While a certain amount of spookiness and fright is allowed to reign free on Halloween, the aftermath that comes when Halloween is over before you’re ready for it to be over could possibly be more scary.

Let Lindsay Ames show you what could happen when the world has gotten over Halloween the next morning and you exactly haven’t.

Melissa Leo, Sebastian Stan, Ari Graynor, Dylan Baker, Andrew Santino, Clark Duke, Jon Daly, Alfred Molina…

…Robert Forster, Cathy Moriarty, Al Madrigal, RJ Cycler, Erik Griffin, and Stephen Guarino are all set for the comedy pilot that Jim Carrey has in development over at Showtime.

With the backdrop of the 1970s Los Angeles comedy scene, it’s good to see a mix of veteran actors and actual stand-up comedians currently based in LA.

We can only hope that gets picked up, so we’ll all be able to see what Carrey and writer Dave Flebotte have up their sleeve.

NBC’s comedy subscription service, Seeso, has got a lot of people talking. As you can imagine, many folks are wondering what they’ll be in for with shows from Dan Harmon, the UCB 4, Jonah Ray, Lennon/Garant/Vilaysack, and Cameron Esposito & Rhea Butcher.

Well, for now, it’s kind of a secret (emphasis on “kind of”).

Also, Murphy said that he’ll eventually tell jokes again.

In this video from AP documenting the Mark Twain Prize for Humor ceremony at The Kennedy Center, Murphy actually cracked a joke about Bill Cosby who also happens to still have a Mark Twain Prize to his name (starts at 2:28).

Hopefully, this is the spark that gets the fire burning again for Eddie to return to stand-up.

“Going Deep with David Rees” Is Back for Its 2nd Season on The Esquire Network

Possibly one of the most entertaining educational series ever is Going Deep with David Rees. Originally on Nat Geo, it has now relocated to the Esquire Network for a second season that premieres on Nov. 11th at 10PM.

Here’s a trailer that promises more of Rees’ great, unconventional angle on learning about stuff.

To get the word out, Rees has opted to go “analog” (i.e. old school) with his social media promotion is going across the country posting flyers. Although, it would seem he’ll be documenting the whole thing and then putting videos up on YouTube as well as encouraging people to download the flyer and post it around their town. That’s why it’s called the Rolling Deep Analog Social Media Tour.

All this has the makings of another fantastic season as far as we can tell, which is why we’ll remind you to get find Esquire on your TV and tune in on Nov. 11th.

John Oliver, Last Week Tonight, and Mike Myers Risk Fines, Possibly Imprisonment for Canadian Election Segment

While most political ads that trash the opposition often seem juvenile, John Oliver and Last Week Tonight put a damning, well-documented case against incumbent Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.

Oliver chose the Canadian election, which happens today, for his main segment on Last Week Tonight last night and really pinpointed why Harper shouldn’t be in office anymore.

Apparently, doing so during an election in Canada is against Canadian law and Oliver could face a moderately hefty fine or even jail time.

Yet, John Oliver pushed on anyway and had the help of one of Canada’s biggest household names, Mike Myers.

Watch it all here.

Superego’s Matt Gourley and James Bladon Have Made Theme Songs for Non-Existent TV Shows and Are Taking Submissions For Opening Sequences

October 18, 2015
Uncategorized
contest, james bladon, matt gourley, submissions, superego, tv themes

This is almost like a DIY version of Adam Scott’s Greatest Event in Television History specials.

Matt Gourley from the beloved Superego and James Bladon have teamed up to make TV themes that sounds so much like a real TV theme of a TV show from yesteryear, you’d have a hard time believing the shows didn’t exist. Even when they have long acronyms like S.T.I.N.G.R.A.Y. or juxtapose gnomes into a sitcom, the theme songs of Stay Tuned Vol. 1 are pretty perfect.

If you so desire and have the free time and resources to do so, Gourley and Bladon are looking for submissions for opening credit sequences to go with these themes. They just might feature your submissions as well.

While it might seem like a lot of work, we have no doubt that someone’s going to come up with something great as plenty of folks did for Superego’s Stetch Maldonay contest.

Midnight on Adult Swim.

While you’re still waiting for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, something to watch in the DC Comics Universe will be the third Robot Chicken DC Comics special, premiering tonight.

Since it’s the Robot Chicken crew cracking jokes with stop motion animation, we’re almost sure that there’ll be way less controversy than Batman v. Superman has caused.

While this actual debate of Sanders vs. Trump may never happen, it’s certainly pretty great to see two of the best impressions of presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump done by James Adomian and Anthony Atamanuik, respectively.

The two character versions of Sanders and Trump got to debate head-to-head during Whiplash at UCB NY and this highlight reel is pretty much everything you’d hope it be.

To our knowledge, there isn’t a comedy album release that spans more time than with one comedian quite like The Chronicles of Federman.

30 years of a great comedian, Wayne Federman, who has smoothly adapted to the ever-changing landscape of humor are all captured in select performances in venues big and small, then remastered, and put onto this album along with liner notes from longtime Federman fan, Judd Apatow.

So, get a copy from AST Records or iTunes and have probably one of the best trips ever through comedy history all the way to comedy present, especially since its purely through the lens of Wayne Federman.

For whatever reason, when a new art form or medium gets to appear in some capacity on a late night talk show, that art form/medium gets lent a bit more credibility in the mainstream.

Certainly, Marc Maron and Chris Hardwick appearing consistently on late night has gotten podcasting more out there, but they already had a bunch of stuff going on outside of their gigantic podcasts as well.

Something like Welcome to Night Vale, which rose fast through the ranks simply as an engrossing, out-of-left-field, funny podcast making an appearance on something like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert definitely is pretty great moment for the show itself as well as podcasting as a whole.

So, knowing all that, enjoy Cecil Baldwin go through Night Vale’s Community Calendar live on Colbert.

If you’re going to use your lunch break to watch this, make sure you work at some place that’s maybe cooler with NSFW than elsewhere.

Anthony Jeselnik’s latest hour special, Thoughts and Prayers, has just arrived on Netflix. Taped in San Francisco, Jeselnik makes a point, as he always expertly does, to leave no sacred cow undesecrated.

Watch in on Netflix here.

Please Enjoy Nathan Fielder on “Late Night with Seth Meyers”

Just like his show Nathan For You, Nathan Fielder is the sly and subtle trickster that so many people have come to know and love when chatting with late night talk show hosts.

His appearance on last night’s Late Night with Seth Meyers is a perfect example as Nathan shared a “gift” as well as his “Italian fantasy vacation” with Seth.

We can only hope Fielder continues to make the rounds on talk shows during this current season of Nathan For You.

Donald Glover’s “Atlanta” Picked Up to Series at FX

(via Variety)

So, between FX and FXx, FX Networks will now have a rock and a rap comedy series.

FXx already had Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and now, as perhaps a nice compliment, Donald Glover’s dramedy that follows the lives in and around Atlanta’s rap scene, Atlanta, will go to series at FX.

As many folks on Capitol Hill often relate their lives more to Veep than House of Cards, we wonder if the rap world will similarly relate to Atlanta over Empire.

Look for Atlanta in 2016.

As you’re probably getting ready to “feel all the feels” with Pixar’s upcoming The Good Dinosaur, don’t forget that there will be a sweet, funny, touch, probably heart-wrenching short film from Pixar as well.

This short is going to be Sanjay’s Super Team and it looks like it’ll keep the streak of Pixar’s wonderful shorts going based off this clip.
