Reggie Watt’s Question For Will Ferrell on “The Late Late Show”

Uncategorized
james corden, late late show, reggie watts, will ferrell

If this keeps going, this will make for a pretty fun montage or, as the Internet says, supercut.

For how supremely talented and mastered Reggie Watts is, we can’t even imagine all the ways that he could potentially be utilized as the bandleader and a sidekick for The Late Late Show with James Corden.

So far, Reggie asking a question, seemingly off the top of his head, to guests is a great start.

Just check this latest query he posed to Will Ferrell.

OK, if they keep having fun like this at The Late Late Show with James Corden, they’re headed in the right direction.

Utilizing bandleader Reggie Watts for absurdist bits, putting Corden in situations with real folks, and planning some entirely unexpected surprises could be a winning combination for the new Late Late Show.

Just watch this best of DVD bit and Corden deliver pizza around Fairfax.

And “The Late Late Show With James Corden” Begins With a Cool New Set, Clever Segments, and Sincerity

As far as we can tell, James Corden is off to a good start at The Late Late Show.

The premiere episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden aired last night and gave America a good showing of what Corden, bandleader Reggie Watts, and this new era of late night is all about as far they’re concerned.

These two segments of how Corden “got” the Late Late Show host gig and how he runs through this thorough retrospective of Tom Hanks’ career kick the show off to a fun, yet clever premiere.

</p>

Right off the bat, you’ll note the set doesn’t trying to relive some late night talk show sets of yesteryear, but instead is quite dark in its color palate and delightfully all over the place. See the checkered floor that Reggie and his band Karen play on.

Oh yeah, Reggie’s wonderful band is named, for now, Karen according to this interview with The A.V. Club and Reggie will seemingly get to bring some of the Comedy Bang! Bang! flavor to network television as shown by the one question he asked Hanks.

They definitely employ other things that slightly eschew traditional late night tropes like Corden’s monologue leaning more towards his predecessor Craig Ferguson’s style of being in the moment and coming from the heart. James also doesn’t sit behind the desk for the interview, interviewed both Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis at the same time sort of like The Graham Norton Show, and even had slick black cards instead of the traditional light blue that talk show hosts used to stay on point throughout the show.

Of course, this is just the premiere episode and all of this could end up changing, but it’s clear that, whatever happens, James will be completely genuine about it as you can see with his closing ballad.

You can watch the whole premiere here and see it all in its entirety for yourself.

Starting in April, Reggie Watts and The Band He Leads on “The Late Late Show” Will Be Playing El Cid Every Tuesday

So, you’re going to want make sure Tuesday nights are free.

The Late Late Show with James Corden premieres next Monday and with it, bandleader Reggie Watts has transplanted himself to Los Angeles after globetrotting anywhere and everywhere that people wanted to witness the comedic spells he casts.

We discovered last night while watching Reggie and the band for The Late Late Show that part of being transplanted and leading a band will be playing every Tuesday night starting in April (that would be Apr. 7th) at El Cid in Silverlake.

For over an hour, Reggie and his fantastic band  jam and get silly, funky, and spread all sorts of other good vibes. Basically, like we said, you’re probably going to want to go to this a lot.

You can get a taste of that tonight as Reggie and the band are playing El Cid tonight 10PM.

It’s a new era of late night, so it wouldn’t hurt to make sure that every single crevice of the new Late Late Show set sounds pristine.

It’s bits like this that’ll be why the new Late Late Show host James Corden and bandleader Reggie Watts should be having a lot of unabashed silly fun.

The premiere is less than two weeks away on Mon. Mar. 23rd on CBS.

At the beginning of the year, we reported that the very funny Sean O’Connor and Ian Karmel were brought on board to write for the new Late Late Show hosted by James Corden.

As their premiere is less than a month away, they’ve filled the rest of their writing staff.

