Comedy legend and award winning bluegrass recording artist Steve Martin is getting honored by the American Film Institute, which will be aired on TV on TNT.

Not only is this a great honor that’s well deserved for Martin, but it’s probably a great chance for us all to see a great, funny speech from Steve once more.

Steve Martin Was Awarded an Honorary Oscar Last Night

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences created the Governor’s Awards to make the Oscars telecast shorter giving Hollywood it’s own sort of private night with a presentation of just the honorary awards.

The telecast to our knowledge doesn’t seem shorter, but, that aside, we’re glad that Steve Martin got to give a long, heartfelt speech without being played off for his much deserved honorary Oscar.

A book with the likes of Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Eddie Murphy, and many many more in it definitely deserves the attention of any comedy fan, which is why Matt Hoyle’s Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People is a perfect compliment to any house/condo/efficiency apartment.

Basically, there’s a lot of hysterical people captured in beautiful images, so maybe you should check it out/buy it, not to mention that the book supports the charity Save The Children.

Comedy legend, Steve Martin, now renowned bluegrass musician, only does bits of comedy here and there. Yet, when they happen, they are pretty fantastic.

Just watch Martin be his old hysterical self on Letterman this past week.

All we say is that Steve Martin is a comedic genius and this might be enough to hold us over until Steve does anything else comedy wise for awhile.

Watch this over and over now.

As opposed to Bill Murray getting abducted on Letterman, Steve Martin greets everyone on late night sets in NYC including Letterman when he’s walking to the couch on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

1) LA Comedy invaded your TV last night:
Brent Weinbach on Lopez Tonight killin’ it.
Mo Mandel on Conan killin’ it.
Norm MacDonald gettin into a Twitter fight with Steve Martin on Letterman and killin’ it.

2) Don’t let 522 (last checked when I linked this) people down, help Garfunkel and Oates get on Conan via this Facebook page. (The Comedy Bureau doesn’t guarantee this is a way to get the girls on Conan, but it won’t hurt so just go ahead and do it)

3) Marc Maron Interview on Serial Optimist.  All Serial Optimist interviews are top notch, which makes this one an absolute read.

4) John Oliver’s NY Stand Up Show. Midnight. Comedy Central. Maria Bamford. Moshe Kasher. That’s it.  Well… don’t forget to watch it!

1) If you did not catch wind of this yesterday, please read: Study: Family History of Alcoholism Raises Risk of One-Man Show.  I mean “…Risk of One-Man Show”.  Tell me you didn’t almost bust your head on the floor laughing at that one… because it’s true.

2) Garfunkel and Oates in LA Times.  Why wouldn’t you read this?

3) EVEN MORE UPDATES to the Montreal Just for Laughs Showcase Schedule because I love all of you (…I got nothing else, you know?)

4) So…. of course you can’t take a joke? Many of us saw Jon Daly’s funny take on the incarnation that Charles Bukowski would take were he “Frankensteined” with comedy legend Bill Cosby into Bill Cosby Bukowski.  Of course, poets, as some of them like remaining on a pedestal of intellectualism, which you can hide behind on stage (I should know as I’ve done plenty of spoken word before), cannot take a joke/don’t understand the art form of comedy.

5) OK, where would you celebrate the 100th day of the Comedy Bureau? Really, I’m not sure.  Suggestions? (i.e. where would all of you folks have a drink with me)

6) Tonight’s COMEDY CRAWL-clone yourself
The Good Luck Show @ Good Luck Bar 8PM FREE
Just for Laughs Showcase @ 3 of Clubs 8PM FREE
Patrick Keane @ Irvine Improv 8PM $20/2 item min.
Comedy Death Ray @ UCB Theatre 8:30PM $5 (stand-by only at 7PM)
Hamclown 3 @ Alexandria Hotel-The Mezz (2nd Floor) 8:30PM FREE
The Walsh Brothers Show @ UCB Theatre 11PM $5

7) OPEN MIC RUN-*updated*

8) Recently: there is much excitement for the State of the Union Address at 6PM, as some people intend to play a drinking game.  Here’s a speech you don’t have to fret/worry/feel like you have to sit through so you don’t feel uninformed: Steve Martin’s Mark Twain Prize Acceptance Speech

9) Anyone taking odds on what the most overdone Oscar joke premise will be?  I feel like this would be a money making venture.
