Nikki Glaser Is Going to Become One of the First Comedians to Have a Reality Series About Her Life with “Welcome Home Nikki Glaser?”

For all the bits about reality television that comedians have done over the years, rare is the chance that comedians themselves have actually gotten the experience of being in on anything like the Real Housewives or Vanderpump Rules. Yes, there has been Last Comic Standing, which, in its first few seasons, had all the finalist comedians living in a house together and deal with one another Big Brother style and Nikki herself was the spicy host of HBO Max’s FBoy Island. Nothing else categorized as a reality series for the lives of comedians has been done as of yet.

That’s all going to change with Nikki Glaser.

Nikki Glaser, someone who has risen from the ranks of Last Comic Standing to a pre-eminent roaster and a very funny national touring headliner, is going to get a reality show solely focused on her life. Specifically, Welcome Home Nikki Glaser will follow Nikki moving back, a move that happened during the pandemic, to St. Louis, where she grew up. Glaser’s leaving Hollywood for her hometown is almost like a sitcom unto itself, but Glaser is breaking new ground by having it be a full on reality TV show rather than a run of the mill multi-cam sitcom.

What that will look like, how much will Glaser be doing bits as a part of the reality TV artifice, and how much of this will be a comedy versus a reality TV show like Keeping Up with the Kardashians has yet to be revealed for the upcoming E! series. Still, Glaser is going where, pretty much, only Kevin Hart has gone (with his “tell-all” docu-series Don’t F*ck This Up) at this point in comedy history.

Look for Welcome Home Nikki Glaser on May 1st on E! In the meantime, watch Nikki tell you all about the show herself here while roasting E./E!.

With the very funny Julian McCullough and Annie Lederman at the reins of E!’s new pop culture debate show, We Have Issues, you might want to carve out time at 10:30PM tonight to check out the premiere.

If you’re worried this was going to cut into your going out and drinking time tonight, we’re sure you could work in a drinking game while watching a show where people argue over pop culture.

Glad to see that E! is employing comedians like Julian and Annie and doing so in other arenas besides Fashion Police.

Starting next month, both Julian McCullough and Annie Lederman will hash it out weekly on Fridays in a pop culture debate series, “We Have Issues”.

The new show on E! is set to premiere on Sept. 18th at 10:30PM.

We’re not sure of the exact format, but we hope the panel debates are along the lines of The Nightly Show or Tough Crowd.

“The Grace Helbig Show” Will Forego Traditional Talk Show Couch and More

March 12, 2015

The talk show tradition has been firmly established on American television and part of that tradition is having a couch or couches where a host and a guest can chat intimately in front of a live audience.

The Grace Helbig Show, that’s coming soon to E!, is going to forget about that and go, based on this promo, for something that’s more akin to a mix of Last Call with Carson Daly, The Pete Holmes Show, and Insomniac with Dave Attell. Sound intriguing? Of course it does.

Grace Helbig has amassed quite the following online, mostly by doing everything with an unstoppable DIY spirit and unflappable charm and she’s going to translate that to an actual talk show on TV. So, she’ll do interviews as remotes in different locations like they do on Last Call, be driving around to various places and hanging out like Insomniac, and have a sort of joyful exuberance that Pete Holmes had when he was hosting.

It will be nice to see a complete retuning of the talk show model without it being at all a parody of it.

We’ll get to see if all of these elements play out in the series premiere next month on Fri. Apr. 3rd at 10:30PM E!

E!’s Next Comedy Talk Show To Be Hosted by Grace Helbig

(via Deadline)

Chelsea Handler and Chelsea Lately have left E!, but, apparently, E! is not done with talk shows hosted by comedians. They have tapped Internet sensation Grace Helbig to host her own traditional format talk show though she’ll be ditching the traditional sound stage for real world locations.

Maybe it’ll be a more upbeat, positive PG-13 version of Insomniac with Dave Attell with celebrity guests? This Daily Grace talk show will air in primetime, for now, rather than go against the boys club in late night or tangle with daytime, which is almost entirely filled by female hosts.

With that all being said, it’s very intriguing to see that E!’s next talk show will be hosted by someone that is arguably the antithesis, tone-wise, of Handler.

Hey, Internet commenters, you did it. Your snarky, nasty, vile, unfiltered comments are now going to be the subject of a pilot that Joel McHale is developing for E!

Comedian Michael Kosta is set to host the show and guide the dissection of what exactly goes into Internet comments. If this goes to series, we can only hope that it will encourage people to start spelling correctly.

Joel McHale to Host “The Soup” Through 2016

E! has just extended Joel McHale’s contract to be the host of The Soup through 2016, which might have a little bit to do with the McHale so readily shooting down the idea of him replacing Craig Ferguson at The Late Late Show all those months ago.

With Community returning on Yahoo as well, McHale will definitely get to have fun continuing to have his cast mates on The Soup.

A Ton of Celebrities and Comedians Sing a Farewell to Chelsea Handler and Chelsea Lately

Last night was the very last episode in Chelsea Handler’s 7 year run at E! as the titular host of Chelsea Lately. To mark the occasion, she got 50 Cent, Miley Cyrus, Tim Gunn, Gwen Stefani, Dave Grohl, Melissa McCarthy, Sandra Bullock, Gerard Butler, Fergie, Jennifer Aniston, Avril Lavigne and so many other A-listers as well as so many of the comedians who have been/worked on the show including Fortune Feimster, Kurt Braunohler, Sarah Colonna, Kevin Nealon, Ian Karmel, Claire Titleman, Matt Braunger, Ron Funches, and way more to do a big farewell musical number.