So, the writers of The Late Late Show with James Corden are:

Mike Gibbons who is the co-creator of Tosh.0
Sean O’Connor
Ian Karmel
James Davis who recently appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly
Lauren Greenberg
Ben Hoffman from The Ben Show
David Dineen-Porter (host of Party of Four podcast)
Nedaa Sweiss
DJ Javerbaum from The Daily Show

So, this bunch makes for a good, wide mix along with Corden and Reggie Watts that has us even more enticed for their debut.

James Corden Wants To Change Up The Traditional Late Night Format With “The Late Late Show”

March 4, 2015
Uncategorized
cbs, james corden, letterman, reggie watts, the late late show

In a recent interview with Variety, the new host of The Late Late Show, James Corden let on a little as to what he might have up his sleeve.

The traditional late night format of monologue, sketch, guest, etc. are going to be “tinkered” with as Corden doesn’t think of himself as a stand-up comedian that could plow through monologue jokes night after night.

Instead, Corden is going to have the inimitable Reggie Watts as his bandleader and plans on focusing in on his acting, singing, and dancing background. On top of that, he also seems to have a very charming sense of self-deprecation.

Being at 12:35AM will allow James to definitely play up Watts spontaneity and we can only hope that he runs in that direction hard and fast.

You should note that the last time a late night host who didn’t have a background in stand-up and could sing and dance and had overwhelming charisma while constantly poking fun at themselves was Conan O’Brien when he started out at Late Night in 1993. Knowing that, we’re looking forward to James Corden taking over on Mar. 23rd more and more.

Also, you can hear about the shade that David Letterman threw at Corden while appearing on The Late Late Show when Regis Philbin was filling in.

While there are still a few missing pieces in the thorough shifting of players around the late night world, there is now one less to try to figure out.

Reggie Watts upcoming departure as bandleader at Comedy Bang! Bang! on IFC for being the bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden really made us rack our brains as to who would fill Reggie’s shoes, sweaters, and hair. However, we no longer need to wonder since recording artist Kid Cudi has been announced as Reggie’s replacement starting July 10th.

If you’re curious what that might be like, here’s Kid Cudi making music with Reggie.

We’re still just over a month away from James Corden and his bandleader Reggie Watts taking over The Late Late Show and we’re curious as to how/what/etc. the show will fit into the realm of late night.

At this point, we’re still unsure, but it would seem in this first promo that James and Reggie will be keep themselves busy on and off the show (as well as having some famous British friends in One Direction right from the get go).

The Late Late Show with James Corden Has Premiere Date Moved and Gets Reggie Watts to Leave Comedy Bang! Bang! To Be Their Bandleader

December 12, 2014
Uncategorized

(via Deadline/@scottaukerman)

Originally, James Corden was supposed to take over The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson on Mar. 9th, but CBS has opted to move the start date two weeks back to Mar. 23rd.

We’re not sure the exact reasoning behind that, but, perhaps, it might have something to do with getting the one and only Reggie Watts, who is the current bandleader on Comedy Bang! Bang! at IFC, to come over to pair up with Corden.

At first, we thought that he might split his time between the two shows like Fred Armisen does at Late Night with Seth Meyers, but Comedy Bang! Bang! host Scott Aukerman confirmed in a series of tweets that Watts will be leaving as his bandleader in the second half of 2015.

Reggie is sticking around thru the first half of 2015, during which he have planned a very fitting goodbye for him.

— Scott Aukerman (@ScottAukerman)

December 12, 2014

Aukerman also added that we all should be listening for shouting in the streets in regards to who the exciting new bandleader for Comedy Bang! Bang! will be soon.

Who will be the new bandleader? I can’t say yet but it’s very exciting. Please listen for newsies shouting on street corners in early 2015.

— Scott Aukerman (@ScottAukerman)

December 12, 2014

On top of all of that, Corden has gotten a team of veteran producers who have run the gamut in late night including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with David Letterman, Last Call with Carson Daly, Lopez Tonight, and more. One of these producers, Mike Gibbons, has even been noted to be the co-creator of Tosh.0.

All of this makes for a much more intriguing beginning to Corden’s start at 12:35AM here in America.
