Showtime Is Developing a Comedy Where Jessica Williams Will Play an Aspiring Science Fiction Writer in Brooklyn

More and more, Jessica Williams is surprising people with her post-Daily Show moves.

Sci-fi writer and Jessica Williams together in a series does have our curiosity peaked and intensely pondering what that first teaser or trailer might even look like should this project go to series.

Netflix Orders Natasha Lyonne/Leslye Headland/Amy Poehler Comedy to Series Starring Lyonne

The premise of following “a young woman named Nadia (Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City,” is something that leads to plenty of intriguing possibilities, especially since this is only one of Natasha’s party stories.

Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs Looks Unabashedly Like a Beautiful Wes Anderson Dream That Only Wes Anderson Could Come Up With

Talking animals, symmetry, stop motion animation, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban a fascinating color palate, and a premise that is very grounded in its own universe and simultaneously outlandish make for a great recipe for Wes Anderson movie.

That being said, Wes Anderson is pretty much the only person to put such ingredients together and present something that will put a smile on your face without a touch of irony.

Such is the case for his latest work, Isle of Dogs, which might be his most adorable movie to date (if that’s even possible).

See for yourself in the trailer here.

Isle of Dogs starts playing in theaters near you on Friday, March 23rd, 2018.

BoJack Horseman Renewed for Fifth Season

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that one of Netflix’s most critically acclaimed comedies (just look up how many favorable think pieces are written about it) is getting another season.

Netflix announced the renewal with this delightful .gif.

So, add another season of BoJack Horseman as something positive to look forward in the not so distant future.

Silly, absurdist sketch comedy, fantastic jazz, and an excellent example of Vaudevillian style clowning all come together here.

Sammy Miller and The Congregation might be the most fun loving jazz band around that weaves tomfoolery in between songs and Bill Irwin is a traditional clown that can show how Vaudeville can still live on.

On top of all of that, this Sunday night, September 24th at 8:30PM, engagement will take place at the lovely Old Town Music Hall, an classical revival theater in El Segundo.

Tickets are $25 and please, please get them here.

Comedy Central to Launch Podcast Network Featuring Jim Jefferies Show, The Daily Show, History of the Roast, and Up Next

Some of these have already existed, but just didn’t have the official umbrella of a Comedy Central podcast network to cover it. An analytical breakdown of roasts as well as featuring up and coming stand-up talent should be worth checking out.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see a podcast extension for This Is Not Happening, Broad City, and whatever Comedy Central’s next hit sketch series is.

The Opposition with Jordan Klepper Announces Its “Citizen Journalists” Team

As The Daily Show will be to The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, so will “the best f*cking news team” be to “Citizen Journalists”.

Next Monday, The Opposition with Jordan Klepper will make its debut with an 11:30PM return to something more satirical, Colbert-Report-ish on Comedy Central. Joining Klepper in this mission will be Tim Baltz, Laura Grey, Aaron Jackson, Josh Sharp, Kobi Libii and Niccole Thurman.

Given the show’s premise of Klepper of being “the opposition” at all costs, we’re sure his team will be used plenty in the field. We wouldn’t be surprised to seem them play heightened characters in panel debates too.

This latest edition of Franky Guttman and Michael Bilow’s Dark Matters, a Coast-to-Coast-AM-ish comedy podcast that’s always recorded live, is going where they’ve never gone before. For the 30th birthday of Bilow will be taking a polygraph test with his parents, sister, and a crystal expert in attendance as special guests.

Not so many folks would be into publicly examining their life and what has led them to this point, but we’re sure this will end up being a birthday that Michael and everyone else in the crowd will never forget.

As with all shows at The Pack Theater, it’s pay what you can. Get more details here.

Yes, there are plenty of comedians that have a plethora of infamous stories about addiction that they have worked into very funny, yet harrowing tales.

Even within that subgenre/niche, the life of Amy Dresner is captivating, heartbreaking, and damned hysterical as well. Dresner used to do stand-up that we really loved, which is where she first caught our eye. In transitioning to writing full time, we were hoping a book like My Fair Junkie would come out.

Fortunately, My Fair Junkie is out now and available in hardcover and as an audiobook. Please get it here.

It really takes a special kind of comedian to be worthy of a documentary that puts their life, both on and off stage, under the microscope.

Gilbert Gottfried is definitely one of those comedians.

The upcoming documentary Gilbert from Neil Berkeley will not only looks into the long, winding, storied career of Gottfried, but show what he’s like in between being the unmistakable voice on stage and screen. In fact, you get to hear what his real voice sounds like.

See for yourself in the trailer.

Gilbert starts playing in NYC on November 3rd and in LA on November 10th.

Rick and Morty Song ‘Terryfold’ Actually Made the Billboard Charts

A collaboration of Justin Roiland and Chaos Chaos actually got enough streams and purchased downloads with the sublime and ridiculous song “Terryfold” from a recent episode of Rick and Morty to get #33 on Billboard.

The song itself seems like a cross between Liam Lynch and Tame Impala, but more importantly it shows the reach that Rick and Morty has. Just like Last Week Tonight has been suspected of having a “John Oliver Effect”, Roiland and Harmon might be responsible for a “Rick and Morty Effect” (remember the Szechuan sauce?)

Tonight, the Emmys Will Have Jermaine Fowler as the Announcer as Well as Correspondent Behind-The-Scenes

Surely, you know that Stephen Colbert will be presiding over this evening’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony and very likely deliver as Colbert usually does in these sorts of situations.

However, you should take notice of what Jermaine Fowler, comedian and star of Superior Donuts, is up to as he will be the Emmys announcer as well as interacting, on camera, with what’s going on during the telecast. We’re not sure how that will play out, but there is the potential for Fowler to have some scene stealing moments tonight.

If you thought that the gang of Alia Shawkat, John Reynolds, Meredith Hagner, and John Early lost sight of the forest for the trees in season 1 in Search Party, season 2 has them seeing the forest and think the trees are somehow watching them, if that makes some sort of sense.

In any case, this trailer for season 2 looks even more delectable as it definitely seems like they have all dug themselves into a bigger hole.

Search Party season 2 premieres on Sunday, November 19th on TBS.
