News
dynasty typewriter, high and mighty, improv, jon gabrus, thanksgiving

Halloween is done and dusted and we’re on to the thick of the holiday season with Thanksgiving approaching fast. That actually means a lot of things for comedy, but one of the main things is Jon Gabrus’ annual High and Mighty: Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour, a true blue hour of 6 friends doing 60 shots of beer each and then letting the most hysterical Turkey Day ridiculousness unravels on stage.

This 2023 edition will be the 9th year that Gabrus and company endeavor on downing a lot of brew in just an hour’s time and will be doing so in the lovely walls of Dynasty Typewriter on Wed. Nov. 22nd at 7:30PM. It’s such a rip roaring good time that a livestream will be available as well (7:30PM PT/10:30PM ET). In-person tickets for Jon Gabrus’ annual High and Mighty: Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour are $20 and live-stream are $15 and you can (and should) go start in on the holiday gift buying by snagging a pair here.

While the pandemic does have us all stuck at home, that does not actually stop any and all of us from getting blazed. Well, maybe it’s a little harder if it’s not entirely legal or decriminalized where you live and for that, we’re truly sorry and we hope that changes very, very soon.

That said, the hysterical Jon Gabrus is going to celebrate this very special 4/20 in 2021 via The High & Mighty podcast with the very first High & Mighty 4/20 Mega Sesh that ought to be a grand ol’ time of cannabis-fueled hijinks and riff seshes with many of the best and your favorite funny folks.

That will include:

Abdullah Saeed & David Bienenstock (Great Moments in Weed History)
John Flynn & Mark Rennie (Two Old Queens)
Mike Glazer & Mary Jane (Weed + Grub)
Ry Prichard (@CannibasEncyclopedia)
Gilli Nissim (We’re Gross w Gilli)
Shaun Diston (The Church of Shaun Diston)
Matt Besser (improv4Humans)
Miles Gray (The Daily Zeitgeist)

Sounds more than chill, right? Of course it does. High & Mighty 1st Annual 4/20 Mega Sesh goes live on Tues. Apr. 20th at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets are only $10 and you need to go snatch them up here.

Pick of the Day: Valentine’s with Yassir 2/12

Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of great choices for comedy live-streams for this Valentine’s Day weekend. Even though that’s the case, one of the best line-ups just also happens to be a fundraiser for a crucial LA City Council.

Truly progressive candidate Al Corado is running to unseat District 13 incumbent Mitch O’Farrell on a platform of defunding the police, housing all unhoused people in Los Angeles, and in a Green New Deal. To raise money for his campaign, the hysterical and one of the all-time-best on Twitter Yassir Lester will be leading of a stellar line-up of:

Blair Socci
Atsuko Okatsuka
Adam Pally
Paul Scheer
Jon Gabrus
Garrick Bernard
Madison Shepard
Chris Garcia
Christina Catherine Martinez
Chelsea Devantez

See how stacked that is? If you’re going in on one comedy live-stream this weekend, this should be one of your top choices if not your top choices.

Valentine’s with Yassir is set for Fri. Feb. 12th at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Tickets start at $5 and go up to $500+. Go get tickets here.

Pick of the Day: 6th Annual High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour 11/25

The annual tradition of Jon Gabrus doing a power hour live on stage with friends is one of the few things that we look forward to Thanksgiving week. Normally, we’d get to see the madness take place on stage and secrets and wild things run amok during the whole time.

As a stage show can’t happen in a proper venue, Gabrus will be doing this year’s High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour virtually and we have no doubt they’ll revel in the chaos of taking a shot of beer every minute for an hour just as much as they have in years past. Joining Gabrus for this Sixth Annual (and first virtual) Power Hour will be Mano Agapion (Drag Her!), Nicole Byer (Why Won’t You Date Me?), Mike Mitchell (Doughboys), Betsy Sodaro (A Funny Feeling), and Nick Wiger (Doughboys).

Also, this year’s show will be donating proceeds to a great org, The Okra Project.

