Adult Swim Orders Another Mr. Neighbor’s House Special

Adult Swim Orders Another Mr. Neighbor’s House Special

If ever there were a darkest-timeline-doppelganger to a Mr. Rogers type, it’d be Brian Huskey as Mr. Neighbor.

We loved the original Mr. Neighbor’s House special by Huskey, Jason Mantzoukas, and Jesse Falcon that was released two years ago on Adult Swim. We’re sure that Huskey and company will up the ante, but, given the times that we live in, we’re sure it’ll seem slightly less otherworldly than when the first special came out.

In any case, we’ll be looking forward to Mr Neighbor’s next uber-trippy adventure set to premiere on June 24th on Adult Swim.

“Joe Pera Talks With You” Premieres Tonight and Should Be the Only Thing You’re Watching/Doing When It’s On

So often, shows claim to be “unlike anything you’ve seen before”, but Joe Pera Talks With You really does lives up to such a description. The kindness and innocent mischief of Pera has gotten to evolve into a “quasi-how-to show” that gets delightfully subverted by a narrative thread from Joe’s one-of-a-kind, weird, yet sweet sense of humor. It’s almost as if Mr. Rogers had a younger, stranger, but funnier brother. Again, it’s sincerely unlike anything else on TV.

Joe Pera Talks With You is simulteanously one of Adult Swim’s most wholesome shows (it’s almost entirely family friendly) and one of its best in recent memory.

With all of that said, Joe Pera Talks With You premieres tonight at midnight on Adult Swim.

Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law Is Being Revived at Adult Swim

The original voice cast of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law is on board and the one and only Stephen Colbert will voice the villain who just happens to be a self-obsessed billionaire President.

With this announcement, you almost wonder why Harvey Birdman, stopped in the first place over ten years ago? If this goes well, we wouldn’t be surprised if Adult Swim brought back some version of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.

Look for the new Harvey Birdman to premiere in Fall.

The homespun charm of Joe Pera is so genuine and undeniable and has subsequently led him to having his own TV show at Adult Swim.

Joe Pera Talks With You will feature said charm as Joe explains and illustrates topics near and dear to him. Of course, as with everything that Pera does, there’s something fun and slightly absurd always beneath the surface.

You can see for yourself with the trailer and his appearance on last night’s Late Night with Seth Meyers (Joe explains why he cast a LNSM cameraman for his show)

Joe Pera Talks With You premieres on Adult Swim, Sun., May 20th at 12:15AM.

Adult Swim Orders a Three Busy Debras Pilot

With an assist from Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite production company, Mitra Jouhari, Sandy Honig, and Alyssa Stonoha, otherwise known as the absurdist comedy troupe Three Busy Debras, will be making a pilot for Adult Swim.

You might remember that Three Busy Debras successfully did a Kickstarter in order to play Carnegie Hall, which only makes us wonder what they will do if they get their own TV show. We can only hope that Adult Swim picks up this pilot to series in order to find out.

Joe Pera has long been a purveyor of quiet whimsy and subtle absurdity surprising us at every careful turn for years now. That’s why we’re excited that he has his own show coming out at Adult Swim on May 20th at midnight called Joe Pera Talk With You.

We could give you a brief synopsis of the show here like we would normally do, but, as with all things Joe Pera, it’s best to just let it beautifully unfold without any idea of what’s coming.

Adult Swim Will Be Thowing an LA Music and Comedy Festival This Fall

For awhile, we had Riot LA. Every now and again, we have Festival Supreme.

However, big time festivals featuring comedy in Los Angeles are had to come by. Adult Swim, fortunately, will be giving it a go by throwing a music and comedy festival at the Row DTLA this fall.

So far, a line-up has yet to be announced, but you can count on Run The Jewels being there. So, maybe, just maybe, you can forgive the delay on a new season of Rick and Morty if you’re in and around LA?

Get more details here.

You Can Now Watch “Soft Focus with Jena Friedman” at AdultSwim.com and Marvel at Jena’s Viciously Funny Satirical Special

You Can Now Watch “Soft Focus with Jena Friedman” at AdultSwim.com and Marvel at Jena’s Viciously Funny Satirical Special

There are great echoes of the field pieces of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in this special, which shouldn’t come as a surprise as Jena used to produce said field pieces there.

What is amazing about Soft Focus is how Jena is so calm in her delivery the entire time (as if she has ice running through her veins), maximizing the awkwardness and absurdity of the interviews she set up. From that calmness, there comes an almost tangible, metaphorical twisting-of-the-knife in her conversations with real folks (that might need a bit of a metaphorical knife twisting to be honest). No matter how dark it gets, we still find ourselves laughing heartily.

So, please watch Soft Focus with Jena Friedman, which, we hope, will become a show itself very soon.

