Get a Little Misty Eyed by Watching Trailer for Robin Williams Doc “Come Inside My Mind”

It has been four years since Robin Williams, a legend not just in comedy, but entertainment as a whole, has sadly left us all when committing suicide in his home.

Robin’s career in comedy, TV, and movies was so vast that there are undoubtedly multiple generations that primarily know him from his stand-up or Good Will Hunting or Mork and Mindy, etc. In any case, he left an unmistakable mark on pop culture and was a force to be reckoned with on stage and screen.

Marina Zenovich’s upcoming documentary Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind will attempt to present the man behind the legend with interviews from the likes of Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Williams’ family, and more. From what we can tell, you might get a little choked up.

See a bit of it for yourself in the trailer, then look for Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind to premiere on HBO on Friday, July 13th.

Nick Vatterott Exquisitely Sends Up FM Rock Radio with “KROCK 90Q.BUZZ”

Absurdist extradordinaire Nick Vatterott dazzles with his latest work, a studio sketch album that sends up the sheer ridiculousness that comes with DJ’ing a rock radio station.

Though many of us only listen to music through Spotify, YouTube and have replaced the chit chat of radio station DJs with soothing voices of your favorite podcasts hosts, terrestrial FM radio, and specifically rock radio, still very much exists. They also have all the annoying trappings that have had for over twenty years.

Vatterott, along with the spot on production of Jesse Case (not the comedian Jesse Case) takes the promos, stings, songs, and even inner studio drama (that you might hear on a very real KROQ here in LA) and tweaks it oh-so-slightly and beautifully for maximum comedic effect. In many ways, it’s almost like a hilarious acid trip while turning your old school radio dial.

KROCK 90Q.BUZZ is available now and you really ought to get right here right now, right here right now.

If you want a mix of club music done up with an absurdist flair, might we suggest attending Club Comic @ The Virgil from Brooklyn’s Sam Taggart this Friday night. Sam will give you, we’re betting, the most unforgettable “club experience” you’ve ever had.

Also, special guests John Early, Naomi Ekperigin, and Mary Houlihan will be the cherries on top of the night.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at door. You can (and should) get them ahead of time here.

Samantha Bee to Get More TBS Oversight After Ivanka Trump Slur

Samantha Bee to Get More TBS Oversight After Ivanka Trump Slur

We have a bad feeling about this.

As State Farm and Autotrader.com pulled their ads from Samantha Bee’s time slot, TBS, even after the unnecessary apologizing from both Bee and themselves, feels they need to reassure advertisers that such a thing as Bee using a curse word she used all the time (without controversy we might add) won’t happen the same way again.

So, Bee will have gone from “full creative license” to the network watching her more closely. We don’t know how much of a muzzle that puts on Bee and her team at Full Frontal, but the precedent set here isn’t great.

If all of this is supposed to be making things “even-steven” between liberals and conservatives for Roseanne tweeting out what was barely a joke and horribly racist then having get her show immediately cancelled, then we can only see both sides getting more entrenched from here on out.

Still, we hope that Full Frontal with Samantha Bee will figure it out and this won’t be like when a late night host move from 12:30AM to 11:30PM and has to become, essentially, family friendly.

Del Close Marathon Will Be Moving to LA in 2019

For two decades, a literally non-stop weekend of improv comedy madness known as the Del Close Marathon has brought joy to the NYC comedy scene.

After marking a milestone by having the UCB 4 play at Carnegie Hall this year, UCB Sunset and UCB Franklin here in LA will be the home bases for DCM in 2019 and onward.

Personally, we can’t wait as that means many of the world’s best improv teams that rarely get to perform in LA will be making an annual trek here. Keep a close eye for tickets/passes going on sale.

Creator Troy Conrad gathered a heck of a line-up for this one too.

While you wonder the fate of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord in the MCU, you can enjoy what’s basically a LEGO inspired version of Star-Lord voiced by Chris Pratt in The LEGO Movie sequel.

In fact, to further the parallels between Peter Quill and Emmet Brickowski, there is a rescue mission deep in outer space resting on the shoulders Emmet (despite the odds again being stacked against him).

See for yourself in the trailer here. LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is set for theatrical release in February 2019.

Just like you, we’ll be curious to see if the gang behind the LEGO Movie franchise can live up to the magic, surprise, and wonder of the first film. If they do, don’t be surprised to see even more LEGO sequels and one-offs ordered at Warner Bros.

Chelsea Peretti Will Be in Her First Leading Role in Coming of Middle Age Comedy “Spinster”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans ought to be doubly happy now that Chelsea Peretti’s Gina Linetti get to live on at NBC and that Peretti will be starring as a lead for the first time in the upcoming film Spinster from writer Jennifer Deyell and director Andrea Dorfman.

The film will follow Peretti as a woman who gets broken up with on her 39th birthday and the aftermath follows. Assuredly, we can’t wait to see what Chelsea has up her sleeve in playing such a character.

Also, this news, we’d bet, is probably the beginning of an even higher rising tide of Chelsea Peretti, which hopefully leads to another stand-up special from her in the next year or so.

It’s already pretty exciting that the MST3K crew will be hitting the road all across the U.S.

On top of that, they’re doing so to commemorate 3 decades of beloved riffing on B-movies in space with two separate, completely different shows at almost every city that they stop in.

The frosting on top of all of that is both Joel Hodgson, the original creator and star of MST3K and Jonah Ray, who took on Hodgson’s role in the MST3K, will be riffing together, side-by-side on this nationwide The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live 30th Anniversary Tour.

The tour will kick off Oct. 9th and go through Nov. 17th at cities such as Boston, Atlanta, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland (both), Seattle, Chicago, and more.

If you’re into this at all, buy your tickets when they go on sale at AXS.com this Friday at 10AM local time.

Like any art form, stand-up comedy needs its torchbearers, practitioners that are such experts they can always show you “how it’s done”.

Jared Logan, for a long while, has been such a comedian who blends tight, concise, personal writing, delightful flourishes of the absurd, and flawless, confident delivery with ease. This is especially true of his latest hour The Twilight Door. It’s such a well crafted hour of stand-up that it flows effortlessly, (even though it’s clear great care has been taken in assembling it).

Oh yeah, Jared’s opening joke is one of the best opening jokes we’ve heard for an hour of stand-up in years.

So, we strongly urge you to get The Twilight Door fresh off the presses from AST Records here or iTunes here.

Though it’s animated (making it hard to be up-to-the-minute topical), we are curious to see if they will do any sort of riff on Samantha Bee’s Ivanka joke that she apologized for today.

In any case, here’s a teaser for what’s to come.
