NBC Cancels Community

Community made it to only five seasons of its six seasons and a movie goal before getting the axe by the peacock (why isn’t there a meme or .gif of a peacock with an axe yet?).

If you’re feeling real sore about it, you should check out Dan Harmon’s other show at Adult Swim, Rick and Morty because it’s also pretty damn great.

NBC Orders David Caspe’s “Marry Me” to Series Starring Casey Wilson

NBC has ordered their latest comedy series Marry Me from Happy Endings’ David Caspe. Casey Wilson and Ken Marino will star opposite from each other, which should make for a lot of fun as Capse and Wilson last worked together on Happy Endings and are now engaged.

Cristela Alonzo & Jerrod Carmichael Pilots Could Still Be Picked Up to Series

According to the analysis by Deadline Hollywood at the link, projects that were, originally, barely pilots by Cristela Alonzo and Jerrod Carmichael are testing pretty well and have a lot of buzz about them at ABC and NBC, respectively.

Keep your fingers crossed as you probably already have for both of these to get picked up to series soon.

In less than two weeks, Maya Rudolph will premiere her variety show special on NBC, The Maya Rudolph Show, specifically May 19th at 10PM.

There’s finally a short teaser for what we’re expect, which seems very much like an old school variety show complete with musical number, several costumes changes, and comedy throughout. Watch it here.

‘Last Comic Standing’ Editors’ Strike Ends with Union Deal

The editors of Last Comic Standing at NBC got to unionize under IATSE and the show will move forward, as far as we can tell, and still premiere on May 22nd.

WIth this deal, the strike only lasted two days, which will hopefully become more the case in future entertainment strikes.

NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’ Hit With Editors Strike

The editors of this current season of Last Comic Standing are on strike for a union contract that would include health insurance and pension benefits. There is no word on whether this will halt the premiere of the latest season.

We’re guessing that NBC would like to keep that hush hush for as long as possible. Let’s hope that matter gets resolved agreeably and many comedians who deserve the exposure get on national TV.

NBC Passes on David Koechner Variety Sketch Show

With the announcement of Maya Rudolph’s variety sketch special, you might have guessed that the David Koechner variety sketch show that NBC ordered a pilot of was unfortunately done for at NBC.

Hopefully, it can find a home elsewhere. Perhaps, it might even find that home at 11:30PM at Comedy Central that will be open next year.

NBC Starts Comedy Playground Initiative to Launch Two Series in 2015

NBC is making a bold, but great move, by looking for two new original comedy series via submissions at their brand new Comedy Playground.

There will be taking pitches that will be reviewed by a board made up of Aziz Ansari, Jason Bateman, Robert Carlock, Sean Hayes, Mindy Kaling, Jason Katims, Josh Lieb, Eva Longoria, Adam McKay, Seth Meyers, Todd Milliner, Will Packer, Amy Poehler, Craig Robinson, Maya Rudolph, Mike Schur, Adam Scott and Mike Shoemaker, then narrowed to ten projects for pilot presentations, then will greenlight two series to follow each other in an one-hour block.

We can only hope that they’ll find their next hit comedy series to follow Parks and Recreation and Community for next year.

NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’ Returns May 22

Once thought cancelled and gone forever from the auspices of NBC, Last Comic Standing is returning in exactly two months two to the peacock.

Details and contestants have yet to be announced, but we can only hope that they can find a group like they did last season with folks such as James Adomian, Tommy Johnagin, Laurie Kilmartin, Myq Kaplan, Mike DeStefano, and more.

It’s unmistakable when you hearing the opening and closing theme of Saturday Night Live and immediately upon hearing it, you harken to the legendary sketch show. However, you hardly think of the band playing that theme and what they go through.

Flavorwire gives us a “real” inside look into that world, specifically when it comes to casting a bass player for SNL. Also, give a round of applause to Aimee Mann, Andy Kindler, and DC Pierson for this wonderful bit of “behind-the-scenes”.

Parks and Recreation Renewed For 7th Season

Amidst NBC’s numerous moves to reconfigure their comedy branding over the last couple of years, we’re glad to see that Parks and Recreation is sticking around for a seventh season.

Just in case you didn’t know, Greg Daniels and Michael Schur are killing it with their sitcom track record and have been doing so for awhile now.

Barry Rothbart Joining Cast of NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Love Is Relative’

You might have caught a cameo of the very funny Barry Rothbart in The Wolf of Wall Street, but we know might just have a chance to see him on network television as he is set to star in a NBC sitcom pilot Love Is Relative.

It being a network sitcom, please note that it probably won’t be anywhere near as debaucherous as Wolf of Wall Street, but Barry will still probably be great in it.

Louis C.K. Returns to Hosting SNL Mar. 29th

The return of Louis C.K. to SNL is not only exciting to hear, but it’s timed to coincide with the return on Louie after a long hiatus this spring.

We can only wonder if there will be, like the last time he hosted, one sketch that he openly admits to not being into.

Whether it’s true or not, you can’t help but think what Dan Harmon will cook up for a Troy return.
