Craig Robinson’s Mr. Robinson Going to Series at NBC

NBC has just ordered a handful of episodes from Craig Robinson’s pilot Mr. Robinson to air, which, according to the description, sounds a lot like School of Rock as a TV series starring Craig Robinson.

Anyone taking bets for whether they’ll do a parody of the song Mrs. Robinson at some point?

Sasheer Zamata Joins ‘Saturday Night Live’ As New Cast Member

After the wave of criticism of the lack of diversity at SNL, then a sketch making fun of said criticism last year, Lorne Michaels “secretly” auditioned  a group of black female comedians to be cast members.

Yesterday, it was announced that, from that group, Sasheer Zamata will be the newest cast member at Saturday Night Live. We hope that she kills it in her first episode.

Seth Meyers walking from the Saturday Night Live stage to his stage next door might not be the biggest surprise for his first promo of Late Night when he takes over Feb. 25th, but do realize that SNL, Late Night, and The Tonight Show will all be under the same roof.

We’re just saying, get ready for plenty of show crossover bits.

Watch the first promo for Late Night with Seth Meyers here.

After all the talk and announcements, the first official promo for Jimmy Fallon’s start at The Tonight Show is here. Apparently, it’s also going to be called The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon instead of “With”

Let’s all figure out what that means on Feb. 17th.

Seth Meyers Might Have a More Streamlined Version of ‘Late Night’

If you’ve seen Seth Meyers in his tenure at SNL, you can make an educated guess that his taking over Late Night will be more than a little different than Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

According to Meyers in a recent interview, there will be less music and more sketches, which seems to be the new streamlined version of the late night talk show format that networks have been going for (The Pete Holmes Show, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, Nikki and Sara Live).

You’re probably curious as we are to see where Late Night with Seth Meyers will fit in with “@midnight” & Pete Holmes Show just ending along with Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on,

Let Comedy Resolve to Stand Up For Itself in 2014 Like Natasha Leggero

For the sake of several people on the Internet looking for a reason to be outraged, so many comedians were coerced into publicly apologizing last year. Maybe some cases were called for and other ones were certainly blown way out of proportion and taken out of context (a mortal enemy of comedy).

Over a New Year’s Eve special, Natasha Leggero made a joke about American veterans and received a lot of criticism from it, but, thankfully stood up for her joke, which was, as you should hear a lot today, pretty harmless (and pretty great).

We can only hope that more comedians will stand firm with their jokes in 2014 so long as they really aren’t using comedy as a veil for bigotry, which definitely was not the case here.

Jimmy Fallon Doing Best of Late Night Special Before Going to The Tonight Show

On Jan. 5th at 9PM, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will air a special 2 hour “best of” episode chronicling all they’ve done over the last 5 years before Jimmy Fallon takes on his new gig as host of The Tonight Show after The Olympics.

We’d hope this will include all the bits with fake arms or we might think about calling shenanigans.

Nikki Glazer, Julian McCullough, Seth Herzog and More on NBC’s What We Wasted Our Year On

In addition to the New Year’s celebration that NBC will have with Carson Daly, NBC is also having a year end special where comedians Nikki Glaser, Julian McCullough, Seth Herzog, Sherrod Small, and hosted by TV personality Willie Geist presumably go over what was captivated our attention this year and was also a big waste.

What We Wasted Our Year On is on at 9PM EST/6PM PST on NBC tonight  and it might be worth checking out especially in this no man’s land of time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

David Koechner To Create & Star In Variety Sketch Comedy Pilot For NBC

We’re thrilled that NBC has tapped David Koechner for a variety sketch show pilot and we think it’ll inject some much needed vigor and excitement into NBC’s development slate.

However, we’d be curious how this would pair with SNL if this got picked up.

Former NBC Chiefs Courting Leno Post-Tonight Show

There’s been a lot of talk, for years actually, of what will happen to long time host of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno.

Well, as his departure nears in February of 2014, transitioning to Jimmy Fallon, there has been interest in such places like CNN, though it would seem the parties interested seem to all be former NBC chiefs like Jeff Zucker and Jeff Gaspin.

Nothing is set in motion, but it’ll be interesting to see what Leno does if he ends up moving to cable.

Let’s all hope this gets picked up very soon.

‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ Has Staffed Up

With the likes of humorous folks such as Alex Baze, Alison Agosti, John Lutz, and more, we’re starting to have a good feeling about the transition of NBC’s Late Night from Jimmy Fallon to Seth Meyers.

We can’t wait to see what they come up with Post Olympics.

Elliott Gould, Nasim Pedrad, and Seaton Smith Stay On Board ‘Mulaney’

John Mulaney’s “Mulaney” has taken a circuitous road to get where it is now, but, it would appear, that it has managed to stay intact while doing so. Elliot Gould, Nasim Pedrad, and Seaton Smith that were cast in the original pilot over at NBC.

Good move, Fox. Actually, great move.

NBC Orders Comedy Pilot ‘Bad Judge’ From Anne Heche & Gary Sanchez with Kate Walsh

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine doing well enough for a whole season and Steve Carell doing ’Tribeca’ at TBS, Gary Sanchez Productions is getting into this developing trend of comedy procedurals with Kate Walsh starring.

Let’s see how big this trend gets, especially if Brooklyn Nine-Nine really takes off.

Parks and Recreation on NBC 8PM
Ground Floor on TBS 10PM
Eagleheart on Adult Swim 12AM

NBC Reviving ‘Last Comic Standing’ Again

NBC just doesn’t quite want to let go of the stand up comedy competition Last Comic Standing. The reason as to why, we’re not sure. Perhaps, they have some sort of graph that says that stand up has gotten significantly more popular in a target demographic over the last couple of years that Last Comic Standing went off the air or something.

Either way, we are excited to see it come back as the last season put James Adomian, Kurt Metzger, Myq Kaplan, Laurie Kilmartin, Tommy Johnagin, and more on national television.

NBC Orders Maya Rudolph Variety Pilot For Post-Olympics Special

This means simultaneously, after The Olympics, Jimmy Fallon will take over The Tonight Show, Seth Meyers will take over Late Night, and Maya Rudolph will do a variety show special that hopefully, possibly could include her Prince cover band, Princess.

We’re hoping this will top whatever the closing ceremonies are.

So, it looks like there will be plenty to look forward to this season of Community in terms of it going wherever it wants.
