might happen with this show.

We’ll see next year when School of Rock the series is set to premiere.

Richard Linklater Looking to Add Jon Hamm, Danny McBride, Key & Peele, and More to Incredible Mr. Limpet

Taking from 1964’s The Incredible Mr. Limpet that had Don Knotts turn into a fish and help hunt Nazi U-boats, director Richard Linklater is going for a remake and lining up a pretty great cast. Zach Galifianakis is attached to play Mr. Limpet, the role Knotts played, and there are no Nazis in this one.

However, Jon Hamm, Sarah Silverman, Danny McBride, Kevin Hart, Josh Gad, Jordan Peele, and Keegan-Michael Key are all in talks to join the cast. With Linklater at the helm and this cast, this might be one of the more fascinating, possibly great remakes in a long time.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Reteam for Richard Linklater’s “Larry’s Kidney”

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Reteam for Richard Linklater’s “Larry’s Kidney”

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis have quite the slate coming up, both individually and together. Already, Galifianakis is going to be in a Ferrell/McKay production, Will, and now, Zach and Ferrell will be co-starring together in a new Richard Linklater film, Larry’s Kidney.

On top of all these great people being attached, the movie is based on a book called Being the True Story of How I Found Myself in China with My Black Sheep Cousin and His Mail-Order Bride, Skirting the Law to Get Him a Transplant–and Save His Life.

So, we’re definitely into this and hope it gets rolling into production soon.
