The Joel McHale You First Met at “The Soup” Might Be Coming Back with “The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale” at Netflix

For several seasons, Joel McHale was dissecting pop culture at the helm of The Soup on E!

Now, he’ll get to do a very similar thing in Netflix’s new weekly topical series The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale described as such, “The weekly half-hour series takes a sharp, absurdist look at pop culture and news from across the globe, in a fast distillation of everything people are talking about that week. It will feature celebrity guests, comedy sketches, and, of course, video clips from TV, sports, politics, celebrity culture, and every nook and cranny of the internet.”

Also, Paul Feig will be executive producing, which does have us curious how the show might possibly look and feel (we’re going to guess decidedly different than The Soup, especially from this “reveal” of their set).

They’ll definitely have to do something to stand out from a crowded topical comedy show field (Last Week Tonight, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Desus & Mero, The Daily Show, The Opposition, The Rundown with Robin Thede, etc. etc.)

The Cast of Netflix’s National Lampoon Biopic Now Has Seth Green, Thomas Lennon, Jon Daly, Will Forte, Joel McHale, Matt Walsh, John Gemberling, Domnhall Gleeson, Martin Mull, and Natasha Lyonne

Oh yeah, David Wain is also directing.

Netflix is adapting Josh Karp’s book A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever into a full length feature biopic, which is already enticing by itself.

The ensemble cast that has been assembled has been kind of a dream team with the aforementioned Green, Lennon, Daly, Forte, McHale, Walsh, Gemberling, Gleeson, and Mull along with Natasha Lyonne being the latest to sign on.

With Wain at the helm, A Futile and Stupid Gesture is as buzzworthy as it can get before production has even started.

Mark Hamill, Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Bill Hader, Joel McHale, and Jerry Seinfeld Might Guest Star in New MST3K

The likeliness that this will happen beyond MST3K creator Joel Hodgson getting interest from the names above probably will be greater if you donate in the final 30 hours of their Kickstarter campaign.

On top of the amazing cast and guest writers that Hodgson has announced, Joel has played what will is, we’re guessing, his final card before the Kickstarter campaign to revive Mystery Science Theater 3000 finishes.

Indeed, Jack Black, Mark Hamill, Neil Patrick Harris, Bill Hader, Joel McHale, and Jerry Seinfeld have expressed interest and Joel has even called out to the likes of Amy Poehler, Amy Schumer, Lily Tomlin, and Tina Fey to come on the show if they’d like.

We’ll all have a better picture of what the status of the guest star list will be for MST3K when the Kickstarter ends. By the way, they have reached their 9 episode goal and are shooting for their final stretch goal of $5.5 million. As of this post, they’re at $4,524,412 with less than a day and half to go.

Help them reach 12 full episodes here.

Joel McHale Says Season 6 Was The Last Season of “Community”; Sony and Yahoo Say They’re Still in Discussions

However, there still seems to be hope for a movie.

Community star Joel McHale said that Yahoo couldn’t afford another season of Community with all of the cast’s rates going up since the beginning of the series. However, Yahoo and Sony, in response to McHale’s comments, are apparently still talking about what might be next.

Still, McHale, series creator Dan Harmon along with these open discussions between Yahoo and Sony point towards the goal of #sixseasonsandamovie coming to fruition.

It Would Seem That The Fate of “Community” Comes Down To Whether Everyone Wants To Come Back

As of right now, there is no official word on whether there will be a 7th season of Community on Yahoo.

Yet, based off of Joel McHale’s appearance on Conan this week and the positive response that the season 6 finale seems to be getting, the door seems open to doing a movie or more episodes of Community so long as the cast and Dan Harmon want to get moving on either one.

They are so close to accomplishing #sixseasonsandamovie, but it would be hard to think of them doing a movie just for a hashtag.

Joel McHale To Host The Next ESPYs

We’re guessing that McHale will feel a little more comfortable doing roast jokes of professional athletes than having to do roast jokes about journalists and politicians, then follow President Obama in front of some of the world’s most powerful people.

The ESPYs are returning in July and they have gotten Joel McHale to come aboard for host the night’s festivities. You’ll get to see it broadcast live on ABC, which will undoubtedly will make for some memorable moments, both planned and unplanned.

The ESPYs have only had Samuel L. Jackson return as host, but we’ll all see if McHale pulls off a hosting job that will have him back on July 15th.

You’ve enjoyed Nick Kroll in many a different costume on Kroll Show, but now you get to see him probably as grounded as he’ll get as someone who loses everything almost instantly in Adult Beginners.

The Duplass Brothers produced this movie from a story written by Kroll himself, which boasts a cast of of Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, and Joel McHale. So, that along with a bit of Skeleton Twins vibe has got our attention.

You can watch the trailer here and look for Adult Beginners in theaters and VOD on Apr. 24th.

Hey, Internet commenters, you did it. Your snarky, nasty, vile, unfiltered comments are now going to be the subject of a pilot that Joel McHale is developing for E!

Comedian Michael Kosta is set to host the show and guide the dissection of what exactly goes into Internet comments. If this goes to series, we can only hope that it will encourage people to start spelling correctly.

(via Deadline)

E! has just extended Joel McHale’s contract to be the host of The Soup through 2016, which might have a little bit to do with the McHale so readily shooting down the idea of him replacing Craig Ferguson at The Late Late Show all those months ago.

With Community returning on Yahoo as well, McHale will definitely get to have fun continuing to have his cast mates on The Soup.

Joel McHale Doing a Bit on Billy On The Street Turns Into a Roast Off

Last night, Joel McHale participated in a bit called the Mo’Lympics, a metaphorical obstacle course through the career of film and TV star Mo’Nique on an episode of Billy On The Street.

For whatever reason, McHale vs. the Mo’Nique obstacle course turned into McHale vs. Billy Eichner in a thoroughly entertaining verbal match the likes of which should be in a roast of either one of them.

Watch it here.

Joel McHale to Host the 2014 White House Correspondents Dinner

Following a line-up of years previous of Jay Leno, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien, The White House Correspondents Association is branching out past late night after a few years and going with primetime TV’s own Joel McHale who can be seen before 11PM on The Soup and Community.

It would be fun if McHale brought a bunch of clips a la The Soup to his night as host of the WHC Dinner.

The Soup to Start Spin-off ‘The Soup Investigates’

Starting Oct. 2nd on E! at 10:30PM, The Soup hosted by Joel McHale will be followed by a companion show, also hosted by Joel McHale (sorry if some of you thought it was going to be Chris Hardwick) called The Soup Investigates featuring such good comedy folks as Michael Kosta, Sarah Tiana, Eli Olsberg, and more.

So, with this and all growing number of shows that accompany a hit show, the Emmys might have to make another category for Outstanding Variety Companion Show?
