The Daily Show Does a Montage of Jon Stewart Admitting He Hasn’t Seen The Movie or Read The Book

Did you know that you could still pull off an entertaining interview not having read the book or watched the movie of the person you’re interviewing on national television?

It’s best, however, if you’re Jon Stewart.

The latest Daily Show tribute montage to Stewart relives every one of these awkward moment that Jon seemingly created on purpose.

The Tributes to Jon Stewart Are Starting with Melissa McCarthy’s Kimono and a Montage of Stewart Making Noises

While the Aug. 6th exit of Jon Stewart from The Daily Show is more than few weeks away, we all can’t but help feel the ever approaching of an era ending.

So, with that in mind, the esteemed tributes to comedy/TV/entertainment/political satire legend Jon Stewart have started.

So far, Melissa McCarthy wore a robe with different Jon Stewart faces printed on it and a collection of Jon’s best exclamations, exasperations, and all around noises was made.

It’s a pretty fitting start to the farewells if you ask us.

In this new promo, Comedy Central announced the date of Trevor Noah taking the reins to the cornerstone franchise known as The Daily Show.

Trevor’s first episode as the host of The Daily Show will be on Sept. 28th, just under two months after Jon Stewart tapes his finale episode. It’s also almost three weeks after The Late Show With Stephen Colbert starts.

So, as we get ready for the coming of fall, also get ready for a new Daily Show that has a host that’s ditching dress shoes for sneakers in the promo.

In His Spare Time, Jon Stewart Has Been Helping Veterans Break Into The TV Business

(via NY Times)

When Stewart departs from The Daily Show this Summer, he’ll have even more time to do amazing stuff like this.

For awhile now, Jon Stewart has been secretly running a program through The Daily Show that’s designed to teach veterans the ins and outs of working in television. Vets have gone on from the program to not only work on The Daily Show, but elsewhere as producers and other behind-the-scenes positions.

Coupled with directing the highly underrated Rosewater, Stewart should be up for some sort of humanitarian prize.

The Daily Show is off next week, so Jon Stewart paid his respect to David Letterman last night before Dave leaves The Late Show.

There were touching parting words from Jon and a clip from one of Letterman as a guest on The Jon Stewart Show.

If you don’t want to get into podcasts, but are still into the history of comedy and pulling back its curtain, Inside Comedy is a good place to go.

Last night, Inside Comedy with David Steinberg returned to Showtime, kicking off another round off in-depth exploratory interviews about the inner workings of individual comedians.

Just check Steinberg chatting with Stephen Colbert, Dan Akyroyd…

…Jon Stewart…

…and Michael Keaton (yes, Michael Keaton used to do stand-up).

If you dug all of these, be sure to catch Inside Comedy on Tuesdays at 11PM on Showtime.

Jeff Garlin Offers Jon Stewart a Post “Daily Show” Gig

The running gag of any long time host leaving their show is what they’re going to do afterwards as if they don’t have any sort of money whatsoever to fall back on for awhile.

Jeff Garlin picks up that torch here.

After some clever anti-promotion promotion for his TV show, The Goldbergs, Garlin spent the majority of his interview on last night’s Daily Show offering one of his best friends, Jon Stewart, a spot on his aforementioned show.

The offer, however, isn’t to play one of The Goldbergs. Watch it all here.

Jon Stewart Set To Exit “The Daily Show” Aug. 6th

It’s all official now.

This means the last few moves of this new era of late night will be Letterman’s set to exit in May, then Stewart will follow in August presumably with Trevor Noah’s taking the helm soon after, and then Colbert will take over The Late Show in September.

So, maybe just over three months from the start of a shake up?

Jon Stewart Expounds on Why He’s Leaving “The Daily Show”

Through a few chats with The Guardian’s Hadley Freeman, Jon Stewart gives his two cents and then some why he’s leaving the show that has become a cornerstone for so many people for well over a decade.

In his own words, he explains, “It’s not like I thought the show wasn’t working any more, or that I didn’t now how to do it. It was more, ‘Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction.”

