One of the best observational comics around today Andy Sandford got to notch in a late night set on Conan this week.

Watch his succinct, perfectly worded takes on serial killers, Netflix, and other things that are obsessions of the comedy lifestyle here.

Seth Meyers Does an Iffy Bit on “Late Night” and Jack Black Sings Commentary

May 6, 2015
Uncategorized

If only we knew how many jokes we had to go in so many more sketches.

Seth Meyers had a sketch within a sketch last night as he put forth a typical late night desk piece, but then had Jack Black offer up sing-along commentary on how the bit is really going.

The idea may be a little confusing right now, but it’s pretty great.

Watch it here.

Watch Comedian and Volunteer Firefighter Mike Vecchione on Conan

The latest comedian to be featured on Conan also saves lives from burning buildings?

NYC’s Mike Vecchione got to perform stand-up on Conan this week. Throughout the course of his set, not only will you have plenty of guffaws, but you’ll also learn that not all comedians daydream, get inebriated, and go through Netflix.

Some choose to be firefighters when they can like Vecchione.

Watch his set here.

Watch Steve Martin’s Farewell to David Letterman

Just in case you wondering, Steve Martin’s still got it.

Save for some sort of big star studded musical number at the final episode of The Late Show, Steve Martin made his final appearance and chatted with his old pal David Letterman.

He even made a “touching” video tribute to Letterman both in what he has done and what he’ll possibly do.

Martin also had one “final gift” for Dave to remember him by.

While Letterman is gone in less than a month, we hope Martin will continue showing up on late night to do bits.

Watch Phil Hanley on Late Night with Seth Meyers

The ever clever Phil Hanley returns to late night.

Having made his late night stand-up debut on the now defunct Pete Holmes Show, Hanley notches in another late night set with great misdirection every which way he can.

Watch Another On Point Dave Attell Appearance on Conan

Also, Attell apparently lives in LA now.

With his signature black baseball cap, Dave Attell hits joke after joke after joke with almost no dead air when appearing on late night.

This appearance from last night’s Conan is no different.

Watch and enjoy here.

John Cleese on The Legacy of Monty Python’s “Dead Parrot” Sketch

Few other folks outside of Monty Python get to relive their comedy sketches like they do.

While chatting with Seth Meyers last night, John Cleese got to talking about one of Monty Python’s most enduring sketches and how, when they performed it live, it would go a wry in the best way.

You begin to wonder if any other sketch troupe will ever be this big ever again? Maybe Key & Peele?

Hopefully, you’ll agree with us that Emily Heller needs to be in more things more often.

Making the rounds doing stand-up on late night, Emily Heller notched in her latest set at  Late Night with Seth Meyers last night. From feminism to how obsessive a brain can get, she put together a real nice tight 5 minutes.

Nate Bargatze Returned to “The Tonight Show”

It’s no secret that Nate Bargatze is one of Fallon’s favorite comics and you can see why with every set he’s done on Late Night and The Tonight Show including this one from last night.

Bargatze returned to the stage adjacent to Fallon’s desk once more and gave us some insight about how he, and probably many more people if they were being honest, would fare as a time traveler.

Watch his set here and be sure to catch his hour stand-up special Full Time Magic on Comedy Central on May 2nd at midnight.

Jon Stewart Set To Exit “The Daily Show” Aug. 6th

It’s all official now.

This means the last few moves of this new era of late night will be Letterman’s set to exit in May, then Stewart will follow in August presumably with Trevor Noah’s taking the helm soon after, and then Colbert will take over The Late Show in September.

So, maybe just over three months from the start of a shake up?

Watch Comedian and “Acclaimed Rapper” Mark Little Make a Great Late Night Stand Up Debut on Conan

We know it’s April 1st, but Mark Little “isn’t” trying to play us at all when he calls himself a “rapper” and definitely not playing us as a damn funny comedian.

Mark made a spot-on late night stand-up debut on Conan last night sailing smoothly delightfully through jokes into a rap song he’s “famous” for.

Watch his set here and hope he ends up spending more time in the U.S. than in Canada soon.

Oh, the things that are happening on set of Last Man on Earth.

During her interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Kristen Schaal described how challenging and remarkable of a love scene she had to film with Will Forte on Last Man on Earth.

There weren’t any acrobatics, but there something happened that neither Schaal or Forte will forget. Hear it in full detail here.

Late Night with Seth Meyers has some fun with Lena Dunham the same way they did with The Newsroom last year.

Dunham takes on her Girls’ role as Hannah Horvath and sees if the writers’ room at Late Night is a good fit for her. Notice how she wouldn’t be OK with it being the other way around and seeing if she is a good fit with everyone else.

Seaton Smith Makes Late Night Stand Up Debut on “Late Night with Seth Meyers”

Even though Seaton Smith has been on TV more than a few times, it’s about time he got a late night stand-up set in.

Smith made a great first late night stand-up appearance last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

The joy that Seaton has during his set laughing and smiling juxtaposes nicely against discussing black republicans, gay pride parades, and Martin Luther King Jr. sleeping around.

Death, kids, divorce can all be enjoyed together as shown by Dana Gould.

Gould performed last night on Conan and gave us all something to think about in reaching those milestones of having a family, then potentially losing them, and then leaving this mortal coil all while having a good laugh.

Kurt Braunohler Does Stand-Up and Wants National Utensils on “Late Night with Seth Meyers”

Kurt Braunohler took a break from riding on jet skis for charity or making “snow” fall in LA to do some stand-up on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week. If you’re worried that it won’t be a little “out-of-the-box”, worry not as Kurt definitely has a chunk about what utensils we should be using as a country.

With his fourth stand-up set on Conan last night, UK comedian Daniel Sloss has made himself into a bonafide regular on the show. Sloss is one of a rising tide of UK comedians making headway here in The States and we’re glad for it.

Watch this latest set where he’s amazed that his parents are his parents both in the nature and nurture sense.

Right after the finale of Parks and Recreation aired last night, the entire cast as well as co-creator Mike Schur (and a special guest that came to “Jamm” things up) appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to relive all the memories.

Of course, the goodbye, perhaps the last time all of them will be in a room together went as memorable and as in the spirit-of-Parks-and-Rec as it could be.

There was a barely rehearsed song for Seth Meyers.

There were toasts from one cast member to another one picked from a hat.

There was even another song that was supposed to be a final rendetion of “Bye, Bye Li’l Sebastian”, but Jim O’Heir, Aubrey Plaza, and Jon Glaser had other plans.

Last night, he got to make his TV debut performing on Conan and while it may very well be the first late night stand-up set in the U.S. from an openly gay immigrant, you should watch it because it’s pretty great.

Andy Kindler Is Still One of The Most Fun, Loose Comedians in Late Night

February 7, 2015
Uncategorized
andy kindler, cbs, late night, late show, letterman, stand up

Most performances by stand-up comedians on late night programs are rehearsed word-for-word and vetted in a similar fashion by the show and the network. The result is a highly polished display of jokes, one right after the other, timed out, usually, to be exactly 5 minutes.  When you go see those comedians live, it’s usually a little more visceral, livelier, intimate, and personal.

Andy Kindler manages to do a tight set and still pull off being completely himself on late night. Andy is one of the few comedians that takes the national spotlight of a late night talk show to not only do his jokes, but give his signature commentary in between those jokes, which doesn’t seem rehearsed or vetted, but, instead freewheeling and so much fun.

His set from Letterman last night is another perfect example amidst a big pile of perfect examples of this. Note that he also ends right at 5:00.
