March 6, 2025
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
kristal adams, nyc comedy

The wonderful Kristal Adams packed up from LA a few years ago and journeyed to the America’s other comedy mecca, NYC. Adams had definitely established herself in the scene in LA, but opted for the wealth of stage time that New York. Over the last few years, Kristal has not only risen in that scene, but built up a wondrous independent show at multi-purpose bookstore, P&T Knitwear, Bookstore, Coffee, & Podcast Studio, with Alexis Bradby, another LA to NYC transplant. This week’s TCB Field Report has a beautiful in-depth chat about how and where Adams has put so much thought into building an indie comedy show in NYC in the 2020s.

Pick of the Day: Kristal Adams Does 39ish Minutes Album Recording (in LA) 5/5

Though sheer hard work and also being funnier and funnier every time we see her, Kristal Adams has worked her way up through the LA comedy scene. Kristal’s poise and intelligence on stage are a special charm on top of her very well-observed observations and personal comedic truths whether they be about race, jazz, or anything else in between.

Kristal will be doing a taping for her very first album, a 39ish minute performance in honor of her 39th birthday, at The Glendale Room on Thurs. May 5th. While much of LA will be hustling from Netflix Is a Joke Fest show to Netflix Is a Joke Fest show around then, you can watch this celebratory stand-up performance (that will also be a taping) from one of LA comedy’s rising stars.

There are two tapings, one at 8PM PT & the other at 10PM PT and admission is pay what you can. Go ahead and reserve a ticket anyway while you’re getting more details here.

Sara Schaefer has many, many talents and skills. Lots of them are in and throughout the comedic arts, but Sara also expresses herself quite beautifully through miniatures. Her knack for crafts has led her to build several miniatures dioramas and houses that are quite detailed, especially during the pandemic.

Naturally, this was going to intersect with comedy at some point and, as such, Sara has built a to-scale replica miniature of an old school comedy club, complete with a ridiculous name “The Haha Hole” and she’s now going to host a virtual comedy show from this miniature comedy club via livestream at Nowhere Comedy Club. Joining her will be the comedy stylings of Patton Oswalt and Kristal Adams, definitely making this an event that you shouldn’t miss no matter where it’s actually happening.

An Evening at the Haha Hole is set to go live on Thurs. Jul. 22nd at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets are going for $10 and you ought to go snag ’em here.

It may be redundant to say as this show is being presented by D.O.P.E., but if you want to see a dope all black female showcase, look no further than next week’s Black Herstory at the Virgil.

With a line-up that hails from across the country (with some of our personal favorites), this evening, hosted by Charla Lauriston, will be an unforgettable night of black girl magic comedy that should be the thing you’re doing next Saturday night.

Go get your tickets right here right now.