High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour is set for Wed. Nov. 25th at 6PM PT/9PM ET (you’ll be able to watch the live-stream up until Sun. 11/29 at midnight). Tickets are $10 and you can and very much should get them here.

Pick of the Day: ASSSSCAT for Charity 5/1-5/2

ASSSSCAT, the marquee show for the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres across the country, is returning to do their signature long form improv show via a YouTube live-stream over four different shows this weekend for four separate worthy charities.

No matter where or when ASSSSCAT was happening, it was always sold out back when it happened in person. For this special charity, live-stream edition, you will have to get your chance to see UCB’s best without having worry about buying tickets weeks in advance or standing hours in a line. Also, it’s heartening to see ASSSSCAT is back after the closures of UCB Hell’s Kitchen and the NYC training center.

The teams, as you can see below, makes for a star studded affair. All of the founding UCB 4 (Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts)  are slated to perform throughout the four shows in addition to Bobby Moynihan, Ego Nwodim, D’Arcy Carden, Lauren Lapkus, Carl Tart, Seth Morris, Andy Daly, Lennon Parham, Jessica St. Clair, Sean Conroy, Eugene Cordero, Anthony Atamanuik, Jon Gabrus, John Gemberling, and so much more.

The four shows happening on Fri. May 1st & Sat. May 2nd will be dedicated to raising funds for Frontline Responders Fund, Project C.U.R.E., NYC Mayor’s Fund: Food For Heroes, and LA COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

By the way, they’re all scheduled out so you’ll be able to watch them all. Tune in May 1st & May 2nd at both 5PM PT/8PM ET & 8PM PT/11PM ET on UCB’s YouTube channel here.

Gayme Show Trailer Give You Your First Look at One Hell of a Game Show That’s Coming to Quibi

Exquisite hosting duo Matt Rogers and Dave Mizzoni have spent years fine tuning their amazing game show extravaganza, Gayme Show. Essentially, two straight male comedians compete in challenges that test the depth of their LGBTQ knowledge to be crowned Gay as F*ck. Of the comedic game shows that we’ve seen up close, this is one of the best, most entertaining, dazzling ones we’ve ever seen.

So, not only is Gayme Show deserving to be made into a TV show, which it will be on Quibi, but it is undoubtedly one of the shows we’re most looking forward to on the mobile streaming service that’s finally arriving next month.

For this version, you ought to know that guests and judges for Gayme Show include Ilana Glazer, Rachel Bloom, Darcy Carden, Jon Gabrus, John Gemberling, Joel Kim Booster.

See and enjoy just a taste of all of this with Gayme Show’s trailer here.

This is one of the more insane things you’ll see all year long as Jon Gabrus and guests do an actual power hour on stage as an annual special edition of his High and Mighty podcast done live on stage. The 60 shots of beer taken every minute on the minute provide for truly unforgettable moments that will you get through Thanksgiving (if that’s a thing you’re dreading).

Go get tickets for the High and Mighty LIVE Power Hour at UCB Sunset on Nov. 27th before they sell out here.

The show where comedians try to out compliment each other is back!

Boast Rattle, perhaps one of the more positivity driven comedy shows that there is, has its latest edition coming this week at Dynasty Typewriter and, per usual, it will be a doozy.

Tickets are $10 online (and $15 at door). Save some clams and get your tickets right now right here.

The inaugural edition of this show was so much damn fun. If you thought that comedians playing very bad video games was a winning formula, you were right on.

Again, Mike Drucker put together another great line-up that will play and riff through some of the worst of the worst in the video game canon.

Tickets are $10, but you can enter to win free tickets via our friends at DoLA.

Fox Developing Spy Comedy From Adam Pally and Paul Lieberstein

(via Deadline)

Peter from The Mindy Project and Toby from The Office are working on a spy comedy.

Fox’s latest addition to their comedy development slate will be a spy comedy from Adam Pally and Paul Lieberstein, written by Paul and Jon Gabrus. There aren’t much details as of right now, but the possibility of Gabrus starring makes us think of something along the lines of Paul Feig’s Spy.
