Before getting gigs at faux/parody talk show Comedy Bang! Bang!, then real talk show The Late Late Show with James Corden, Reggie Watts has toured pretty much non-stop since the late 90s,

Reggie chats about all of that and more (including getting into Pitch Perfect 2) as well as clinks drinks with Paul F. Tompkins on the latest episode of Speakeasy.

James Corden Pretty Much Dedicates Last Night’s “Late Late Show” To David Letterman

Though James Corden is embarking on a whole summer without David Letterman as a lead-in, he is thankful that he’s gotten to follow Dave at all.

Thus, pretty much the whole of last night’s Late Late Show, which followed The Late Show with David Letterman finale, was in dedication to Dave.

From a duet, kind of, with Sting in front of The Ed Sullivan Theater to Corden’s introduction to Letterman (since they don’t have The Late Show in the UK) to…

Wandering into a stranger’s house went so well. So, why not?

James Corden and The Late Late Show want to top all the celebrities that make appearances or perform at several high profile bar and bat mitzvahs. On last night’s episode, he announced that he was taking submissions for anyone that wanted James, Reggie, and the rest of the Late Late Show crew to play their coming-of-age party.

If nothing else, we’ll get to hear James and Reggie’s take on some traditional Jewish music, which should be pretty great.

James Corden Plays Matchmaker For Complete Strangers

Corden really played his genuine card as a late night host really well here.

The latest venture of James Corden the new Late Late Show is trying to make a love connection between two complete strangers. It’s a simple enough concept, but Corden’s curiosity, charm, and sincerity make this segment more than just an episode of Blind Date.

Watch how he pairs the two, then sets up the date, and ties a lovely bow on the whole remote.

“Comedy Bang! Bang!” Gets Ready to Say Goodbye to Reggie Watts as He Is Bringing His Signature Goofs and Musical Genius to “The Late Late Show”

Thus far, Reggie is staying Reggie over at CBS.

In the middle of this fourth season of Comedy Bang! Bang! at IFC, Reggie Watts stepped down as bandleader and Scott Aukerman’s sidekick in order to take on his current gig as bandleader at The Late Late Show with James Corden. His final Comedy Bang! Bang! episodes are coming up and a farewell video or sorts was made to commemorate him in, of course, absurdist CBB style.

As you can see from what was supposed to be a remote segment about the NBA Playoffs on last night’s Late Late Show as well as his 4/20 song, Reggie is settling into his network gig just fine.

In fact, seeing how he and his band Karen have done over the last couple of weeks, they have the potential to be the greatest band in late night if they keep headed in the direction their headed.

4:20PM turned into a whole day on 4/20, which has lead to this Reggie Watts original “4/20″.

The Late Late Show gave a nod to 4/20 yesterday by having Karen bandleader Reggie Watts dedicate a tune to all those toking around the world.

That’s mostly what he was singing about anyway. It’s 4/20, so it could be all over the place and still be on point, right?

James Corden Pulls Out The Stops For Beverly Blvd. Traffic and People Camping Out For Sneakers

James Corden has gone where no late night host has gone before in stopping traffic on LA’s very busy Beverly Blvd. and a line of sneakerheads waiting for a shoe release.

So far on this week of The Late Late Show with James Corden, they’ve already had two clever remotes.

One of them has Corden rallying up an entire production of Grease to be performed in costume in the crosswalk while midday traffic is stopped. The other has James getting in with some of the folks camping out to be the first to get a new pair of limited edition Jordans, then flipping the script on them with some unexpected trivia.

Anywhere in the vicinity of CBS Television City will probably be part of some Late Late Show bit over the next year.

We’re pretty sure it’s now safe to say that James Corden has had a successful launch to being the host of The Late Late Show.

With only two weeks under his belt as a late night talk show host in America, Corden has curried enough favor to be tapped to host The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards on June 1st.

If James keeps all of this up, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him get a shot at hosting bigger and bigger awards shows down the road.

The Late Late Show having Reggie Watts closing out the show with a song, made up or not, would be a more than welcome regular segment.

Last night, Reggie got to showcase a little more of how The Late Late Show could utilize him by doing a song that’s full of “Reggie-isms”, let’s say, like “You are a tattoo.”

If this keeps going, this will make for a pretty fun montage or, as the Internet says, supercut.

For how supremely talented and mastered Reggie Watts is, we can’t even imagine all the ways that he could potentially be utilized as the bandleader and a sidekick for The Late Late Show with James Corden.

So far, Reggie asking a question, seemingly off the top of his head, to guests is a great start.

Just check this latest query he posed to Will Ferrell.

At the beginning of the year, we reported that the very funny Sean O’Connor and Ian Karmel were brought on board to write for the new Late Late Show hosted by James Corden.

As their premiere is less than a month away, they’ve filled the rest of their writing staff.

So, the writers of The Late Late Show with James Corden are:

Mike Gibbons who is the co-creator of Tosh.0
Sean O’Connor
Ian Karmel
James Davis who recently appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly
Lauren Greenberg
Ben Hoffman from The Ben Show
David Dineen-Porter (host of Party of Four podcast)
Nedaa Sweiss
DJ Javerbaum from The Daily Show

So, this bunch makes for a good, wide mix along with Corden and Reggie Watts that has us even more enticed for their debut.

