Pick of the Day: Paul Scheer & Rob Huebel Present CRASH TEST (in LA) 7/24

July 14, 2021
News
crash test, la comedy, largo, paul scheer, rob huebel

Show by show, much of the best of LA comedy is coming back. One such thing that has set a date for its return is the anything-goes, wild ride that is Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel’s Crash Test. For years, Scheer and Huebel would take over UCB Franklin late on a weeknight to do literally anything that came to mind whether it be playing a rather aggro version of musical chairs, scrapping whole bits to talk to a justifiably fired personal assistant, or go through a “new” version of the Crash Test pledge. Also, they would fit in some stand-up from LA’s best in between whatever they chose to do.

Now, they’re coming back for their first show for 2021 and since lockdown started at Largo at the Coronet Theatre. They’ve set the date for Sat. Jul. 24th at 8:30PM PT. Tickets are $35 (plus $11 service fee). Best go get them here before they sell out.

Fans of Childrens Hospital Are Getting a Early Holiday Gift with “Medical Police” Trailer

Sure, it’s “not a spin-off” of the beloved absurdist medical procedural satire Childrens Hospital, but the spiritual successor to it, Medical Police, which features plenty of Childrens Hospital cast and creators (again, it’s “not a spin-off”) is going to give you that fix for comedy that’s so unbelievably daft, but so cleverly assembled. With Rob Huebel and Erinn Hayes as both doctors and cops, the stakes for things to go awry are even better.

Just see for yourself in the Medical Police trailer, then look for it on Netflix on Fri. Jan. 10th.

Once upon a time, Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer used to take the stage together at UCB to do something called Crash Test. It was a live show where Paul and Rob got to do whatever the hell they wanted (i.e. an aggro-version of musical chairs, accidentally talking to celebrity assistants in the crowd, going over Vin Diesel’s real FB page, etc.) in between great stand-ups. Eventually, that led to an entire comedy special that they did on a glass bus.

It has been more than couple of a years since Huebel and Scheer have dove into this wondrous chaos, but that’s all changing as they will be reprising Crash Test again at Largo Thurs. May 30th at 8:30PM. Go get your tickets now as we have no doubt that this will be something special.

“Medical Police” at Netflix Will Be a Childrens Hospital Spiritual Sequel/Reunion/Etc.

“Medical Police” at Netflix Will Be a Childrens Hospital Spiritual Sequel/Reunion/Etc.

Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern, David Wain, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, and Ken Marino once brought you the beautiful madness that was Childrens Hospital over at Adult Swim.

It looks like they’ll be up to their darkly comedic and absurdist shenanigans yet again with Netflix’s newly orderd series Medical Police, though, this time, it will be set at a children’s hospital in Brazil and include the threat of world ending virus. Also, they’ll be getting double the screen time with traditional 30 minute episodes.

So, for those holding your breath since Childrens Hospital went off the air in the hopes that it would live on somehow, you can stop (if you’re somehow still alive) because, we guess, it worked.

Trailer for Rob Huebel’s “Do You Want to See a Dead Body?” as YouTube Red Series

One of YouTube Red’s comedy series that isn’t coming from a YouTube star is Rob Huebel’s Do You Want To See a Dead Body?

Well, it’s more like Do You Want To See a Dead Body? 2.0 as it’s getting fleshed out into an entire series from two Funny or Die videos from a few years ago.

In any case, Huebel doesn’t waste the opportunity to get as ridiculous as possible with the premise of the title. See for yourself in the trailer.

Look for episodes to start streaming on YouTube Red on Wednesday, November 15th.

YouTube Red Orders New Series Starring Rob Huebel and Ryan Hansen That Involve Actors Trying to Be Detectives and Seeing Dead Bodies

YouTube’s subscription based streaming service might be on to something here. Not only do we enjoy shows that star Rob Huebel and Ryan Hansen, but we love how these two shows pair up quite nicely.

One is Do You Want To See a Dead Body? and the other is Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes. The former involves Huebel hanging out with famous friends and then, of course, showing them a dead body. The latter has Hansen as an off-kilter version himself trying to solving mysteries with detectives.

Without thinking about it too hard, it’s pretty easy to see how there could be a crossover episode as well.

If you’re on board like we are, look for Do You Want To See a Dead Body? and Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on YouTube Red this fall.

Rob Huebel Goes Through the Ridiculous Story of How He Got Permanently Banned from Yankee Stadium

As we’re finding out more and more these days, prank shows from over 10 years ago blurred the line in regards to breaking the law and what they ordered comedians to do for a prank.

Rob Huebel shared his story of how this happened to him and consequently got him permanently banned from Yankee Stadium on this week’s Desus & Mero.

It’s just as funny as it is cringe-worthy through almost every beat of it.

Making a comedy special on a bus with a live audience should come in handy here.

Crash Test partners Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel will have a brand new show thanks to Insurrection Media and Seriously.tv.

Called Drive Share, follows the rise of ridesharing through the lens of the drivers and the weird people they pick up. Perhaps a High Maintenance for Uber instead of weed?

We’ll find out later this year when it premieres digitally.

You probably already know this, but VR is coming back in a big way.

As the technology is being made more and more readily accessible to everyone with a smartphone, more and more folks are finding different ways to utilize it.

For Funny or Die, they decided to use VR in a classic good cop/bad cop scenario played out beautifully by Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer.

