Pick of the Day: Good Heroin NYC 4/11

Looks like NYC is going to get some Good Heroin!

Good Heroin has been one of LA’s longest running weekly shows, a haven for indie comedy nestled in the back patio of the charming Stories Books & Cafe in Echo Park every Saturday night. Dave Ross and Matt Ingebretson founded the show years and years ago and gathered quite the following for one hell of a weekly stand-up show. Matt moved on to write and produce amazing, critically acclaimed TV (Corporate and This Fool) and Dave moved to NYC and the show in LA is under the more than capable hosting hands of Lindsay Adams and Rob Haze same place, every Saturday at 7PM.

As Dave has rooted himself in NYC over the last few years, he’s aiming to give NYC it’s very own Good Heroin that will be at an equally charming and kitschy venue, an instrument store called Main Drag Music in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Per usual, Dave is going to have wondrous co-hosts in Julian McCullough and Natalie Norman as well as very, VERY, VERY stacked inaugural line-up including:

Sydnee Washington @justsydbw (Don’t Tell Comedy, Comedy Central’s Up Next)
Dan Soder @dansoder (The Standups on Netflix’s)
Rosebud Baker @rosebudbaker (Netflix’s, SNL)
Andy Haynes @imandyhaynes (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Comedy Central’s Roast Battle)
Courtney Maginnis @courtneymaginnis (Comedy Central, College Humor)
Petey DeAbreu @pdeezjokes (Comedy Central’s ClusterFest)

This very first Good Heroin NYC is set for Thurs. Apr. 4th at 8PM. Tickets are $17.85 and you better snag them up quick before they inevitably sell out right here. Also, do yourself a favor and keep up with @goodheroinnyc on IG.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 23: Carmen Morales & Important Distractions

To pull of a live-stream stand-up show is hard just as it. To do it consistently and charge and have a dedicated audience that’s willing to pay in an unprecedented time of economic fallout is truly amazing. That’s what Carmen Morales has done with her recurring live-stream Zoom stand-up show, Social D. Carmen zooms with TCB’s Jake Kroeger to see how she pulled it off and really disproves that comedy is dead right now (it’s just different). Also, “hot” takes on Jim Gaffigan’s rant against the RNC and Ayo Edebiri replacing Jenny Slate as voice of Missy on Big Mouth.

You can follow Carmen at carmenmorales.com and @thefunnycarmen across socials and listen to her podcast No Sir Pod.

Good Heroin Is Now a Podcast

Just to be clear, you can’t get actually get any sort of heroin in podcast form. However, you can get a taste of one of LA comedy’s favorite shows was like on a new weekly podcast.

One of the great weekly joys in the LA comedy scene was venturing down to Stories in Echo Park on a Saturday night to pack tightly into the back patio, spilling out into the parking lot, just to see one of LA’s best indie shows, Good Heroin. Hosts Dave Ross and Matt Ingebretson corralled a stacked line-up every week and put up a wall-to-wall great stand-up show in one of the more alluring, inviting bookstore/cafe patios the city has to offer.

Since it’s unclear when that version of Good Heroin will get to return (it got so packed that there was almost no way you could social distance and safely have that show with how it used to be done), Dave has opted to adapt Good Heroin into podcast that, a la the live show, features bits and clips of stand-up as well as interviews and more clever shenanigans that the format of a podcast allows. If you can imagine being at Stories (if you’re in LA, they are open for you to support FYI), you can get a sense of the wondrous rambunctiousness that was had every Saturday night for years.

Ross already has a few episodes up featuring the likes of Debra DiGiovanni, Sammy Arechar, Kevin Camia, Alex Edelman, Hannah Einbinder, Chris Charpentier, Matt Ingebretson, and Zahid Dewji. Get into, subscribe, etc. Good Heroin with Dave Ross here: goodheroin.buzzsprout.com/
