We’re not going to tell you to drop what you’re doing and watch the very first episode of the highly anticipated IFC series ’Maron’ based around the life of comedian/podcast kingpin Marc Maron, but are you really not going to do that?

Chris Gethard to Live Tweet ‘Lethal Weapon’ Tonight on IFC
Another great example of two things we love brought together by IFC. This will be happening at 8PM on IFC, but we’re guessing Gethard will be live tweeting at 5PM PST.
IFC announced today their latest additions to their development slate featuring 3 pilots and 8 scripts, which, from the looks of it, might make for one hell of a comedy channel.
Projects include as said above a Garfunkel and Oates pilot, scripts from Matt Besser, Rob Schrab, Megan Mullally, Chris Gethard, Tom Scharpling, Kyle Dunnigan, and more AND that stop motion animation Dynasty parody pilot featuring voice talents of Maria Bamford, Nick Kroll, Mike O’Connell, and more.
Basically, this is pretty great IFC.
Illeana Douglas, Dave Foley, Anthony Jeselnik, Andy Kindler, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, and more show up in this latest trailer for IFC’s, and TV’s for that matter, highly anticipated series Maron, which will not only be Marc Maron’s first series, but one of the first television shows about podcasting.

Slowly, but surely the teasers/trailers have been getting longer for Marc Maron’s upcoming series on IFC “Maron”. You definitely get a better sense of the show which is largely based on his success from his podcast and features great cameos from Denis Leary, Illeana Douglas, Erik Charles Nielsen, and more.

You figure that Comedy Bang Bang, Maron, The Birthday Boys show produced by Bob Odenkirk, Will Ferrell’s “Spoils of Babylon”, and more are more or less based out in LA and this makes sense.
The comedy community in Los Angeles will surely be happy.

We’d bet that you wouldn’t be completely surprised that Maron’s new IFC series would have the likes of Dave Foley, Bobcat Goldthwait, Jeff Garlin, Denis Leary, Aubrey Plaza, Ken Jeong, and more as guest stars. Either way, get excited for May 3rd.

Our apologies for missing this yesterday when we posted about the Birthday Boys series getting picked up. Anyhow, IFC is building quite the arsenal in regards to comedy programming and just might be able to stand toe to toe with any other comedy cable channel really soon.

IFC really stepped up its programming with comedy over the last couple of years with Portlandia, Comedy Bang Bang, Maron, and now this Birthday Boys series. A few more shows and they’ll be a really fantastic comedy channel, which very well might be on the way.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards Winners This Year Are More to Our Liking Than The Oscars
Though the winners of The Oscars have yet to be announced, the winners of The Film Independent Spirit Awards last night are much more up our alley with the nuanced, dark, and/or weird romantic comedies that took home awards.
Silver Linings Playbook took Best Feature, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Screenplay (David O. Russell), Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence) AND both Safety Not Guaranteed (Best First Screenplay, Derek Connolly) and The Sessions (Best Male Lead, John Hawkes/Best Supporting Female Lead, Helen Hunt).
1) Comedian Barry Rothbart on national TV… again. After appearing frequently on national commercials for Taco Bell, web series “Do Whatever”, in which he stars, is set to air on IFC soon.

Taking a cue from Vic of the IFC series the Business, it’s an all(?) Jewish edition of the Mostly Normal Show.

THE COMEDY BUREAU
1) In regards to Huffington Post’s “50 Funniest People of the Decade”, do those in charge of “informing” the public on “what is comedy” even know what comedy is anymore? Within their end-all, be all list for 2001-2010, they, first off, include Anderson Cooper, a strict journalist. Out of entire 10 years of comedy, the Huffington Post Comedy Staff actually decided to put the names Anderson Cooper amongst names like Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin, Conan O’Brien, and Paul F. Tompkins, which can only leave me to draw the conclusion that, like so many other “Best/Most Ever” lists, this is more of a popularity contest. Just like winning the Grammy for “Best Hip Hop Artist” has no actual bearing on talent so much as it does Soundscan’s numbers on someone’s shitty, air-horn laden, drenched-in-autotune single, being put on this particular list of who were the funniest people in the last ten years doesn’t necessarily indicate that the person “defined comedy” in that time (which is what the name of the list leads readers to believe). I understand that compiling such lists are incredibly stressful and time-consuming as I spent nearly three solid hours composing #Follow2011LAfunniest, a list of who you should follow on Twitter in 2011 (which is way better than Huffington Post version, if I may say so myself). There is a constant debate, even with only one person calling the shots, in trying to decide who makes the cut, but, you have to be objective as possible with what you’re compiling the list for. Thus, Huffington Post should have made “The 50 Funniest People that I Happen To Know About and/or Are Really Popular” to be more accurate. That’s why #Follow2011LAfunniest has people that may not have as many followers as @azizansari, but are consistently funnier than him along their entire log of Tweets. Several people are surprised with omissions of this Huffington Post list considering they are comedians/writers that are much funnier than the one’s featured. However, in deciphering what that list is really based on, I’m surprised that names omitted include Larry King and Russell Peters.
