Pick of the Day: Rape Victims Are Horny Too Album Taping (in NYC) 6/24 & 6/25

June 7, 2022
News
album taping, Dylan Adler, kelly bachman, musical comedy, nyc comedy

It’s pretty clear at this point that Kelly Bachman and Dylan Adler have carved out their place in the NYC comedy scene for their hilarity through daring vulnerability (also, you might know/have seen Dylan do a standing backflip and Kelly call out monster Harvey Weinstein to his face). They carry on the torch of truth in comedy to new frontiers, especially with the show they wrote and perform together, Rape Victims Are Horny Too.

There is no subterfuge to that title. Kelly and Dylan are both rape survivors and have, as an act of healing and holding up a beacon for other survivors to not feel alone, have written a very, very funny musical about that part of their lives. They’ve honed the show over the years and are going to put the show officially on wax with a live album taping this month. Undoubtedly, this will be a great addition to bold comedy specials cut from similar cloth including Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette and Cameron Esposito’s Rape Jokes.

There are two tapings of Rape Victims Are Horny Too at the Lower East Side’s Caveat on Fri. Jun. 24th & Sat. Jun. 25th at 9:30PM ET. Tickets are $15 and you best go get them now.

Pick of the Day: Greg Barris Deep Healing Taping (in LA) 6/11

June 6, 2022
News
album taping, deep healing, glendale, greg barris, los angeles comedy, stand up comedy
Whenever AST Records and Greg Barris are recording something, you need to go. Barris, ever clever, but always-in-tune-with-his-spirtual-side comedian/raconteur is, of course, aiming for something higher than just a new hour of stand-up.
Greg is calling this latest show DEEP HEALING and is considering it an “extreme act of audience participation”, which, for the lack of human connection we all suffered over the last two years, sounds pretty swell. Whatever Greg has up his sleeve for any and all that attend the very intimate taping at The Glendale Room this coming Saturday, June 11th at 8PM PT, we’re sure it will be transformative/leave you in stitches, only the metaphorical kind, at the same time.
Tickets are $15 right now and you better go snag them here (space is limited)

Pick of the Day: Kristal Adams Does 39ish Minutes Album Recording (in LA) 5/5

April 8, 2022
News
album taping, comedy album, glendale room, kristal adams, los angeles comedy, stand up comedy

Though sheer hard work and also being funnier and funnier every time we see her, Kristal Adams has worked her way up through the LA comedy scene. Kristal’s poise and intelligence on stage are a special charm on top of her very well-observed observations and personal comedic truths whether they be about race, jazz, or anything else in between.

Kristal will be doing a taping for her very first album, a 39ish minute performance in honor of her 39th birthday, at The Glendale Room on Thurs. May 5th. While much of LA will be hustling from Netflix Is a Joke Fest show to Netflix Is a Joke Fest show around then, you can watch this celebratory stand-up performance (that will also be a taping) from one of LA comedy’s rising stars.

There are two tapings, one at 8PM PT & the other at 10PM PT and admission is pay what you can. Go ahead and reserve a ticket anyway while you’re getting more details here.

Pick of the Day: Jen Kirkman: OK, Gen-X Album Taping (in NYC) 12/1-12/4

September 13, 2021
News
album taping, jen kirkman, stand up, union hall

Probably like the rest of you reading this, Jen Kirkman is one of the people we dearly miss seeing on stage since lockdown happened. Kirkman has consistently delivered some of our favorite hours between specials and albums over the years making for some of the most sharply observed material we’ve seen in comedy. Actually, we firmly believe Jen’s first Netflix special helped kick off Netflix’s ascent in comedy specials.

So, the prospect of being at the taping of Jen’s new hour is something we, too, firmly believe you shouldn’t miss. OK, Gen-X will be Kirkman’s new hour that will tape over four nights at Brooklyn’s own Union Hall from Wed. Dec. 1st-Sat. Dec. 4th. Tickets are only $25 and you best go get them now.

Atsuko Okatsuka (whose name we hope you’ve gotten acquainted with via Vulture’s Comedians You Should and Will Know list, her killing it on stages around town, and her recently announced development of her “woke Japanese game show” Let’s Go Atsuko) is recording a comedy album in town at Dynasty Typewriter at the end of the month.

Atsuko is definitely one of the comedians we’ve enjoyed see rise through the scene here over the years with her sharp observations, unique perspective, infectious charm.

So, please go to her album taping. Tickets are only $5 right now ($10 on day of) and you can get 7PM tickets here and 9PM tickets here.

This album recording was supposed to happen almost a year ago, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, the recordings had to be pushed to this month on Monday Apr. 20th and Apr. 27th.

Still, we’re happy that an album capturing one of the best and longest running weekly comedy shows in the country, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen, is happening all the same.

Two tapings, presented by our good friends at CleftClips, will feature, of course, the amazing duo of Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal as well as Kyle Kinane, Karen Kilgariff, Eugene Mirman, Heather Lawless, Aparna Nancherla, Eddie Pepitone, Emily Heller, Beth Stelling, Andrés du Bouchet, and John Roberts all at Hot Tub’s LA home, The Virgil.

Pretty swell, huh?

Kill Rock Stars just keeps adding to their already great comedy discography, which includes comedy albums from Hari Kondabolu, Cameron Esposito, and Kurt Braunohler.

Tickets will go on sale later this week. We’ll be sure to tell you exactly when that happens so you have a chance to not miss out on being part of Hot Tub history.

We’re not going to mince words here. Make sure you go to this if you’re in the Greater NYC area.

Aparna Nancherla is one of the funniest, most unique comedic voices right now that we’d hope you would know about. Her album taping on Jun. 2nd at Brooklyn’s Union Hall will undoubtedly be a great exhibition of how she straddles both wonder and being grounded in her comedy.

So, like we said three sentences ago, go to this.

Don’t not miss Ben’s latest hour of glorious, hysterical fury if you’re anywhere in or around the state of Colorado next month. We’ll all get a chance to hear it later, but we’re pretty sure seeing it live will be pretty unforgettable.
