Pick of the Day: Birds. Bees. Bits (in LA) 4/29

April 15, 2024
News
christene lozano, clubhouse, ify nwadiwe, Mae Martin, mano agapion, paul scheer, rebecca drysdale, sandra daugherty

A comedy show that has a line-up of Rebecca Drysdale, Paul Scheer, Rachel Bloom, Mano Agapion, and Ify Nwadiwe, no matter what the concept is, is very much worth your hard earned money to see.

Come Monday, April 29th @ 7:30PM at The Clubhouse, this beyond stellar cast is going to discuss the eternal topic of “the birds and the bees”. Thus far, there is no real further description by Clubhouse founder Rebecca Drysdale as to what this query might entail other than sex experts Dr. Sandra Daugherty and Dr. Christene Lozano will be on hand, ostensibly, to also explore this comedic quest with “87% gay writer Rebecca Drysdale”.

In any case, some brilliant improv and some sexual revelations will be had and that should very much make you want to RSVP for a seat at Clubhousebusinesscenter@gmail.com right now.

Pick of the Day: It’s Make That Sandwich!!! 4/20 (on Clubhouse) 7/6

July 5, 2021
News
clubhouse, lindsay ames, make that sandwich

Make That Sandwich, the ingenious sandwich-building game show created by Lindsay Ames, was due for a tour before lockdown and, well… you know what happened after that.

That said, with that advent of the live drop-in audio app Clubhouse, Ames, every now and again, does a virtual version of Make That Sandwich that’s still so damn fun and absolutely worth going into Clubhouse for (or downloading it and signing up and all that jazz if you haven’t done so already).

For the uninitiated, contestants take turns adding ingredients to a sandwich until someone says MAKE! THAT! SANDWICH!, at which point, Lindsay would actually make that sandwich in real time. As it’s a virtual Clubhouse live-stream, she’ll make the sandwich still, but it’ll be a later time TBD (and then beautifully captured on IG @makethatsandwich).

So, the very next Make That Sandwich will be streaming this Tues. Jul. 6th at 4:20PM PT/7:20PM ET as a special 4/20 edition of the show. If you’re not on Clubhouse and would like to be, we do have a limited number of invites we might be able to help you out with. DM us @thecomedybureau or e-mail us at thecomedybureau@gmail.com.

Pick of the Day: Not National Public Radio (Creator First Clubhouse Pilot) 5/20

May 14, 2021
News
clubhouse, creators first, henry kaiser, lindsay ames, nnpr, npr parody

To be sure, there are plenty of experimental, niche, but oh so marvelous things on Clubhouse these days. Who knows what the addition of Android users will bring in the coming weeks?

One of the stand out weird and wonderful things is Not National Public Radio, a deft parody on the institution that is, of course, National Public Radio. Created by Henry Kaiser and Lindsay Ames, this alternate dimension version of NPR takes pitches for shows that would be the most ridiculous things on the station, but still very much in line with their brand and in all sorts of time slots.

Kaiser and Ames were selected as finalists for Clubhouse’s Creators First Pilot Season program and will be a doing special presentation of NNPR on Thurs. May 20th at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Please follow Henry and Lindsay and the NNPR club on the Clubhouse app to get notifications for this event. Tune in and enjoy and, hopefully, they’ll get a series order (or whatever Clubhouse wants to call it).

Clubhouse Institutes a “Pilot Season”; Orders Projects From Fizaa Dosani, Henry Kaiser, Jordan Rubin & More

News

(via Deadline)

Love it, hate it, confused by it, or indifferent to it, Clubhouse is undeniably a current platform to be reckoned with. Even as other equivalents are being tested at Facebook and Twitter, Clubhouse has proven to be a pretty dynamic space, especially as the pandemic hasn’t ended. There has been an explosion of all sorts of content on the audio only, convention-esque platform over the last few months, especially in regards to comedians.

So, it’s not surprising that more than a few comedians were handed more than a few thousand dollars a month to be part of a Clubhouse’s newly minted “Pilot Season” program. They’ll get to develop their show/content however they choose over three months and then be reviewed to see if they’ll get the full support of the Clubhouse app itself. Some of those chosen include Facial Recognition with Fizaa Dosani, which had been a popular LA based stand-up show and podcast as well Henry Kaiser’s NPR parody NNPR.

To the critics of Clubhouse that relegate it to just a “conference call”, it’s worth noting that all these folks got pretty clever with how to make said conference call entertaining.

Here are the rest of the comedy pilots for Clubhouse’s Pilot Season. Get the full list at Deadline.

  • “Comedy Court” by CoreyBe Sherrill, Tina Graham, and Shaina Farrow: Have you been hurt by the justice system? Slighted by law? Or even just lost an argument with yourself in a mirror? There’s only one show where you can be unfairly judged by a panel of comedians. Speakers present their wrongly dismissed cases, grievances, and disputes to a jury of comedians and improvisers for a second opinion.

