FX Will Premiere “The Comedians” and Season 5 of “Louie” on Apr. 9th

January 19, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

This spring, FX will see a whole hour block of series focused on the lives of comedians.

The series premiere of The Comedians with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal playing two comedians bridging generational gaps in comedy and the premiere of the fifth season of Louie will kick off Apr. 9th at 10PM.

Note that, Louie will only have 8 episodes for this latest season, which seems like the season order of a freshman show. However, The Comedians will have Mel Brooks, Jimmy Kimmel, and Rob Reiner as guest stars in their first season (via Variety).

This still makes us curious how comedies are split between FX and FXx.

We Hope More Police Stakeouts Are Like This One From Wild Horses

When police do a stakeout, a lot of waiting is involved. It’s almost too much waiting. You’d wonder what they would do after all that waiting beyond having the stereotypical existential conversations in movies and television.

Well, Wild Horses (Stephanie Allynne, Lauren Lapkus, Mary Holland, Erin Whitehead) has a pretty good idea of how to answer that query. Watch their version of a stakeout here.

Will Arnett Going From Talking Sitcom Horse to Live Action Series “Flaked” at Netflix

(via Deadline)

Looks like the business relationship of Netflix and Will Arnett is going to continue to flourish.

With Arrested Development already at Netflix and the second season of BoJack Horseman in the works, Will Arnett has scored a series order for his own live action show at the online streaming giant, “Flaked”.

It’ll follow a faux-guru, played by Arnett, living in Venice who desperately is trying to keep it together, which fits nicely in the pantheon of GOB Bluth and BoJack.

You can look for Flaked on Netflix in 2016.

Jim Gaffigan Guest Hosting “The Late Late Show” This Week

cbs, dave koechner, garry shandling, jim gaffigan, late late show, lena dunham, michael ian black, sarah silverman

This week of The Late Late Show’s interim period between Craig Ferguson and James Corden is definitely one worth checking out.

The one and only Jim Gaffigan is filling in as host for most of this week. That fact alone should make you clear out 12:35AM to watch.

On top of that, Michael Ian Black, Sarah Silverman, Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Koechner, Justin Willman, Lena Dunham, Maria Bamford, Garry Shandling, and more are all going to be guests that sit down with Gaffigan.

So, make a reminder for 12:35AM at CBS and let’s see if Jim has The Gaffigan Five worked into the show at all.

“Thrilling Adventure Hour” Fans Retrofits Antique Radio to Play Episodes of “Thrilling Adventure Hour”

A software engineer and a huge fan of The Thrilling Adventure Hour (he flies out to see all the shows at Largo) Roderick Mann has taken a classic Goldentone radio and rewired it to tune in between episodes as if they were old radio shows that you would turn the dial between.

Mann calls it Podtique and it’s almost the perfect intersection between old and new, sort of like Thrilling Adventure Hour in a way.

Currently, this was just done as a passion project, but we’ll let you know otherwise if this starts rolling out for sale.

Larry Wilmore has now casted off into the waters 11:30PM at Comedy Central with The Nightly Show. The show’s debut definitely set itself apart from The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, and The Colbert Report by having a big panel that has potential to get into the spirited back-and-forth that Tough Crowd got into, especially with the “Keep It 100” portion.

Wilmore’s opening segment was pretty sharply written bringing The Nightly Show to a solid start.

Give the first episode a watch here then make sure to tune into tonight as Kathleen Madigan, Keith Robinson, Baratunde Thurston, and Jamilah Lemieux discuss Bill Cosby.

A Better You is Matt Walsh’s 2nd film, co-written by star Brian Huskey, shows when hypnotherapy perhaps might not be the answer to your or even the hypnotherapist’s problem.

A Better You is set to go around the film festival circuit, but you can watch the trailer here.

Between nailing roles as different neurotic or anxious people a few years ago, Jesse Eisenberg has been writing a short stories focused for McSweeney’s called Bream Gives Me The Hiccups: Restaurant Reviews From A Privileged Nine-Year-Old.

Eisenberg is now adapting these into a series for Amazon Studios. This adds to the big names that Amazon has been lining up on their development slate like Woody Allen.

It would seem that this is probably going to be live action, but it could work just as well animated. Either way, Amazon needs to get to its next cycle already.

Also, take note how The Nightly Show is shaping up with a bit of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Real Time with Bill Maher mixed, but also distinctly its own unique show.

Rob Lowe, Megan Mullally, Jenna Fischer To Star In “Apocalypse Slough” Dramedy

(via Deadline)

A sub genre of apocalyptic comedies seems to be recently forming including This Is The End, The World’s End, It’s a Disaster, and the upcoming Last Man on Earth on Fox.

Now, UK’s Sky is producing a mini-series along the same lines that pits an unlikely bunch hunkered down together as a giant comet is headed for earth set to wipe out all life. NBC has agreed to air the series here in the States, which is a smart considering Rob Lowe, Megan Mullally, and Jenna Fischer are all part of the cast.

Called “Apocalypse Slough”, the mini-series is currently being touted as a dramedy, but with Lowe, Mullally, and Fischer in, we’re sure that comedy will be well represented.

Also, anyone think that there’s any significant connection between the series being set in Slough, where the UK version of The Office was set, and Jenna Fischer, who was the U.S. counterpart to Dawn in the UK version of The Office? We certainly hope so.