You can watch the 2D version here or the 3D Google Cardboard version here and enjoy being accused of a crime that you didn’t (or did?) commit.

Watch Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel Host a “Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show Show”

Many are geared up for a The Super Bowl while others are geared up for the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Us personally, we’re pretty psyched for Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel doing a ‘half time show show’ web series that’s way before the actual half time show. The Pepsi Halftime Show Show not only has Scheer and Huebel letting their trademark chaos reign, but also has, in these first two episodes, Andy Juett and Tim Kalpakis joining in on the fun.

Anyone taking odds on whether these will be funnier than any of the Super Bowl ads? We might bet that they indeed are.

Blizzard or not, you should go watch this right now.

Years ago, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel rented a giant bus and taped an entire comedy special for their live show Crash Test while driving around LA. They had anyone from Aziz Ansari to Natasha Leggero to Thomas Lennon/Robert Ben Garant to Ian Karmel and much more join them/run into them while the special was happening.

While it was only available to stream after paying for quite some time, you can now watch the whole Crash Test special over at CC.com.

So, go do that.

Crash Test, the comedy special that’s unlike any comedy special you’ve ever seen before, is finally out today on Vimeo On Demand.

Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel really did shoot the entire thing on a moving bus driving all around LA not only have live comedy on the bus, but also “run into” folks like Aubrey Plaza, Earl Sweatshirt, Thomas Lennon, Aziz Ansari, and more.

You can and should download and stream the Crash Test at Vimeo On Demand for $3.99.

In fact, they had stops that featured the likes of Aziz Ansari, Rob Corddry, Andy Daly, Ben Garant, Ian Karmel, Natasha Leggero, Tom Lennon, Jack McBrayer, Seth Morris, Aubrey Plaza, Earl Sweatshirt.

All of this was shot in a special years ago and is finally going to become available for all to bear witness to the madness they and director Lance Bangs put together.

Support Making of Dark Comedy “Cuddle Party” Starring Rob Huebel and Michaela Watkins

Dark comedy, “cuddle party”, Rob Huebel, Michaela Watkins, and executive producer Jill Soloway, should, we think, be enough incentives to not only you get on board to see Matthew Irving Epstein’s film Cuddle Party, but also see it get made.

A couple whose relationship is on the rocks opt to try out a “cuddle party” and, well, it’s a dark comedy, so something insane and hilarious will happen.

Cuddle Party is seeking $35,000 in funds for production over the next 24 days. They’re at $8,020 as of this post being written.

You can hear more about it as well as what a ‘cuddle party’ is from Epstein here and you can help via donation here.

Also, to answer your question, yes, one of the rewards for donating is getting to be part of an actual cuddle party.

The big target of Last Week Tonight was the rampant and horrifying nature of online harassment of women from doxxing to outright death and rape threats to revenge porn.

Per usual, Oliver managed to wrap it up with great jokes and a clever thing they shot, which, for this week, is an update of the original AOL ad from 2015′s perspective with the talents of Rob Huebel and Colin Hanks.

Apparently, Fox has a lot of good stuff coming to their digital side.

While Fox ADHD is up and running at FXx, a multi-platform deal with some of the folks behind Burning Love, namely Keith Quinn and Jonathan Stern along with the likes of Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Jerry Minor, Curtis Gwinn, and more involved in front of and/or behind the camera has a fine looking slate of new series.

This includes Filthy Sexy Teen$ (a parody of all those sexy teen dramas), Drive Share (a workplace comedy of rideshare drivers), Criminal Records (an out of touch rock n’ roll label tries to save rock n’ roll), and Grand Marquee (a rapper from the old school tries to keep up with the hip hop of today).

All of this will be coming to the screen on your computer/mobile devices soon.

It’s fantastic that almost the entire original cast of Wet Hot American Summer is returning to do the upcoming Netflix series.

It’s also pretty great that they’ll have some new “members” with some of indie comedy’s favorite players including Michaela Watkins, Randall Park (who you saw as Kim Jong-Un in The Interview), Lake Bell, John Slattery, Jayma Mays, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.

It would almost seem that the first poster alone for this new Wet Hot American Summer will be barely able to contain this even bigger, great ensemble cast.

IFC Renews Comedy Bang! Bang! For 40 Episodes, Birthday Boys and Orders Two New Series That Have American in The Title

IFC just unveiled its upcoming programming slate for 2015 and man, it’s a doozy.

They’ve ordered Comedy Bang! Bang! for an unprecedented 40 episodes (for perspective, most broadcast sitcoms get maybe 22 episodes for a full season order), another season of The Birthday Boys, American Storage (Rob Huebel plays a guy who lives at a storage facility by choice), an awards special from College Humor, American Documentary (a mockumentary series from Lorne Michaels), and two half-hour scripted comedies in development entitled Westside and The Bank.

Rob Huebel is set to guest star on Parks and Recreation this season, playing an aforementioned ‘super terrible dude’, which we’re sure will be great.

We can only hope that Paul Scheer who has also guest starred on the show, would somehow be on the same episode for a semi-Human Giant crossover.

Rob Huebel To Star In IFC Pilot ‘American Storage’

Believe it or not, this is not a parody of the popular reality TV series Storage Wars, which we’re sure Rob Huebel could satirize quite well in a leading roll.

Still, Huebel living in a storage unit and all the weirdness that comes with it is definitely grounds for a show we want to watch at IFC.
