Netflix Lines Up Two Louis C.K. Comedy Specials, One of Which is Debuting in April
Netflix has got specials on deck from Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Amy Schumer, Jerry Seinfeld, and now, Louis C.K. It’s almost like they’re trying do a stand-up comedy equivalent of a planetary alignment.
The first of the two specials that C.K. will be doing is simply called 2017 and was taped in, of all places that you could tape a special right now, Washington D.C. Given Louis being vocal on the POTUS having plenty of parallels to Hitler, there’s an extra layer of intrigue on top of a new C.K. special coming out. “2017″ will start streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, April 4th.
With all these gigantic comedy stars, one has to wonder where Netflix goes from here in regards to comedy specials.
Mike Birbiglia is set to serve up another hour of his masterful stand-up/storytelling on Netflix with his latest special, Thank God for Jokes.

Last Week Tonight, BoJack Horseman, and, with a renewed jolt from the election and Trump Administration, SNL winning WGA Awards seem to be expected.
However, Atlanta nabbing both honors for both Comedy Series and New Series is a really nice, big win for Donald Glover’s freshman series as well as FX, the rare basic cable network that can run with premium cable networks and streaming services when it comes to prestige programming.
FYI, their show The Americans won an award for Drama too.

For comedy, Netflix actually has two new offerings for Valentine’s Day. There’s Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special and, for those seeking something a little (or a lot more dark), there’s the original Netflix film Girlfriend’s Day.

From The Moth to Off-Broadway to touring around the country, Hasan Minhaj’s amazing Homecoming King show will be a comedy special on Netflix.
Not only does Hasan spin this particular thread of his life into a very funny tale, but it also features an interracial romance that couldn’t be more timely. There is no premiere date, but we hope that it will stream very soon at Netflix.
Bill Burr has a new stand-up special, Walk Your Way Out, coming out at the very end of this month and we don’t need to say much more than that, do we?

Netflix is actually getting a really big 10th season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (24 episodes) as well as getting exclusive rights to all of the episodes from the previous 9 seasons. The prospect of series development and two stand-up specials (and we’re sure a hefty payday) must have been too nice to pass up for Seinfeld who was sitting atop the Crackle hilltop.

We’re only in January of 2017, but it seems Netflix has taken most of the cake when it comes to the big time comedy specials. In fact, would be hard to imagine them not being to able to have and eat their cake in this scenario.
Rather than just doing an hour at a single mic, Neal Brennan’s latest comedy special, 3 Mics, opts for literal three microphones on stage at the same time. Brennan will do either one-liners, stories, or bits depending on which mic he is at.

The rundown of comedy nominees in this year’s awards season have many notable differences between the nominations for a few awards ceremonies that have been announced so far.
Still, Florence Foster Jenkins and black-ish seem to be holding consistently throughout as they just picked up multiple nominations for the 2017 SAG Awards. Host TJ Miller both co-starred Deadpool and is part of the ensemble cast of Silicon Valley, which both took home Critics Choice Awards last night. This might make TJ the biggest winner of the evening.
The Late Late Show with James Corden also continues its ascent in late night by winning over all the satirical news shows and Fallon, which is pretty astounding considering that Fallon is still a ratings leader and Sam Bee, John Oliver, and Trevor Noah got special focus because of the election.
The election also put special focus on SNL with highlighting both Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin in their respective impressions of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and resulted in their Critics Choice wins.
Meryl Streep continues her dominance with awards in general as she indeed play a historically bad singer perfectly in Florence Foster Jenkins.
Don’t forget that FX has a nice showing here as well with wins for Louie Anderson on Baskets and Donald Glover on Atlanta. It’s further proof that FX’s programming line-up can stand with the premium cable and streaming networks.
Also, we’re glad to see BoJack Horseman taking home Best Animated Series as the show continues to evolve and get more emotionally and satisfyingly complex.

Netflix Will Now Allow Downloads of Selected Programming to Watch Offline
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Master of None, and The Office are just a few of the shows that you can download to watch on a mobile device so you can finish binge watching some of your favorite shows without access to the Internet.
So, even in the most remote locations on earth, you can watch some of your favorite Netflix shows so long as you have battery life on whatever device you’re using. We wouldn’t be surprised to see that concept as part of an ad campaign.
Given the feelings in the air in America still lingering from the election and, really, this whole year, Michael Che’s new hour hits a sweet spot of being open, honest, and ‘pinpoint funny’ about all the hot button issues right now, but does so with the aim of promoting understanding and having a conversation (i.e. what a lot of people need right now).
Che goes confidently from Black Lives Matter to gun control to trans rights to Trump making the release of this special, Michael Che Matters, pretty well timed.

On top of Reggie Watts, the otherworldly comedian-musician extraordinaire doing his “normal” thing of improvising music and riffing on material that seems to space, time, and language, there is going to be a lot of other fun stuff in his latest comedy special, Spatial.

3 New Dave Chappelle Specials Coming Soon to Netflix
This means that Netflix will have two Chris Rock specials and three Dave Chappelle specials coming up soon. Chappelle gave a great taste of what’s to come from his recent SNL monologue.
Maybe, Rock and Chappelle will end up doing that tour that they was vaguely floated out there for a minute.