Craig Ferguson To Star In ABC Comedy Pilot “King of 7B” and Probably Forego Hosting a Show Soon

There has been more than plenty of speculation as to what Craig Ferguson was going to do post Late Late Show at CBS. For awhile, there was talk of him hosting a primetime syndicated talk show, which ended up falling through during negotiations with individual stations. Some have even tossed his hat in the ring for stepping in for Jon Stewart when he leaves The Daily Show.

Well, much of that chatter can now be quieted, for now at least, as Craig will be starring in the the ABC comedy pilot “King of 7B”. It’s a single camera comedy that follows Craig as an agoraphobic who tries to overcome his fear for love, possibly.

It’s only a pilot, so there’s the chance that he might end up doing something else later this year, but you can place a pretty safe bet it won’t be hosting a talk show that airs nightly.

March is just around the corner, which means The Late Late Show with James Corden is almost set to premiere. In the meantime, the interim period of The Late Late Show is still in effect and, this week, they have very intriguing guests hosts in Thomas Lennon, Lauren Graham and Will Arnett.

Lennon is scheduled for Mon-Wed., Graham on Thurs., and Arnett for Fri.

In addition to their hijinks, Weird Al Yankovic, Natasha Leggero, Nick Kroll, Matthew Perry, Tom Papa, Jimmy Kimmel, John Krasinski, and David Cross are all set to be guests this week too.

Take note that Lennon has voiced Craig Ferguson’s robot skeleton sidekick Geoffrey Peterson at The Late Late Show from time to time and perhaps he’ll do it again.

Find out what happens (two weeks ago, they had the Super Bowl Sharks on) by tuning in to CBS at 12:35AM all week long.

On top of that, Michael Ian Black, Sarah Silverman, Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Koechner, Justin Willman, Lena Dunham, Maria Bamford, Garry Shandling, and more are all going to be guests that sit down with Gaffigan.

So, make a reminder for 12:35AM at CBS and let’s see if Jim has The Gaffigan Five worked into the show at all.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Won’t Premiere Until Sept. 8th

“Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will debut on Sept. 8, CBS announces. Colbert’s comment below: pic.twitter.com/IPJX0xBD2a

— Dave Itzkoff (@ditzkoff)

January 12, 2015

So, one of the very final dates in the beginning of this new era of late night is set. Sept. 8th, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on CBS at 11:30PM (via @ditzkoff).

You read that right. We all have to wait nine months until Colbert resumes his role as a host on the legendary Late Show. As he has said himself, "I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby.“

That’s a long time, especially considering what’s going to be happening in the meantime.

For one, David Letterman is signing off from The Late Show on May 20th.

James Corden, who will be following Colbert with The Late Late Show, starts his hosting duties several months earlier on Mar. 23rd.

…and…

Larry Wilmore will be starting next week on Jan. 19th with The Nightly Show at Comedy Central.

…then…

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returns for its second season Feb 8th at HBO.

…then…

Grace Helbig will be headlining her own talk show on E! ostensibly replacing Chelsea Handler starting in April, though it will air in primetime.

…then…

Conan O’Brien will tape a week of episodes at Comic Con this summer, which should be one of the most fun things to happen this year in late night.

The only other thing that is going to happen in the late night realm after Colbert takes over in the latter part of 2015 is the aforementioned Chelsea Handler doing a talk show on Netflix in 2016.

All of this is in addition to Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and Jon Stewart, continuing to build their late night empires both live on TV and online.

So, with all of those dates set, that leaves four months at CBS where 11:30PM is vacant. Apparently, there will be reruns (via THR) playing in that slot during that time leading in Corden. All other late night programs will be more than happy to play against reruns at 11:30PM at CBS.

What interests us is what exactly will Colbert be up to in these nine months. The format for his tenure at The Late Show is set to be much more traditional than The Colbert Report, which, we think, wouldn’t necessarily need nine months of pre-production and retooling.

Is there something else that Colbert is up to for most of this year? Maybe it’s just some well deserved time off?

Either way, we definitely want 2015 to go way faster now.

Craig Ferguson Syndicated Talk Show Seems Like It Won’t Be Happening After All

Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

Before leaving The Late Late Show, Craig Ferguson had been lining up his next talk show gig that would put him at 7PM via syndicated talk show through Tribune Media.

It turns out that that have been too many obstacles getting in the way of making that happen, more specifically certain stations not going with proposed agreements for the show.

Hopefully, Craig will get on to another talk show soon or, at the very least, make a show out of him and Geoff Peterson walking the earth and solving crimes, a thing he often said he would be doing after his CBS exit.

Now that we’re into the interim period of The Late Late Show between Ferguson and Corden, it would seem that there are going to be a lot more comedians doing sets on the show over the coming weeks.

We’re definitely happy about that.

Already, Lachlan Patterson has done a set this week. Now, you can enjoy the delightful Esther Povitsky who notched in a set on The Late Late Show last night.

This week has seen a lot of exciting developments for the upcoming Late Late Show with James Corden. The veteran producing team is set to perform and the amazing Reggie Watts is going to by Corden’s side as bandleader.

Additionally, the writing staff, so far, will have Sean O’Connor whose written at at Sports Show with Norm MacDonald, The ESPYs, and MTV Video Music Awards and Ian Karmel whose written at Chelsea Lately at its table. Both are also pretty damn funny stand-up comedians. With those two and probably more fine comedy folks to be announced, Corden’s era of The Late Late Show looks is going to have a nice kickoff.
