TCB Debriefing 9/1/23: Bottoms Goes Wide, How I Met Your Father, Titmouse/BWAS, Bridgett Everett, Poor Things

September 1, 2023
News
black women animate studios, bottoms, bridget everett, how i met your father, poor things, titmouse

1. Let 2023 be the year of Barbenheimer and Bottoms. Emma Seligman, Rachel Sennott, and Ayo Edebiri made such an astounding comedy that, between Barbie and Bottoms, The Oscars should be flipping the script and giving more nods to comedy in 2024. Celebrate that by going to see Bottoms, now in expanded release so you don’t have to be a coastal elite to go see it in a movie theater.

2. So, it looks like, we won’t get to know exactly How I Met Your Father.

3. The Titmouse Foundation, the non-profit arm of Titmouse Anmation (the studio behind the likes of Big Mouth, Digman!, and The Midnight Gospel) are partnering with Black Women Animate Studios to bolster the goal of hiring “200 diverse animation professionals by the end of 2025” (Deadline). Glad to see more folks are ignoring the conservative activist SCOTUS.

4. While you’ve enjoyed multiple seasons of Somebody Somewhere, you have might been missing on some new tunes from comedy’s cabaret icon, Bridget Everett. Fret not, a new single is coming very soon.

5. Yorgos Lanthimos, the master behind The Lobster and The Favourite, has just scored a ten minute standing ovation following the premiere of his latest work, the bizarre sci-fi-period-piece-sex comedy, Poor Things. While festivals timing their standing ovations is an almost unfathomable display of privilege, we can’t lie that the anticipation for Poor Things is somehow even higher.

6. Might be controversial here, but, perhaps, there should be no 2 drink/item minimum on Labor Day Weekend?

Take a Closer Look at Bridget Everett’s Somebody Somewhere Before the Series Premiere

January 14, 2022
News
bridget everett, hbo, jeff hiller, somebody somewhere

Somebody Somewhere, the dramedy semi-based on the life and times of the inspiring comedic force of nature that is Bridget Everett, is finally just a couple of days away from being on HBO. It’ll premiere on Sun. Jan. 16th to be exact.

It’ll follow Everett at a different time in her life, back in Kansas, before she became the brash singer and comedian she is known and loved as today, perhaps almost acting as an origin story of sorts. 2022 has yet to have a series to be the unquestioned series to binge/watch week-to-week and this might very well have the makings of that very show.

See for yourself in this featurette here, then make sure you got access to HBO/HBO Max this Sunday.

Get Your First Look at Somebody Somewhere, The Upcoming HBO Bridget Everett Comedy

News

Bridget Everett is and has been such a force of nature of comedy and song that you might ponder how she came to such a point.

Well, HBO’s latest comedy series, Somebody Somewhere, is going to give you the answer as it is very much a show based on Bridget’s life in Kansas before she is the domineering voice that she is today. Bridget’s brashness and penchant for belting out a tune might not necessarily fit nicely and neatly in the middle of the Midwest, but the show promises to show us all how she found her way, her people, and herself.

Get your very first look at Somebody Somewhere here, then look for it to begin streaming on HBO Max on Sun. Jan. 16th.

Jena Friedman (Soft Focus), one of the best dark comedians/humorists out there today, is TCB Field Report’s honored guest this week. As the pandemic has taken hold of Jena’s computer, Jena calls in on the phone with TCB’s Jake Kroeger and discusses the unfortunate luck of being right about the pandemic, some optimism about an eventual return of comedy, and some hints at what to look out for from Jena in the future when we have a vaccine. Also, they do some quick takes on being excited about the just announced Primetime Emmy nominations and Bridget Everett’s also just announced new HBO series, Somebody Somewhere.

Follow Jena @jenafriedman on Twitter. Watch Jena’s Soft Focus specials here and her last set on Conan here.

Just like the breezy rides that the series takes us through while Jerry Seinfeld and his guest hang out for the most successful version of comedians having coffee, we have coasted on to season 11 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (that’s 2 more than Seinfeld FYI).

Per usual, Jerry has stacked line-up of guests including Eddie Murphy, Melissa Villaseñor, and Martin Short and, as far as we can see, Jerry’s winning formula here will keep going as long as he wants.

See it for yourself in this season’s trailer here.

The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival returns as one of the biggest comedy touring festivals ever.

It’s interesting that they went with the bold red font for top billed acts and listed the line-up alphabetically instead of doing the traditional top-to-bottom-big-name-to-up-and-coming. It’s one way to be an oddball we suppose.

You can get your tickets here.

Dan Soder and Michelle Wolf playing broken people to just happen to sell used cars (maybe the two go hand-in-hand?) make for Comedy Central’s latest web series you should be watching, Used People.

The first three episodes are now up for you to watch on YouTube and also feature great supporting and featuring roles from Nick DiPaolo, Anthony Atamanuik, Bridget Everett, and Chris DiStefano.

After watching, perhaps you’ll feel a little more sympathy when going to a used car dealership (or maybe just feel even more wary?).

Bridget Everett Has Just Taped a Special For Comedy Central

Uncategorized
bridget everett, comedy central, comedy special, gynecological wonder

Comedy Central already has comedy specials from Kyle Kinane and Matt Braunger lined-up for 2015 making a pretty damn good start for them for their comedy specials.

Now, they’re adding on to that with a comedy special from an unstoppable force of musical comedy Bridget Everett.

Everett just taped “Gynecological Wonder”, which should blow the socks as well as many other items of clothing off anyone watching.

Hopefully, the special will come sooner to Comedy Central rather than later in 2015. We’ll let you know the premiere date as soon as we find out.
