Please Enjoy Hampton Yount’s Unaired Conspiracy Theory Comedy Pilot “Man of Truth”

As film and TV production gets prolonged and paused and shut down, the quest for more content has led to unveiling and releasing of things that the general public would never get to see like unaired pilots, even if they were actually funny enough to warrant the public getting to see it and potentially pushing for more of it to be made.

Hampton Yount made one such pilot for SYFY called Man of Truth that put Yount position to investigate the most ridiculous conspiracy theories, but taking them as serious as any of the real ones like COINTELPRO or the Military Industrial Complex. The topic he deep dives into for the pilot if celebrity time travelers and his quest to get a hold of Matthew McConaughey is so worth a series green light by itself.

Go see the truth for yourself here.

SYFY Adds “The Summoner” From Charlie Hankin to TZGZ Animation Block

SYFY keeps beefing up its own late night animation block TZGZ (not too unlike Adult Swim is for Cartoon Network) and it seems to get more and more enticing with every new show they order. The latest addition comes from Charlie Hankin and Stoopid Buddy Studios and is called The Summoner.

We’ve followed and thoroughly enjoyed Hankin’s work for awhile now whether it be animating cartoons for The New Yorker or being one half of one of our favorite sketch duos Good Cop Great Cop. Hankin has such a great knack for finding absurdist minutia to tap for humor. This series caters to that strength perfectly as it centers on a pair of roommates, one of which is an alien that can summon any object, but never summons anything useful.

Three episodes of The Summoner are set for next year and we won’t be surprised if SYFY keeps adding even more series to TZGZ over the coming months to become an even more formidable animation block to tune into.

SYFY’s Magical Girl Friendship Squad Has Quite the Cast

Before we even get into the series’ premise, for something that was part of a late night animation block on SYFY that’s now getting upgraded into its own short-form series, it has a pretty stacked cast:

The series leads are Quinta Brunson and Anna Akana along with regulars Ana Gasteyer and Matteo Lane.

Recurring characters will be voiced by Christine Baranski, Manny Jacinto, Helen Hong, Eric Bauza, and Sarah Squirm/Sherman.

Guest voice stars will include Jason Mantzoukas, Paget Brewster, Vella Lovell, Jamie Loftus, and Patti Harrison.

Multiple characters will be voiced by Stephanie Sheh (Sailor Moon), Taylor Ortega (Kim Possible) and Daisy Hobbs ( Broadway’s Aladdin)

Pretty swell for a show that only has six 15 minutes episodes ordered, right?

With such a cast, we’re very, very intrigued to seem them in an anime comedy that has “two young women, Alex (Brunson) and Daisy (Akana), who are destined to save the Universe…as soon as they figure out how to pay their rent.”

This could raise the profile of SYFY and their late night Adult-Swim-ish animation block TZGZ where Kelsey Stephanides’ Magical Girl Friendship Squad got its start. It also could further SYFY’s reach into comedy, an area they’ve been seemingly flirting on and off with over the years whether it be with the sci-fi/pop culture series Reactor or the genre bending Happy starring a deranged Christopher Meloni.

We have no doubt that animation will be a big part of new (and old) shows and content that gets made while this pandemic continues on and, as such, we like seeing things like Magical Girl Friendship Squad be part of SYFY’s programming slate.

If you love the pinball-eque chaos of Shoot ‘Em Up or Crank, SYFY has got the next dose of crazed action comedy for you.

Look no further than the TV adaptation of Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel HAPPY! For it, SYFY has enlisted the services of Christopher Meloni to play one of his insane characters yet and the voice of Patton Oswalt to bring an endlessly positive flying cartoon horse to life (well, as alive as a hallucinatory cartoon can be).

See for yourself in the trailer.

Then, get ready for the series premiere of HAPPY! on Wednesday, December 6th on SYFY.

SyFy to Have Futurama Reruns Next Month

In November, episodes of Matt Groening’s Futurama will air on SyFy, which is a fitting home for the show.

Maybe, down the road, Futurama will once again be revived in this new home for new episodes. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if that happened as Futurama seems to continue on in some way, shape, or form.

Will Arnett to Host SyFy Presents Live From Comic-Con

We’d bet that since Conan O’Brien will also be there, pranks will happen.

SyFy is launching a live telecast from the world renowned San Diego Comic-Con and have scored Will Arnett as a host. Arnett will be bouncing around between fans, celebrities, sneak peeks, etc. over three nights starting July 21st.