While Stewart has built himself and The Daily Show into the sort of legendary groundbreaking institution that Saturday Night Live once was revered for being, it’s a lot to ask of anyone to keep that up even for a few years, save 16.

Freeman finds that Stewart is leaving The Daily Show while it’s still humming along quite nicely so he can do other things besides watch Fox News and go through commenting on another election year.

One should note that, on top of Stewart’s exit, nearly all the most senior regular correspondents are leaving, which means that The Daily Show, this year, will be almost look entirely new with Trevor Noah as host and Hasan Minhaj, Jordan Klepper, and Jessica Williams as the day-in-day out correspondents.

Though it might not be a shake-up that some are looking for in late night, it will be a shake-up nonetheless, which we’re more than ready for.

The 4th Season of “Inside Comedy” Set For May 5h

Conan O’Brien and Jon Stewart are also set to be profiled and interviewed on the show.

Already, host David Steinberg is setting to chat one-on-one with Stephen Colbert, Michael Keaton, and Dan Aykroyd about comedy in the 4th season of Showtime’s Inside Comedy.

Both late night heavyweights O’Brien and Stewart should make for a pretty interesting season especially given how in-depth Steinberg gets with his interviews and now that the next era of late night has been pretty much set and off to its start.

Check out the season premiere on May 5th.

Will Ferrell Gives Some “Sage” Advice to Jon Stewart on Leaving “The Daily Show”

We guess this is only a preview to what sort of hijinks will happen when Jon Stewart actually leaves The Daily Show.

Will Ferrell stopped by The Daily Show last night and gave some “tough love” to Stewart regarding ending his run on the show.

Also, for some reason, Will, following his Little Debbie and St. Patrick’s Day get ups, is just in a t-shirt covered in Zach Galifianakis’ face.

Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer Really Take Being on “The Daily Show” All In

It’s very clear that one of Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer’s dreams was to be on The Daily Show as a guest chatting it up with Jon Stewart.

What the Broad City duo wasn’t counting on is the well deserved compliments from Stewart at the top of the interview. You can see throughout the whole segment that there is a very blurred line between Abbi and Ilana on the show and who they are in real life.

Last night’s Night of Too Many Stars on Comedy Central was one wild, raucous, probably NSFW ride all in support of autism programs.

Such things as Louis C.K. taking an auction winner to take a bow at a Broadway play they weren’t in and Sarah Silverman confronting other auction winners like she would confront her parents all really happened.

Though the special is over, you can still support the charity via donation here or through entering into contests to win tickets to the last taping of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, tickets to The Roast of Justin Beiber, having a Vine video directed by Judd Apatow, be drawn into The Simpsons, or have a White Castle slider named after you.

If you were honest with yourself, you’d probably just pay and enter these contests without supporting any charity, so get on donating/entering now.

Help Finish Documentary About Bassem Youssef “Tickling Giants”

Oft referred to as the Egyptian Jon Stewart, Bassem Youssef hosted a hit satirical news show in Egypt called Al Bernameg. However, as free speech seems to be more limited over there than it is here, Youssef ran into problems when poking fun at those in power.

A documentary is being made about his trials and tribulations in trying to pull off what he pulled off called Tickling Giants. They’re looking to crowdfund $150,000 on Indiegogo by Mar. 10th. As of this post, they have raised $47,827.

If you donate $20, you’ll get a digital download of the movie, but, in general, any amount donated to this project is definitely going to a good cause for both comedy and free speech.

Jessica Williams Says She Won’t Be Hosting “The Daily Show”

After the announcement of Jon Stewart’s upcoming retirement as host of The Daily Show, there was, as was to be expected, rampant speculation about who would replace Stewart. There were a good deal of folks that cast their votes immediately for current Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams to fill the role. The idea was furthered by the upcoming movie Hot Tub Machine 2 depicting her as the host in the not so distant future.

However, last night, Williams expressed her appreciation for the sentiments, but also stated that she won’t be hosting The Daily Show following Jon’s exit.

