John Cleese Talks About The Dark Humor He Had With His Mother and Needing To Be Funny on Conan

November 21, 2015

conan, john cleese, monty python, so anyway...

The legendary John Cleese stopped by Conan to promote his memoir So Anyway… and gave us insight to the formative years of John Cleese and why he is funny the way he is.

Specifically, he felt that being funny was a necessity for him at one point in his life as well as dealing with his rather morose mother and making her laugh.

You’ll see why Cleese went the way he did in Monty Python.

Edgar Wright to Find Comedy in the Animated Shadows for Dreamworks Animation

November 21, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Wrap)

Given Edgar Wright’s canon of Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The World’s End, etc., we’re confident that his first swing at animation could very well be a home run.

Dreamworks Animation has been working on a film that centered around the nature of shadows and have recently brought on Wright to direct and co-write along with UK comedian and Little Britain’s David Walliams to bring a whole new angle to the project.

So far, the only other thing we know about this film is that it’ll be called “Me & My Shadow”.

No other details have been given as of yet, but from this being a Dreamworks project with Wright on board, we’d venture a guess as something adjacent to Inside Out, focusing on shadows obviously, but with the Edgar Wright panache. We’ll probably have to wait awhile to see if we’re right for this being both being animated and under wraps.

Nathan Fielder Makes a Sound Proof Box For Children that Allows Parents to Have Sex in a Hotel

At this point, it’s not about if or how Nathan Fielder will top his last “business solution”/prank on Nathan For You. Every plan that he has is almost its own work of art to be admired along with copious amounts of laughter exclusive from any other. In a manner of speaking, they’re all beautifully funny and trying to compare one to the other is a fool’s errand.

Just watch his latest “hotel sex box” plan that allows parents to get it on while staying with their kids in a hotel room and you’ll understand what we’re getting at.

Oh yeah, you should know that this might be NSFW as it features heavily pixelated, rough sex.

Chris Gethard Is Starting an Anonymous Call-In Podcast

A Chris Gethard confessional?

After getting his public access show put on actual cable television, Chris Gethard isn’t taking much time off. He’s got his next comedy experiment ready to go in an one-hour completely anonymous call-in anything goes podcast, Beautiful/Anonymous.

He’s allowing any and all, so long as they don’t reveal their identity or clues to their identity if Chris is familiar with them, to talk about whatever they want to talk about for an exactly an hour. Callers are allowed to hang up earlier if they so choose, but Chris will hang up at the one hour mark no matter where they’re at in the conversation.

We have no doubt that this might go off the rails in the best way possible.

Gethard is planning to take calls starting on Mon. Nov. 23rd at 10AM EST/7AM PST. The number to call isn’t posted yet, but will be right before they go live on this post.

Watch Jacqueline Novak as the Latest Stand-Up on “The Late Late Show with James Corden”

As you might be aware of, stand-up across the landscape of late night has become scarce over the last couple of years.

Knowing that, it’s encouraging to see it pop up wherever it pops up and even more so when someone like NYC’s Jacqueline Novak is the one that gets to take the mic and perform.

Such was the case this week when the Jacqueline got to do a set on The Late Late Show with James Corden, which has only featured a handful of stand-ups at this point.

Watch her set here.

There has been Dinner with Friends with Brett Gelman and Friends and Dinner with Family with Brett Gelman and Brett Gelman’s Family and now, according to Brett Gelman’s instagram, the very next dinner that Brett looks to be setting up will go a little broader than his last two dinner specials as he’ll be dining with America.

What we’re assuming is called Dinner with America with Brett Gelman and America (or maybe Dinner with American with Brett Gelman and Americans) is apparently set to premiere sometime in spring 2016.

This should give you ample time to prepare and catch up on the last two.

We don’t know what Kevin Nealon Jay Pharoah, and more were up to during the ceremony, but it seems like they were there honoring Eddie in their own particular way.

We’ll definitely be curious to see if Eddie’s acceptance speech goes a little more into some bits/material/etc.

Just watch these latest promos and you’ll be right there with us, itching for the premiere.

Comedy Central Orders “Corporate” Pilot from Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman, and Pat Bishop

Oh, we don’t know all the details, but really hope this goes to series soon because we suspect Matt, Jake, and Pat have something incredibly dark, but damn funny cooking.

Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman, and Pat Bishop have all made their way through the LA comedy scene doing stand-up and making various very funny sketches videos as Women Comedy, under their own names, etc.

Now, they’ve got their own pilot called Corporate, which will delve into the underbelly of the corporate world in a richly dark, satiric manner over at Comedy Central.

We can’t for sure, but perhaps it might be something a little like this fantastic Women sketch that Pat and Jake made awhile back.

Of the many comedic talents of Jon Benjamin is known for, singing or playing instruments or doing anything musically aren’t any of them.

However, that didn’t stop Benjamin from making a jazz album with actual, very accomplished jazz musicians playing along side him or, as some musicians might say, “carry his ass”.

Coming this Fri., Nov. 27th, off of Sub Pop Records, Benjamin will releasing an experimental record of him attempting an entire jazz album entitled “Jon Benjamin-Jazz Daredevil: Well, I Should Have…* (*learned to play piano).

Let Jon himself tell you more about the project and, most importantly, why he’s doing it.

If you’re a fan of avant garde jazz and experimental comedy, like we are, you can pre-order this record from Sub Pop right now.

We’re going to venture a guess that both the MST3K loyal and newcomers to Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be pleased with this news.

As the Kickstarter to bring back MST3K has already reached its initial goal and speeds towards its stretch goals, creator Joel Hodgson has announced the folks that will being playing the roles of Mad, Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo as well go into some detail over the dynamics of this new iteration of MST3K.

Earlier today, Joel sent the update out that Felicia Day will be playing Mad (specifically Kinga Forrester, the daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester), Hampton Yount will be filling the role of Crow T. Robot, and Baron Vaughn will be the next Tom Servo.

With Jonah Ray as the host, this almost rounds out a pretty swell cast, but, there seems to be a new role for an evil henchmen waiting to be announced.

Based off of who he got so far, we’re sure Joel has got someone great lined up for that role and that’s all the more reason that the Kickstarter should raise as much as it can to make as much new MST3K as possible.
