April 9, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, erin whitehead, improv comedy, jeremy carter, lauren lapkus, livestream, mark mcconville, mary holland, matt gourley, paul f tompkins, stephanie allynne, superego, wild horses

Alright, OK, well, well, well… two of the best improv groups in comedy history are coming together for a very, very special, exclusive virtual performance presented by the wondrous Dynasty Typewriter.

The improvised comedy powers of Wild Horses (Lauren Lapkus, Stephanie Allynne, Mary Holland, and Erin Whitehead) and Superego (Jeremy Carter, Matt Gourley, Mark McConville, and Paul F. Tompkins) that truly do represent so much of the crème de la crème of improv comedy are becoming the portmanteau of Super Horses, Wild Ego for this special night on Mon. Apr. 19th at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

No matter what platform or wherever this would be happening, this is most certainly a comedy event not to be missed. Fortunately, you’ll be able to live-stream this from the comfort of wherever you’re comfortably (hopefully) not gathering. Best of all, tickets are only $5-$10. Best go get’em here.

Pick of the Day: Wild Horses w/Naomi Ekperigin 1/16

News
dynasty typewriter, erin whitehead, improv comedy, lauren lapkus, mary holland, naomi ekperigin, stephanie allynne

Not only are Lauren Lapkus, Mary Holland, Erin Whitehead, and Stephanie Allynne are assembling virtually as one of the best improv groups that was ever formed in Wild Horses for their first live-stream of 2021, courtesy of Dynasty Typewriter, but they’re featuring one of our hands-down, all-time favorite comedians to watch, Naomi Ekperigin for this particular Jan. 2021 show.

For those unfamiliar (and we’re almost envious that you get to discover Wild Horses at this point), Lapkus, Holland, Whitehead, and Allynne check-in with each other in as good friends would at a bar or party along with their featured guest and then do their signature brilliant improv following that. Whether it be Largo, UCB, or wherever else they were playing, it was one of the improv shows we looked forward the most in the before times.

So, you best not miss your latest opportunity to catch them prance, gallop, etc. on Sat. Jan. 16th at 5PM PT/8PM ET for only $5. Get those tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Wild Horses with Special Guest Kate Moennig 12/5

News

The ballots are still being counted and no matter who wins, Thanksgiving is very likely going to still be a turkey-scented nightmare this year (maybe more so than in 2016?). Overall, November is going to be a hell of a month to get through in an already hellish 2020.

That being said, at the top of December, a very special performance of Wild Horses, one of the best improv groups in existence thanks to its brilliant, inspiring, clever, honest, and hilarious members Lauren Lapkus, Stephanie Allynne, Mary Holland, and Erin Whitehead, awaits us all. Wild Horses will be doing an exclusive live-stream show via Dynasty Typewriter that will feature very special guest, Kate Moennig (The L Word) on Sat. Dec. 5th at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

Tickets are $5-$10 and you ought to go snag some in case they sell out (Wild Horses routinely sold out all their performances in the before times, FYI). Do so here.

News
dynasty typewriter, improv comedy, lauren lapkus, long form improv, paul f tompkins

Well, October is here and it would only be appropriate if we hipped you to a spooky comedy event, especially since trick or treating and your traditional overcrowded Halloween party seems like a bad idea.

So, this coming Monday, Oct. 5th at 5PM PT/8PM ET, two of the most brilliant improvisers around, Lauren Lapkus and Paul F. Tompkins, will perform a set of long form improv as a duo that is taking on a bit of that said spooky theme for this evening is being coined as Lapkus and Tompkins of the Dead. You can and very much should snag them up here.

News
dynasty typewriter, improv, lauren lapkus, paul f tompkins

No matter if it’s in a tiny black box or a theater like Dynasty Typewriter or virtually on Zoom, a live improv show featuring the uncanny talents of Paul F. Tompkins and Lauren Lapkus is something that you should catch. Their artful tomfoolery is some of the best improv that we’ve seen amongst numerous other shows/teams/podcasts, etc. over several years (as you might know if you’re reading this).

Presented by Dynasty Typewriter, Tompkins and Lapkus will be doing an exclusive virtual two person improv show next week called Lapkus & Tompkins Sing the Blues. Tickets are only $5-$10 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Wild Horses 5/29

News
erin whitehead, improv comedy, lauren lapkus, mary holland, stephanie allynne, virtual improv

It pretty much goes without saying that Mary Holland, Lauren Lapkus, Erin Whitehead, and Stephanie Allynne comprise one of the best improv groups in the country with Wild Horses. Maintaining residencies at both Largo and UCB here in LA as well as doing one-offs whenever their individually busy tours would allow, the long form improv experience of Wild Horses, often done as “The Perspective” (long form improv done after a check-in with all of the team and a guest), was so high in demand leaving their shows often sold out well in advance.

