Trailer for Alexander Payne’s Latest “Nebraska”

Alexander Payne is among the handful of directors that can call themselves auteurs in comedy with a pretty brilliant filmography that goes from Election to About Schmidt to Sideways and now, the highly anticipated Nebraska starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte.

Set in Nebraska, all in black and white, it has the makings of the Oscar worthy stylings of a Payne film. Watch the trailer at the link.

While there is a story of former child pageant stars grown up trying to relive their former glory, “Ass Backwards” seems to be a great vehicle for Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael (and a bunch of great co-stars in Alicia Silverstone, Bob Odenkirk, Paul Scheer, and more) to showcase just how funny they are.

If you’re wondering what the next evolution of Jackass would be if there ever was to be one, Johnny Knoxville donning his Bad Grandpa character for an entire movie is what it ended up being. With echoes of Borat and the Danish comedy Klown, Knoxville takes a kid to pull pranks, stunts, and the usual day at work for him on real people throughout the country under the loose agenda that he’s supposed to be taking the kid home.

Imagine Ken Marino has to be buddy buddy with his own actual inner demon, which is a pretty good pitch for a movie. Luckily, that got greenlit and made into a movie that is now Bad Milo.

Watch the trailer that’s also chock full of really funny people like Gillian Jacobs, Kumail Nanjiani, Erik Charles Nielsen, and more here.

Trailer for ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ Is Pretty Great/How to Do a Trailer

In a world full of trailers that spoil all the details of the movie, shows the best, funniest, most action packed moments, and basically make it so you don’t really have to see the movie comes the trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Ben Stiller’s latest work as a director.

We don’t have much of an idea of what it’s about, what will happen in the movie, or even if it lives up to its adventure-comedy-drama genre category on IMDB, but, from the trailer, we think it’s going to be grand, funny, and something we want to definitely see come Christmas time.

From the writer of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre Jerusha Hess, comes a something a little more well read, so to speak. Austenland is a romantic comedy set up in the real life fantasy land of Jane Austen romance novel. The degree in which someone would look for their Mr. Darcy with the likes of Keri Russell, Jane Seymour, and Jennifer Coolidge looks pretty fun in the trailer.

Full Trailer for Larry David’s ‘Clear History’

Larry David has been keeping his improvised HBO movie, “Clear History” kind of secret ever since it was announced not giving up too much details until now with the release of a full trailer. Though David looks vastly different for a part of the movie, it’s not surprising that he plays a character not too far off from the Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm/real life, which we’re sure there will be plenty of people happy with that.

The entire story behind David Gordon Green‘s intriguing and promising Prince Avalanche is still a little mysterious with how a literal road comedy with Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch will work.

Still, this latest trailer gives a little more of an idea of what, again, could be really great, almost like a loosely tangential sequel of Kings of Summer (which you should go see if you haven’t).

It was only a matter of time before there was an indie black and white period comedy centered around a niche style chess tournament wherein competitors and computers play the game. Yet, honestly, it made for a great, off-beat trailer of Andrew Bujalski’s ‘Computer Chess’.

Lake Bell (Children’s Hospital) has made a seemingly delightful film on the world of doing voiceover and narration, especially focused on voice over for movie trailers. Such a world can be pretty funny and great when the likes of Tig Notaro, Ken Marino, Demetri Martin, Nick Offerman, and Fred Melamed in what might be one hell of a supporting role as a father.

It’s no surprise that every blog, whether comedy focused or not, has posted the trailer for the latest season of Arrested Development coming out on Netflix on May 26th since it was uploaded last night. It’s almost like it’s old news for how many times we’ve seen in it our feed.

Still, that’s not deterring us in the slightest from posting it because 1) some of you haven’t seen it and 2) it’s a trailer for one of the funniest tv shows, once thought dead, Arrested Development. Come on!

High Road Trailer

Here’s the movie trailer I’ve been working on this week. It’s for UCB co-founder Matt Walsh’s new comedy, High Road, a totally improvised and truly independent film. The movie does not have distribution yet and is premiering on Friday as part of the Newport Beach Film Festival (come down and see it, I’ll be there). It’s a funny, charming movie, and it’s got a great cast, including James Pumphrey (who helped edit this trailer with me), Abby Elliott, Zach Woods, Lizzy Caplan, Matt L. Jones, Rob Riggle, Joe LoTruglio, Ed Helms, Rich Fulcher, Brandon Johnson, Horatio Sanz, Andy Daly, Dylan O’Brien, and Kyle Gass. What a cast, right? So please see the movie. It’s also playing next month at the Seattle Film Festival. For more info go to the movie website. The excellent music in the trailer is by the band State Bird. Go buy their stuff, it’s great.

Things are now starting to come together for High Road with this 2nd trailer, despite some sites calling it “UCB fan porn”.  With no regard to that label, I’m pretty damned hyped to see it, especially after interview writer/director Matt Walsh here.