Premieres Tonight: Soft Focus with Jena Friedman, Eric Andre Does Paris, a New Season of Last Week Tonight, and The Joel McHale Show

February 18, 2018
Uncategorized
adult swim, eric andre show, hbo, late night, netflix

Yes, there are a least four premieres you should be watching tonight that have nothing to do with the Winter Olympics.

Specifically, you should be checking out:

The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale (series premiere)-Now streaming on Netflix
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (return/season premiere)-11PM on HBO
Soft Focus with Jena Friedman (special)-12AM on Adult Swim
Eric Andre Does Paris (special)-12:15AM on Adult Swim

Nothing overlaps and all four shows will be comedically dealing with the times we’re living in wildly different approaches. That will range from thoughtful, but sharp interviews by Jena Friedman, in-depth deep dives by Oliver and his team, McHale making fun of the news that the rest of late night isn’t making fun of, and, of course, Eric Andre bugging people on the streets of Paris, France.

“Soft Focus with Jena Friedman” and “Eric Andre Does Paris” Specials to Premiere on Adult Swim on Feb. 18th

Accomplished and darkly hilarious multi-hyphenate Jena Friedman is getting to do a “human interest” comedy special at and Eric Andre returns to Adult Swim next month.

We hope that you’d know Jena from her great last special/album “American C*nt” or her plethora of work that includes Letterman, The Daily Show, and so much more. If you do, you’d probably know that this special will very likely be as sharp and biting as anything satirical on television.

Odds are that you’ve seen Eric Andre (or at least a .GIF of him) destroying one of his many desks on The Eric Andre Show. Essentially, Eric will do what he’s been doing in the U.S. on his show, but in Paris, France

So, don’t miss them.

Soft Focus with Jena Friedman will premiere at Midnight Feb. 18th followed by Eric Andre Does Paris at 12:15AM.

The trope of overly maudlin melodramas on Lifetime is getting the Adult Swim treatment by way of the waitress and Artemis from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia playing a combative mother and daughter.

We love how it’s being billed as an “Lifetime movie made for Adult Swim”, which perhaps means that Lifetime is getting a better sense of humor about itself?

See for yourself in this promo and preview clip.

Mother, May I Dance With Mary Jane’s Fist? premieres Sun. Jan. 7th at midnight on Adult Swim.

Rick & Morty Scores Highest Ratings in Adult Swim History and Is Now TV’s #1 Comedy

Finally, something in this godforsaken year is going right.

“Sunday’s Season 3 finale drew a 3.9/821 in adults 18-24 and a 3.2/1521 in adults 18-34 in Live+ same day, and was the most-watched telecast of the day across cable with adults 18-24, 18-34 and 18-49, according to Adult Swim and Nielsen.”

Keep in mind that this is especially impressive given Rick & Morty’s late night time slot that’s on a network that uses a limited time slot on another TV network.

One can only hope that this will be where a tide could possibly turn toward making more quality, original series rather than reboots, revivals, etc.

Rick and Morty Song ‘Terryfold’ Actually Made the Billboard Charts

A collaboration of Justin Roiland and Chaos Chaos actually got enough streams and purchased downloads with the sublime and ridiculous song “Terryfold” from a recent episode of Rick and Morty to get #33 on Billboard.

The song itself seems like a cross between Liam Lynch and Tame Impala, but more importantly it shows the reach that Rick and Morty has. Just like Last Week Tonight has been suspected of having a “John Oliver Effect”, Roiland and Harmon might be responsible for a “Rick and Morty Effect” (remember the Szechuan sauce?)

In case you weren’t aware, Rick and Morty had its humble beginnings from a beautiful thing called Channel 101.

Channel 101 is the indie TV institution created by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab that still runs to this day with its own self-sustaining creative community. It’s also the place where Harmon met his Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland.

Get more of that story in this first part of an Adult Swim behind-the-scenes series that explains how the brilliant hit, Rick and Morty came to be.

Then, watch the episode’s writer Jessica Gao, Kumail Nanjiani, and Brandon Johnson talk it out with Sam Jay on the latest Ricking Morty.

On top of that, here’s an inside look that went into what designing “Pickle Rick”, the rats, and more.

By the way, has anyone made a connection that “Pickle Rick” is literally about getting out of a pickle (other than the woman who points that out at the end of this Ricking Morty)?

An integral part of the premiere episode of Rick and Morty season 3, as you might know, is McDonalds promotional Szechuan Sauce.

We can only imagine what other multinational companies will bend to the will of Rick and Morty season 3.

We shall see as the season premiere is tonight at 11:30PM on Adult Swim.

Season 9 of the stop motion animated series will take on Mad Max, Westworld, and even Homestar Runner. On top of that, Seth Green and co. will be dedicating a whole special that sends up the hit zombie drama, Walking Dead.

Sounds pretty fun, right?

Both will be coming soon to Adult Swim, but, until then you can watch trailers for both here and here respectively.

There is no official release date yet, but, if it comes out before or during this year’s holiday season, we’re guessing it’ll be one of the more popular gifts that people will be buying up.
