Though they’ll have to do it virtually, the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area is doing their annual comedy fundraiser, their sixth one in fact, in order to support the access they provide to those immigrating to the U.S.

In order to go big for this very special virtual version of their big time fundraiser, they’ve assembled a gala worthy line-up that includes Margaret Cho, Bassem Youssef, Naomi Ekperigin, and host Francesca Fiorentini.

As if this wasn’t enough to get you to chip in for a great stand-up show for a critical cause, there’s even a VIP option to have a “VIP Wine Tasting” with wine from Duckhorn Vineyards that would be delivered to your door (have to have your orders in by today, Apr. 28th).

So, this IIBA’s Sixth Annual Comedy Night for Immigrant Rights goes live at Thurs. May 13th at 7PM PT/10PM ET. Tickets are $40-$125 (even and tax-deductible). Get more info/tickets here.

As you may well know, Wisconsin is a major swing state. As such, there are plenty of big fundraisers that are going towards making sure it swings left.

One of them, Laughing All the Way to the White House, will be one of the biggest comedy live-stream fundraisers that we’ve seen yet. Slated for this Tue. Oc.t 20th at 6PM PT/8PM CT/9PM ET, the live-stream will feature the likes of: Sarah Silverman, Sarah Cooper, Seth MacFarlane, Kumail Nanjiani, Mike Birbiglia, Hasan Minhaj, Lewis Black, Bassem Youssef, Chelsea Peretti, Whitney Cummings, Judd Apatow, Roy Wood Jr, Maria Bamford, Harry Shearer, Bradley Whitford, Sklar Brothers, Mandy Patinkin, Ahmed Ahmed, Cristela Alonzo, Greg Proops, Jackie Kashian, Will Forte, Ben Gleib, and more.

That’s a line-up worth catching in support of almost any cause. Taking Wisconsin back for the left just happens to be a really great cause to boot.

As No, You Shut Up! is no more, Fusion is going to fill its slot for its current events/politically charged comedy with a brand new show from “Egypt’s Jon Stewart”, Bassem Youssef.

Called Democracy Handbook, Youssef will learn about what America has done with the ‘grand experiment’ of democracy by going out and talking to people at on the street, Trump rallies, gun shows, and more.

Get a taste of it with this trailer here, then look for the premiere in July.

Bassem Youssef Will Be “Learning” About American Democracy in New Fusion Series “Democracy Handbook”

While Jon Stewart is just appearing on shows here and there for now, the “Jon Stewart of Egypt” is getting his own show.

Announced during the live edition of No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins at Riot LA, Dr. Bassem Youssef who hosted Egypt’s satirical news show Al-Bernameg (often compared to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) is being brought over stateside for his very own show by Fusion.

The idea for Democracy Handbook is that the attempts for democracy in The Middle East have not really gone that well and Youssef is coming to America to learn how to do democracy “right” since our version of democracy is running “just fine” with “no hiccups whatsoever”.

So, we’re on board for this and are standing by for a premiere date.

Help Finish Documentary About Bassem Youssef “Tickling Giants”

Oft referred to as the Egyptian Jon Stewart, Bassem Youssef hosted a hit satirical news show in Egypt called Al Bernameg. However, as free speech seems to be more limited over there than it is here, Youssef ran into problems when poking fun at those in power.

A documentary is being made about his trials and tribulations in trying to pull off what he pulled off called Tickling Giants. They’re looking to crowdfund $150,000 on Indiegogo by Mar. 10th. As of this post, they have raised $47,827.

If you donate $20, you’ll get a digital download of the movie, but, in general, any amount donated to this project is definitely going to a good cause for both comedy and free speech.