It’s a touching sentiment that all these people came together and sang a song all about Chelsea Handler, but we would like to point out that around 1:27, TJ Miller is wearing the best suit ever and around 2:15, Natasha Leggero might be holding the best portrait that’s ever been held up during a farewell song.

Chelsea Handler To Not Renew Contract at E!

Chelsea Lately has had many a great comedian on, either as writer or panelist, including Greg Proops, Matt Braunger, TJ Miller, Fortune Fiemster, Jen Kirkman, Kurt Braunohler, Ryan Stout, and way more over the last several years during Chelsea Handler’s stint at E!.

However, Handler is looking to move her show elsewhere once her contract is up at E! around the end of this year, which might offer an expanded format (i.e. radio, etc.). Wherever she ends up moving, it will be a big move, especially as the only female late night host.

WGAW Expels ‘Fashion Police’ Scribe For Writing During Strike

Not only is this writer being expelled, but having a hefty fine tacked on as well for writing for Fashion Police during the show’s writers’ strike.

Don’t say that striking Fashion Police writer Eliza Skinner didn’t warn you about being a scab.

The Soup to Start Spin-off ‘The Soup Investigates’

Starting Oct. 2nd on E! at 10:30PM, The Soup hosted by Joel McHale will be followed by a companion show, also hosted by Joel McHale (sorry if some of you thought it was going to be Chris Hardwick) called The Soup Investigates featuring such good comedy folks as Michael Kosta, Sarah Tiana, Eli Olsberg, and more.

So, with this and all growing number of shows that accompany a hit show, the Emmys might have to make another category for Outstanding Variety Companion Show?

Joan Rivers Facing WGA Expulsion Hearing Over ‘Fashion Police’ Next Month

While the writers of Fashion Police are still technically on strike, little news has come for them making headway in receiving their unpaid wages. However, showrunner Joan Rivers could face expulsion and more in an upcoming WGA East hearing for violating WGA regulations regarding working on Non-WGA sanctioned shows.

Either way the hearing goes will be a precedent set for being a staff writer on certain shows.

Seasons Two and Three of Burning Love Will Air on E!

Just announced yesterday, E! will have the other two seasons of Burning Love go to air from their cult following home online.

Based off how E! did it for the first season, we’re guessing that there will be half hour episodes made from a few webisodes that will have extra never before seen footage, so even if you’ve obsessively watched the series online, there will be new stuff to see.

Only catch is that you only have to wait until fall for them to start rolling out.

Striking Fashion Police Writers Speak on Joan Rivers’ Absence of Support

The WGA West YouTube channel posted this video this morning of all the striking Fashion Police writers commenting on star of Fashion Police Joan Rivers’ complete lack of backing them in trying to get fairly compensated from E! Entertainment.

In case you were wondering and it wasn’t obvious from the video, not much that was being disputed has been resolved from almost four months ago.

So, There Was No Sabotage at The Fashion Police Writers’ Strike Benefit

Rumors that sabotage of the benefit for the Fashion Police writers currently on strike have been circulating over the past few days.

However, we attended the show last night at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood and no such hijinks occurred and it was just a packed room with a crowd that simply had a great time watching Bryan Cook, Eliza Skinner, Todd Masterson, Dante, Baron Vaughn, Bobcat Goldthwait, and more.

Though, it turns out that while it was indeed true that E! executives did purchase a majority of the tickets, pretty much no one showed up on their behalf to not laugh or whatever was planned, which means the crowd in attendance had paid individually at the door to get in.

Thus, the benefit generated much more money than originally possible that went to the writers that needed it.

Something Strange Is Going to Happen at The Fashion Police Writers Strike Benefit Show

The writers of Fashion Police, many of whom are very funny comedians featured here at The Comedy Bureau, are still on strike for unpaid wages. In solidarity of their strike, they’re holding a benefit show at The Laugh Factory, then this insane thing is apparently happening where E! is possibly throwing a wrench in the benefit.

One thing to keep in mind when you read the full story at the link:  Almost no show at The Laugh Factory is sold out days in advance, no matter who is playing there.

The Writers of ‘Fashion Police’ Have Gone on Strike, So Don’t Scab

As reported by much bigger organizations than us, the writers of Fashion Police on E! have gone on strike for not being properly compensated in the overtime they’ve been working for the cable network program. The link above is a post by Fashion Police writer and great comedian Eliza Skinner urging aspiring writers and comedians to not scab during this strike, a message we definitely support.

Writers of ‘Fashion Police’ on E!, Many of Whom Are Hilarious Comedians, File Claim Over Unpaid Wages

In case you didn’t know the likes of Eliza Skinner and Bryan Cook, they are two really funny people whose comedic exploits you should definitely be following. With that in mind, they should, as writers on E!’s Fashion Police, also get paid for many hours of overtime if they have not been properly compensated.

This is cautionary tale to all those writers/comedians/etc. going for a comedy writing job in making sure to not be taken advantage of.
