Pick of the Day 5/5/25: The Frogtown Show 9th Anniversary 5/10

Nothing quite like an anniversary for a wondrous monthly show to remind you of the illusory passage of time, right?

The Frogtown Show has been going strong for 9 years as monthly comedy institution, which means surviving the pandemic and the aftermath of it as well as those historic fires in January. Emily Maya Mills, Erin Lennox, and Jared Goldstein are still at the helm of this fixture at one of LA’s treasured watering holes/gastropubs/bike shops/coffee shops, the pretty much magical gem that is Spoke Bicycle Cafe.

To mark the occasion, The Frogtown Show’s 9 Year Anniversary show will have a truly marvelous line-up of LA comedy stalwarts across many generations including Andy Kindler, Rachel Kaly, Curtis Cook, Brooks Wheelan, and Lorena Russi.

All they ask for is a $10 suggested donation! Have a lovely Saturday night by the beautiful part of the LA River and catch the 9th Anniversary of The Frogtown Show (and keep coming back every 2nd Saturday).

Los Feliz: The Podcast (yes, the Los Feliz neighborhood has its own lovely podcast hosted by the funny duo of Morgan Murphy and Kevin Christy) is doing a special live taping across neighborhood lines in Frogtown.

In fact, the lovely Frogtown Show will be hosting them in the beautiful Spoke Bicycle Cafe in order to raise money for Friends Of the LA River (FOLAR). So, they’ll be doing inter-eastside chat, stand-up, and more (with a pretty damn fine line-up too as you can clearly see above).

Donations are accepted, but you can guarantee a seat in advance for $25. Get more details here.

At one of LA’s hippest venues Zebulon, performance artist/comedian Dynasty Handbag has been curating a hosting one of their, in our opinion, marquee nights with Weirdo Night! for two years (though it has been running a bit longer than that around town).

This transformative and hilarious evening collects all sorts of performers that are in or adjacent to comedy, bringing in a wonderfully bizarre collection of multi-disciplinary performers, magical musicians, and all other artists that defy categorization in a great way.

For their 2 Yr. Zebulon Anniversary this Sunday, they’ve got a line-up of Kate Berlant, Malik Gaines, Amelia Bande, Charles Galin, and, of course, Dynasty Handbag (Jibz Cameron).

Tickets are $15 and you can go get them right now right here.

Josh Fadem and Brent Weinbach, two comedians that are mastered in the art of being silly, will “lead” a “forum” on art. We’re not sure exactly how that’ll manifest, but we’re excited for whatever that will end up being.

Also, Ron Funches and Dan Mintz from Bob’s Burgers are just a few of their guests.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Running an indie show here in LA from a non-traditional venue is hard enough to do and pulling it off for a year is definitely impressive.

So, give some love to The Frogtown Show celebrating their one year anniversary of offering live comedy under the lovely LA sky and in the back patio of a great vintage store, The Left Bank.

Also, the line-up is pretty damn solid. Get more details here.