Now that UCB is picking up their live-stream schedule, Wild Horses rides again, albeit virtually, for your enjoyment during quarantine. Tune in Fri. May 29th at 7PM PT/10pM ET at UCB’s YouTube channel for FREE to catch this special live-stream performance.

ASSSSCAT, the marquee show for the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres across the country, is returning to do their signature long form improv show via a YouTube live-stream over four different shows this weekend for four separate worthy charities.

No matter where or when ASSSSCAT was happening, it was always sold out back when it happened in person. For this special charity, live-stream edition, you will have to get your chance to see UCB’s best without having worry about buying tickets weeks in advance or standing hours in a line. Also, it’s heartening to see ASSSSCAT is back after the closures of UCB Hell’s Kitchen and the NYC training center.

The teams, as you can see below, makes for a star studded affair. All of the founding UCB 4 (Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts)  are slated to perform throughout the four shows in addition to Bobby Moynihan, Ego Nwodim, D’Arcy Carden, Lauren Lapkus, Carl Tart, Seth Morris, Andy Daly, Lennon Parham, Jessica St. Clair, Sean Conroy, Eugene Cordero, Anthony Atamanuik, Jon Gabrus, John Gemberling, and so much more.

The four shows happening on Fri. May 1st & Sat. May 2nd will be dedicated to raising funds for Frontline Responders Fund, Project C.U.R.E., NYC Mayor’s Fund: Food For Heroes, and LA COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

By the way, they’re all scheduled out so you’ll be able to watch them all. Tune in May 1st & May 2nd at both 5PM PT/8PM ET & 8PM PT/11PM ET on UCB’s YouTube channel here.

Between Two Ferns: The Movie Trailer Is Here

Well, Zach Galifianakis and Scott Aukerman are taking Between Two Ferns out of the studio with a crew (that happens to feature Lauren Lapkus) that we actually get to see along with their two ferns across America (plus a plethora of A-list cameos including Matthew McConaughey, Brie Larson, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chrissy Teigen). What was just a Funny or Die sketch has turned into one of the Internet’s most enduring web series and now, a major motion picture (that won’t be in theaters?).

In fact, given that every episode of Between Two Ferns has technically been a bottle episode (an episode of a series that takes place with minimal sets, cast, effects, locations, etc. mainly for budgetary reasons), would this be the “anti-bottle episode” with how much more outlandish everything is in this movie adaptation?

See for yourself in the trailer, then look for Between Two Ferns: The Movie on Netflix on Fri., Sept. 20th.

Whether it be their own podcast or guesting on dozens upon dozens of others, Scott Aukerman, Paul F. Tompkins, and Lauren Lapkus are some of the most beloved figures in podcasting and have been for quite some time.

It only makes sense, especially because they improvise so well together too, that they come together as a sort of comedy podcast supergroup. Thus, their new show Threedom, available exclusively on Stitcher Premium, has arrived.

On Threedom, they flow in and out of free flowing stories and conversations into improvised scenes, giving them an endless canvas to do as they please. The trio speak more on that and podcasting in general in this Wrap interview.

They’re only on their second episode so far, but you can get a free month of Stitcher Premium to listen to Threedom and several other premium audio comedy content with the promo code: THREEDOM.

Stephanie Allynne’s particular brand of dark comedy is great because of a certain grounded reality that it operates in. This way, the humor seems even a bit darker, in a good way of course.

You can see for yourself in Stephanie’s latest short, The Fun Company, which you could think of as a sort of slightly more sinister version of Don’t Think Twice from the point of Mike Birbiglia’s character Miles.

Watch “The Earliest Show” Where Ben Schwartz Goes Through the Five Stages of Grief as a Morning Talk Show Co-Host Next to a Very Chipper Lauren Lapkus

Watching Ben Schwartz go through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance in the setting of a blissfully aloof morning show with the uber-cheerful Lauren Lapkus is a performance worthy of some awards attention.

Branded content (Cap’n Crunch is prominently featured) doesn’t get much more out there and, at the same time, better than this.

Funny or Die’s The Earliest Show Has Ben Schwartz and Lauren Lapkus Deal with a Talk Show Gone Off the Rails

TJ Miller has been noted to make morning talk shows go off the rails.

Funny or Die’s faux version of an early morning talk show might just be somehow even more chaotic.

Ben Schwartz and Lauren Lapkus co-host The Earliest Show on Funny or Die that has all the trappings of your stereotypical, cheery talk show that’s on at 6AM. However, there’s a dark undertone that Schwarz and Lapkus deal with that makes this a little more absurdly serious than your average talk show parody.

There are two episodes released right now, but there are more coming each week.