In her own words, she tweeted:

Fact 1: I’m not hosting. Thank you but I am extremely under-qualified for the job! At this age (25) if something happens politically that I don’t agree with, I need to go to my room & like not come out for, like, 7 days. That being said I am super not right for it, but there are quite a few people who are! Can’t wait to stick around & see what happens.

So, you can take off one picture off all of your bulletin boards of potential Daily Show replacements that you all obviously have right now.

Jon Stewart Officially Announces His Retirement, Sometime This Year, From The Daily Show

February 11, 2015
Uncategorized
announcement, exit, jon stewart, the daily show

It was announced via press release yesterday and word of mouth that Jon Stewart will retire from The Daily Show at some point this year.

Jon made his official announcement and the beginning of a long, sincere goodbye at the end of last night’s Daily Show. He offered some comforting words for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart-faithful that have followed him for the last 17 years including “I’m not going anywhere tomorrow,” and, “This show doesn’t deserve an even slightly restless host and neither do you.”

He also said that he’s unsure of an exact timeline and only giving the months of July, September, or December as potential months when he might leave. Obviously, Comedy Central would want him to stick around as long as possible and get more time to find a replacement, transition them into being a host, and promote them as much as they can as to minimize drop off, if any, in The Daily Show’s viewership.

Even though they don’t compete against The Late Show or The Late Late Show in time slot, it should be noted in regards to figuring out when Stewart might end his rn that David Letterman’s exit comes in May, Colbert comes in September, and James Corden takes over The Late Late Show next month.

Jon Stewart Set to Leave “The Daily Show” Later This Year

Comedy Central just sent out this press release out that the Jon Stewart who has arguably been one of their biggest stars is leaving his post at the The Daily Show later this year. His departure will come after years of delivering such a great satiric angle on the news that other pundits at actual news programs would reference his take on the news as a talking point as well as fostering The Colbert Report and The Nightly Show.

Of course, this leaves The Daily Show desk vacant and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in unsure territory with their lead-in. Had this been a year or two earlier, maybe the desk would have gone to Stephen Colbert or John Oliver, but now, a name doesn’t immediately come to mind fill in Stewart’s giant shoes. Also, bumping Larry Wilmore later this year would seem very unorthodox and unlikely, though weirder things have happened in the world of late night.

However, Comedy Central has another chance to continue their streak of bold, groundbreaking programming over the last few years. While the chances of hiring another great, established white male comedian, someone like Norm MacDonald perhaps, are high, Comedy Central would definitely have an audience rallying behind them if they went a different direction and hired someone who wasn’t another white guy like Fallon, Kimmel, Conan, Corden, Hardwick, Meyers, and most of the recent fill-in hosts of The Late Late Show.

The bigger issue here is finding someone that Stewart’s fans can get behind that is somehow free or can free themselves up to take on the year round commitment of The Daily Show. While it would be perhaps great if Tina Fey and Amy Poehler could co-host like they did in the great three-year run at The Golden Globes or like they did at SNL’s Weekend Update, they both have overall deals, star in a multitude of projects amongst a whole other multitude of things they take on.

So, for now, we’ll be reminiscing about our favorite Jon Stewart moments over the years.

Jon Stewart Admits One Factual Error on The Daily Show While Various Pundits/D.A’s Let Stewart Have It

Jon Stewart makes fun of how the news is reported four nights a week on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. As The Daily Show does routinely grill various newscasters, pundits, etc. on a nightly basis, it would be natural for them to want to grill Stewart on anything that they can.

So, when a District Attorney from San Bernardino County pointed out one factual error by Stewart on a segment on Ferguson, Fox News and the like had a field day.

Last night, Stewart admitted, on air, that he was wrong, but also pointed out that the field day that pundits were having on Stewart steered the conversation away from questioning the methods of the police and the lack of oversight on that,

Jon Stewart’s directorial debut with Rosewater opens today and, as you could imagine, he used last night’s episode of The Daily Show to promote it.

With that being the case, Stewart felt it would be tasteless to be also promoting while hosting. So, he was just in luck that one John Oliver, who has had filled in for him before, had just wrapped season one of Last Week Tonight at HBO and was free to fill in.

Watch Oliver sit once more at The Daily Show desk right here.