Any takers on whether he’d run into more fans that would do his Arrested Development chicken dance or wear a BoJack Horseman mask?

“Reactor with David Huntsberger” Uncovers a VENGE-BOT to Avenge the Death of HitchBOT

Recently, HitchBOT, a Canadian created robot created as a social experiment hitchhiking across the globe, found its end in when destroyed by strangers in Philadelphia.

So, SyFy’s Reactor with David Huntsberger discovered that the parent of HitchBOT was, of course, a VENGE-BOT that, given its name, didn’t take too lightly to their robotic child being beaten to death.

You should also note that, unfortunately, Reactor has been cancelled and this is one of their very last sketches.

However, a robot wreaking havoc almost seems a fitting ending. Watch it here.

The day has come for David Hunstberger to premiere his new show Reactor on SyFy.

He’ll be doing a comedic breakdown of everything that falls under the purview of SyFy, so long as he can avoid being chased while doing it.

Watch the premiere of Reactor at 11:30PM tonight on SyFy.

David Huntsberger Is Getting His Own Late Night Talk/Sketch Show, “Reactor” at SyFy

As of late, there are more intersections between science and comedy. The one we think you should probably know is David Huntsberger who has plenty of material about how the brain functions, relativity, etc.

SyFy’s latest attempt at a talk show will be Reactor hosted by David Huntsberger. Like a traditional late night talk show, it’ll have guests, sketches, and air at 11:30PM, but it will specifically focus on pop culture’s run-ins with science fiction.

Last year, there was the short lived Wil Wheaton Project at SyFy that had similar aims. Hopefully, Reactor, which premieres Thurs. July 16th at 11:30PM, will go much better. Huntsberger has 12 episodes to accomplish just that.

There’s a fun announcement video at EW by David himself that details Reactor more.

There Will Be a “Archie vs. Sharknado” Comic Book

Given that it’s animated, one can only imagine if they’ll even go more over-the-top than they have in the trilogy of Sharknado movies.

SyFy and Archie Comics are indeed teaming up to have a special issue of Archie where a tornado of sharks comes through Riverdale set to come out in July written by Sharknado director himself Anthony C. Ferrante.

One can only wonder how campy the folks behind Sharknado will get in the Archie universe. Maybe one shark will eat Jughead and don his crown?

Next week, the premiere of Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda will finally arrive at SyFy, but Conan O’Brien graciously presented his one and only scene in the movie last night as well as Gary Oldman’s reaction to it after a private viewing.

All we can say is that both Conan and Oldman showcased their acting amazing talents here.

Leading up to the premiere of SyFy’s Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda on Aug. 2nd, Conan O’Brien has gone out on a full blown ad campaign via billboards, Hollywood Reporter, etc.

See Conan detail exactly the extent to which he’s promoting this film appearance as well as seeing a clip featuring the monsters from Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda.

Conan O’Brien Is In SyFy’s Latest “Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda”

Conan O’Brien and SyFy apparently have something in common in that their current status quo in entertainment isn’t enough. Conan wants to do things beyond hosting a late night talk show, which he’s done for a score of years. SyFy isn’t satisfied with just a “Shark vs. Pterodactyl” movie.

So, on Aug. 2nd at 9PM on SyFy, Conan O’Brien will be appearing in Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda with an encore presentation on Aug. 30th.

Watch the announcement, and try like Conan to keep a straight face, here.

Wil Wheaton To Host His Own Clip Show on SyFy, The Wil Wheaton Project

As all networks seem to being doing these days, SyFy is branching out a little from their brand to include some comedy. The Wil Wheaton Project will feature none other than Wil Wheaton comedically reviewing “geek culture” weekly.

It premieres Tues. May 27th at 10PM on SyFy and we’re curious how this will stack up to The Soup and Tosh.0.

We Predict That SyFy Channel’s “Sharknado” Will Be a Popular Topic For Comedy

SyFy Channel over the last few years has invested in a rebirth of sorts of the niche midnight movie subgenre (i.e. movies that are so awesomely bad that they’re good) such as Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

With that in mind, it would almost seem with SyFy’s latest creation in another apocalyptic shark movie, Sharknado, that Doug Benson’s Movie Interruption, How Did This Get Made? with Paul Scheer, almost all comedians on Twitter, and more are in cahoots with SyFy to have movies made that they can make fun of.

Basically, you can’t tell us that a movie that combines sharks and tornadoes won’t be source material for comedy in several forms.
