Enter Your Comedy Short Into Ryan Singer’s “Flick My Clip”

The amazing Ryan Singer has been putting together, for years now, his own personal film festival of sorts by taking submissions and then showcasing them at various other festivals.

He calls it Flick My Clip and so long as you have a comedy short that’s under 5 min., has no copyrighted music, submitted by July 7th, hasn’t been previously submitted, then you should submit. So far, Flick My Clip will run at FilmDayton Festival and The Cincinnati Film Festival.

So, UCB Is Going to Have a New Space Near Sunset Blvd. x Western Ave.

There’s a building on the north side of Sunset Blvd., less than a block East of Western Ave. that has Upright Citizen Brigade posted on it in big bold letters. We’re guessing that’s it going to be a supplementary performance space for UCB, but no official announcement has been made.

However, new businesses can try to get in on being next to this new space, whatever it is.

Maya Rudolph Is Now Joining Her Pals Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in The Nest

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler making a movie together is already exciting enough news, which makes Universal’s The Nest an already highly anticipated comedy.

Now that they’re former SNL cast mate Maya Rudolph has been added to the cast, The Nest will possibly be more fun when it’s already seeming that it will be a wire-to-wire fun movie. We wouldn’t be surprised if the cast for this will keep getting better and better.

‘The Powerpuff Girls’ to Return with New Series in 2016

Almost 10 years since it ended, The Powerpuff Girls are now set for a return to Cartoon Network. It’ll be fascinating to see what The Powerpuff Girls will be like considering how widely appealing of a cartoon it was when it first premiered back in 1998 and how Cartoon Network is much different place with Adult Swim being a major portion of the network.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2016 to find out.

John Moe’s Makes a Book Out of Pop Culture Correspondences “Dear Luke, We Need To Talk. Darth”

We posted a clip from Wits with John Moe earlier today and, if you liked that, you’ll probably like his book of letters “written” by pop culture’s biggest figures from one to the other, Dear Luke, We Need To Talk. Darth. As the title suggests, there are letters like Darth Vader writing a letter to Luke Skywalker about something important that he wants to tell him.

So, it’s like all those books of war letters, but made perfectly for the pop culture obsessed 21st century and that’s why we think you should give it a read.

Aziz Ansari Going on Modern Romance Tour Across North America Next Month

From July through October, Aziz Ansari will be stoping by throughout the U.S. and stopping by Montreal, Canada as well for his Modern Romance tour. The title isn’t a slick label for the tour, but very reflective of the material Aziz is laser focused on right now, which we’re enjoying quite a bit here in LA.

Tickets are now on sale and, hopefully, more dates will be added soon.

Stephen Hawking Will Be John Oliver’s Next Guest on Last Week Tonight

John Oliver has been on a streak with pretty much everything on Last Week Tonight. So, naturally, we can’t for tomorrow night when he’s interviewing one of the smartest people on the planet, Stephen Hawking.

It should prove to thoroughly enlightening, but like Colbert interviewing Pussy Riot via a translator, it’ll be fascinating to see how Oliver pulls this chat off.

The Summer Boys Do It will be a comedy tour by the amazing Josh Fadem and Johnny Pemberton starting tonight in Tulsa, going all month long through the middle part of the good ol’ United States, and ending in Houston on July 2nd.

There’s a good deal of folks living in that part of the country that don’t get to see the two on a regular basis and we highly suggest that you don’t miss out on Fadem and Pemberton this month.

There Will Be a Phineas and Ferb Star Wars Special

One of The Disney Channel’s most entertaining shows might just be Phineas and Ferb, which may be why they’re getting a big special episode that’s a crossover with The Star Wars universe.

Leading up to the release of Episode VII, there is sure to be more Star Wars themed everything, but, for now, we’re glad to see that on July 26th, when this premieres, there will be another Star Wars cartoon special in addition to the ones from Family Guy and Robot Chicken.

Rebel Wilson Joins Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Grimsby”

Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming spy farce Grimsby is coming together quite nicely. Already, there’s an intriguing grouping for the cast including Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe, Johnny Vegas, and Mark Strong.

Now, Rebel Wilson is joining on the ensemble, which might get to be as big as Paul Feig’s spy comedy Spy.

Cameron Crowe’s Developing a Comedy for Showtime

Cameron Crowe is indeed making his way to comedic television as he is developing a series entitled Roadies for Showtime. There’s no cast attached as of yet, but we’re sure that Crowe will get some great folks together for a comedy series about a rock tour.

Whether this ends up being a sort of Almost Famous: The Series, we’re on board.

The Onion’s Clickhole Launched Today

The clickbait parody site by The Onion known as Clickhole officially launched today and it’s as perfectly satirical as you would hope it to be. Listicles, nostalgia, personal quizzes abound there in a way with headlines that The Onion pulls off the best.

Interestingly enough, the parody of clickbait still makes us want to click, which kind of makes it clickbait, but the kind that we feel less guilted into checking out.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Grimsby’ Adds Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe, More

Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest film, currently over at Sony, has just rounded out its cast with a good handful of dramatic actors in Ian McShane, David Harewood, and Gabourey Sidibe. Johnny Vegas will balance the scales a little bit being an English comedian, but the premise behind Grimsby seems dynamic enough to have this mix.

In Grimsby, Mark Strong plays a spy on the run that has to deal with his “football hooligan” brother played by Cohen, which definitely should be a fun duo to watch along with the rest of the supporting cast.

Jerrod Carmichael Comedy To Get New Pilot At NBC

While they’ve passed on his first pilot, NBC is wisely keeping Jerrod Carmichael around for another pilot. We’re glad this is happening instead of letting him go to some other network like John Mulaney.

Hopefully, in this case, the saying will go, the second time is the charm.

Kristen Wiig will, for the first time, star, co-write, and direct her own comedy. It’s slated to be a buddy with Annie Mumolo from Bridesmaids and other than they will be best friends in over their heads, there are no other details.

With Wiig at the helm, we can surely count on this getting delightfully weird.

You Do Know That Louie Is Playing on FX and Not FXx, Right?

Since Louie’s long hiatus, FX has expanded to feature FXx, which is supposed to be a comedy channel. However, when Louie returned, it didn’t air on FXx like one might think.

It has mysteriously stayed on FX in its 4th season, despite it being a sitcom. “We” explore what forces might be at work here in a piece we wrote at Nerdist.

Will Ferrell and Chad Smith Have Now Challenged Lars Ulrich to Drum-Off

The epic drum battle between Will Ferrell and The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith is now over with Ferrell and his cowbell as the victor, but, apparently, the drum wars are not.

According to an interview in Spin (linked above), Ferrell and Smith have set aside their differences and challenged Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who somehow gets mistaken for Chad and Will, to a drum off.

Ulrich hasn’t answered the challenge yet, but we can only hope that indeed does happen just to see what else Ferrell has in his cowbell.

Pixar’s Inside Out Has People Saying It Will Change The Way People Will Think About Thinking

A recent, detailed presentation of Pixar’s upcoming film Inside Out by director Pete Docter gave a deeper look into the film and its story. Those in attendance said that the way it portrays human thoughts and emotions and how they work, which, in this case, will be played by a team of animated characters voiced by Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Mindy Kaling, might offer some valuable insight into how we think and feel in real life.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given how many people couldn’t but cry at the opening of Up.
