There’s One Last Thing Coming from The Whitest Kids U Know

September 9, 2022
News
mars, whitest kids u know

(via Variety)

The unfortunate and untimely passing of Trevor Moore last year struck the world of comedy extremely hard. Though the Whitest Kids U Know, the signature sketch group that Moore was a part of, hadn’t formally put out something in quite some time at that point, the fervor for their sketches still remained and the outpouring of grief and love for Moore and the Whitest Kids U Know definitely showed up when that moment came around.

Thankfully, such fandom will be given one last gift from the group in the form of an animated feature film satirizing billionaires trying to terraform and colonize Mars. Called Mars, the money for the film was crowdfunded and was in the works right around Trevor’s passing. Thusly, it’ll be released posthumously for Trevor and, ostensibly, be in tribute to his comedic verve. Whitest Kids U Know member Zach Cregger notes that there can’t be any WKUK without Trevor and, as such, this will very likely be the last work offered up by the beloved, boundary pushing sketch group.

A new film from The Whitest Kids U Know will not only be enticing for all the reasons mentioned above, but it’ll also be a high-concept original comedy feature at a time where we’re finding that studios are far from finished scraping the barrel of IP or only slightly reimagining well worn premises like infinite time loops or fish-out-of-water rom coms. No word on a release date as of yet, but hopefully we’ll get Mars on some type of screen early next year.

R.I.P. Trevor Moore, 1980-2021

While one beloved comedian, Bob Odenkirk, survived a heart attack this week, it unfortunately still ended with a tragic loss to the art form of comedy. Trevor Moore, most known for co-founding the seminal sketch comedy troupe, The Whitest Kids U Know, sadly passed away this weekend following a tragic accident (the details of which have not yet been released as the family and the other members of WKUK have asked for privacy at this time). He is survived by his wife Aimee Carlson and son August.

Of course, this is the time to understand why the loss of Moore is devastating with doing a deep dive on the YouTube channels of the Whitest Kids U Know and Trevor’s eponymous show on Comedy Central, The Trevor Moore Show, as well as his handful of artfully crafted, hysterical comedy albums. The superb display of abjectly absurd humor, sharp satire, and great revelry in comedic chaos in all of Moore’s work should never be forgotten or overlooked.

Personally, for us, this rang true in one specific performance by the WKUK, several years ago, when friend and contemporary Josh Fadem used to run a live comedy show out of Cinefile Video in West LA. Like so many wondrous comedy spaces in LA, it wasn’t supposed to have a comedy show. The expansive library of DVDs and narrow aisles in particular made for quite the improbable set up for live comedy. Yet, Fadem made it work for stand-ups. Having all of WKUK on “stage” (it was just the end of one of the DVD aisles) was another story. All of WKUK dived in head to all the sketches they could remember seemingly without too much of an idea how tiny of a performance area there would be. What resulted was a whirlwind of hysterical bedlam that broke the fourth wall several times, but never ceased in having us busting up as the Moore, Sam Brown, Zach Cregger, Darren Trumeter, and Timmy Williams, similar to whenever Conan O’Brien lets his show go delightfully off the rails, relished the pure fun of every moment.

So, with that in mind, remember Trevor Moore fondly and please go watch all of his work starting here and here ASAP.

Pretty much as soon as the first show was announced, An Evening with 4/5 of the Whitest Kids U Know at The Pack Theater sold out. A second show was added and also sold out shortly thereafter.

Fret not, as both performances from the cult sketch group next week will be selling standing room tickets at the door for both shows for $10.

So, make sure you get to The Pack Theater this coming Thurs., Aug. 30th well before 9PM to make sure you get in on what ought to be a damn fun night of (somewhat) controlled chaos.

This Saturday, May 19th, the audience at The Pack Theater will get to not only see The Whitest Kids U’ Know! (Zach Cregger, Sam Brown, Trevor Moore, Darren Trumeter, Timmy Williams), but will also get to sketches that they wrote that were rejected.

Sound like a great Saturday night? Of course, it does.

FYI, this is a one-time live event as far as we know.

As it’s at The Pack Theater, admission is “pay what you can”. The show starts at 9PM, but we urge you to get there and line-up early if you want in.

Get more details here.

9) It has come to the attention of the Comedy Bureau that two videos in particular on Osama Bin Laden’s death featuring the amazing Table of Galaxies (the hilarious duo of James Adomian and Whitest Kids U Know’s Trevor Moore) and Hasan Minhaj didn’t get nearly enough press (even though they’ve already been posted here) due to the political nature of the humor in them.  Interestingly enough, we have not vilified Bin Laden the same way we have Adolf Hitler.  Hitler is one of the “go to” references for evil incarnate and Bin Laden is far from that.  It’s not like when Indiana Jones met Hitler when there was no doubt that Indy is looking into the face of evil.  The annoucement of Osama Bin Laden’s death in the social networking age where “no stone goes unturned” and subsequently made fun of brought about jokes about the death of Osama Bin Laden explore the mythos behind Osama Bin Laden, even questioning whether he really died or not.  Watch the two videos below and think about it.