  • “Facial Recognition Comedy” by Fizaa Dosani: An interactive stand-up comedy show highlighting a lineup of comedians from underrepresented demographics. Comedians bring the audience members on stage, creating an immersive and uniquely hilarious experience.

  • “NNPR: Not National Public Radio” by Henry Kaiser: A powerful public radio parody, featuring a dynamic roster of characters, hosts, and guests providing comedic programming on arts & culture in an organically fun and interactive way.
  • “Look What You Did” by Jordan Rubin: In the vein of DVD commentary tracks, filmmakers and entertainers watch and discuss one of their own films with movie-fan hosts.

  •  “The Sound of Clubhouse” by Paul Kim: An original a cappella comedy musical specifically written for Clubhouse.

  • “A Little Soapy” by Willonius Hatcher: A semi-improvised daily comedic soap opera.

Pick of the Day: Bad Trip Watch Along with Live Commentary (on Clubhouse) 4/25

April 22, 2021
News
bad trip, clubhouse, eric andre, watchalong

Bad Trip served as a bright spot when it dropped on to Netflix at the end of February with Eric Andre being, well, Eric Andre and strangers showing kindness at a time where we most of us would need to see the humanity in people again.

Also, it’s one of the more ambitious prank films to have been released in recent memory considering how much they involve real folks in their insane storyline.

With all of that in mind, Andre and director Kitao Sakurai will be doing a watch-a-long with live-commentary for their creation, Bad Trip, on Clubhouse that will offer up stories/details/behind-the-scenes that you would very likely not get anywhere else.

All you have to do to get the watch-a-long live commentary is have Clubhouse, follow Eric, Kitao, or IHEARTCOMIX on Clubhouse, and tune in at 7PM PT/10PM ET after you’ve cued Bad Trip up on Netflix. Then, let Eric and Kitao’s chaos reign for your enjoyment.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 55: Eli Green & Decentralization

News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
arclight, clubhouse, conan o'brien, crazy good fun, eli green, The amber ruffin show

Commercial/music video director and Clubhouse maven, Eli Green, joins TCB’s Jake Kroeger for a truly in-depth conversation on the nature of comedy, especially at this time, especially on Clubhouse. Green is the creator of the “Crazy Good Fun” club on Clubhouse which has spawned dozens and dozens of irreverent rooms in addition to juggling the prospect of making “fun” commercials throughout the pandemic. It’s a grand, sprawling conversation spanning trying to execute being funny for poorly thought out ad campaigns to tinkering with the very things that make comedy work. Also, “hot” takes on Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan, The Amber Ruffin Show expanding it’s staff, and ArcLight Cinemas closing.

Look into all of Eli’s work at eligreen.com and join the Crazy Good Fun on Clubhouse to see what new hijinks Green and the collective are getting into.

Pick of the Day: Sandwich Lovers Unite with Lindsay Ames (Saturdays on Clubhouse)

March 5, 2021
News
clubhouse, lindsay ames, sandwiches

Lindsay Ames wears so many hats and does so quite exquisitely. Comedy, storytelling, content creation, food, and specifically, making sandwiches.

With the advent of the latest social media platform/drop-in audio app, Clubhouse, Ames has combined lots of her hats in this weekly “room” where she celebrates one of mankind’s greatest innovations, the sandwich. Every Saturday night, Lindsay moderates a lovely room called Sandwich Lovers Unite that highlights people’s favorite sandwiches as well as figure out the perfect sandwich for very specific, often odd situations that may or may not be traditionally accompanied by a sandwich.

The passion for sandwiches ignites wonderful mutual appreciation, some heated controversy (for and against mayo specifically), and overall a great, hilarious evening for the sandwich community at large.

Follow Lindsay Ames on Clubhouse and hop in at 7PM PT/10PM ET every Saturday for Sandwich Lovers Unite.

OK, So We’re Going to Do Comedy Office Hours Weekly on Clubhouse

February 2, 2021
News
clubhouse, office hours

Last night, we attempted yet another open forum/discussion on comedy via the new app Clubhouse. It went so much better it did last year to the point that we’re enticed to do it on a weekly basis, especially since gathering in person safely to have these sorts of conversations is still far off in the future.

So, Mondays at 4PM PT/7PM ET, TCB’s own Jake Kroeger will be moderating the Comedy Office Hours room that will focus on how comedy of all kinds is/was/will be doing at such an unprecedented time as now. Hopefully, we’ll be able to solve all of comedy’s problems in just a couple hours?

FYI, Clubhouse is still invite only and only available through iOS. Those restrictions are beyond our control, but will definitely be open to all interested parties whenever those things open up.
